Did Lazarus walk out of the tumb, or did he "float" out?

There were two miracles that happened here, don't miss either of them.


John 11:44 And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. And Jesus said, Loose him, and let him go.

Uh, nobody said that both legs were wrapped tightly together, bound in one weave. Ever heard of separate arms, and legs, each wrapped entirely? Ever heard of a single, loosely attached shroud across the entire body, bound by a chord around the waist, under the arms and around the knees? We're not talking about a toe-sack. We're talking about two ways that a body can be wrapped for burial, depending on the situation and timing. Lazarus did not die a criminal, who's body was hastily tied up and bound as Jimmy Hoffa, the missing mafia leader. Most likely, Mary and Martha didn't take the time and awesome preparation for their brother because they were also believing that since they had sent word to JESUS that Lazarus was near death, that they had no need of going through the motions of a complete King Tut style body wrap. After all, it was NO secret that JESUS healed and rose people from the dead. Mary and Martha's house was one of the places that entertained JESUS and His apostles. Even when Lazarus breathed his very last breath, hope was still on their minds. However, Jesus did not appear immediately before or after the death. As was the custom, the body usually was washed, and very pungent spices and ointments were used to mask the decay. But, again..JESUS had been contacted and was surely on the way. After all, another funeral procession had been in progress before and JESUS stopped it and a little boy's body arose in His presence. Finally, out of a sense of pride and duty, the family prepared the body, wrapped it gently, and put it in a cool tomb. Hebrew tradition says that the spirit of a person stays around the body for 3 days. We know that JESUS broke that tradition. On the 4th day, JESUS finally appeared coming down the path towards the house. Yes, the body of Lazarus was in the tomb for 4 days and even his sisters told JESUS that his body 'stinks". We're also not talking about body preservation here. The first century custom was to wrap a body, let it rot for a year or so..go back and gather the bleached white bones, free and clear of body hair and skin..and put the bones in a coveted box...very much like the bones of Joseph were carried out of Egypt in a box to be buried in the Promised Land. Hebrews did not try to preserve dead bodies in the Egyptian style mummy scenarios we are familiar with. No...Lazarus did not mysteriously FLOAT out of the opening of the tomb. He came froth on his own two feet, barely shrouded.

It depends on what type of tomb that a poor man were buried in. They had tombs that they has dug a hole in the ground and had a large flat stone covering it; and so Lazarus could of had raised up in a sitting position. The walk in tombs most likely were for the kings or people of higher stature. During the days of them wandering in foreign's lands, they had put their dead into small little coffins and carried the bones of their dead relatives in them until they were in the land that God has promised them; and so that then they can buried the dead in their rightful place that they own. Some tomb were in caves that had many other tombs within the cave and had a large boulder placed in front of the entrance of the cave.


Genesis 50:25 And Joseph made the Israelites swear an oath and said, “God will surely come to your aid, and then you must carry my bones up from this place.”

Exodus 13:19 Moses took the bones of Joseph with him because Joseph had made the Israelites swear an oath. He had said, “God will surely come to your aid, and then you must carry my bones up with you from this place.”

Joshua 24:32 And Joseph’s bones, which the Israelites had brought up from Egypt, were buried at Shechem in the tract of land that Jacob bought for a hundred pieces of silver from the sons of Hamor, the father of Shechem. This became the inheritance of Joseph’s descendants.

2 Samuel 21:14 They buried the bones of Saul and his son Jonathan in the tomb of Saul’s father Kish, at Zela in Benjamin, and did everything the king commanded. After that, God answered prayer in behalf of the land.

Matthew 23:27 “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of the bones of the dead and everything unclean.

Matthew 23:29 “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You build tombs for the prophets and decorate the graves of the righteous.

Matthew 27:52 and the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life.

Luke 23:53 Then he took it down, wrapped it in linen cloth and placed it in a tomb cut in the rock, one in which no one had yet been laid.

Matthew 28:2 There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it.

This is not a parable, or any story, it is a fact to point out to us that in Christ there is no death, there is no sting of the grave, but victory that will never end. It is eternal life that doesn't look for any rapture, or soul sleep of the dead.

Perhaps he hopped like a bunny. He certainly could have seen light through the face cloth, so he could probably see light coming through the doorway.

Every Word of His Word is important. It’s also important to extract Its true meaning.


Proverbs 2:6 For the Lord giveth wisdom: Out of His mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.


Don't ever forget this, "For the Lord giveth wisdom:", you must seek it first, then the Lord giveth wisdom. The mouth of the Lord is the words written in His Word, the Bible, from cover to cover. Pay attention to the condition God has set for getting the wisdom, and that it is you that must seek the truth. Just as that gold miner sought his wealth, you must focus on the knowledge written to gain the understanding of the subject being taught. The entire Word of God comes from [YHVH] Father's mouth, through the Prophets, Apostles, and by the Lord Jesus Christ. You must seek to study to find the truth.
