Did the APA DSM-5 really declare Pedophilia an orientation?

How is taking advantage of and violating a child an orientation..... It is not the same thing as homosexuality because that is between two consenting adults

Yeah they don't call the abusing of children in that way an orientation.
They call it a disorder.

I originally saw this article in my newsfeed and became troubled by the headline.

But then something told me to dig deeper.
There had to be something more to this.

After surfing the Internet I found a simple explanation.

The APA DSM-5 is trying to draw a distinction between inclinations, and behavior.

Pedophilia in the DSM-5 is a disorder if it's actually acted upon.
It's an orientation if it's not acted upon.

I think our initial fear when we hear the word "orientation" applied to Pedophilia, is that somehow that will become normalized like the LGBT sinful lifestyle.

The APA DSM-5 doesn't appear to be going that far.
It's just that their hair splitting has aroused fears.
Very justified fears.

Sadly some groups that actually advocate for pedophilia are latching onto the distinction. One of those groups is B4U-ACT. You can read more about that in the link below.

So yes, the APA DSM-5 does appear to label it an orientation, but it's still considered a disorder. That's the other half of the story some of the hysterical news outlets and blogs are not telling you.

Orientation just means direction/focus. It is a VERY negative orientation to have but it is an orientation nonetheless.
The classification only really looks diabolical when I think of it like a question on an application form but in psychological terms, orientations can be both positive and ordinary or very negative and disturbing. For instance, a healthy, stable, well regulated sex drive is seen as a positive attribute, a 'good' (subjective term for humans) orientation to have. Whereas the mentioned orientation is very negative. A disorder of sorts.

A killer for instance, may have a sexual orientation rooted in intense violence and therefore sex itself as an act will come secondary to that violence. His sexual drive will thrive on viplence rather than sex. In the same way that my sexual orientation towards women precedes the actual act of sex itself.

The act itself would not happen without the drive that directs it and that direction is my orientation.

I am new to this forum but I think you are missing one big difference between the two groups. With pedophilia, one side of this party is underage and in some extreme cases with severe minors, cannot make the decision on their own to participate in the act. A 7 year old has no way of saying yes or no to something like that because they don't understand what is going on.

The group of LGBT are adults. They make their own decisions based off of what they want. I am not saying that it is right or wrong but they choose to participate in the activity of their own free will. Children do not have that choice. Even if this does become a true (by definition only) sexual orientation, it will by no means make it legal.

You know Stilly - I've pointed out this "goal" of the homosexual community before. Usually It was dismissed as merely my opinion and non-factual. So, for those with ANY doubts about the ~homosexual agenda~, read this:

Repeal of ALL LAWS governing the age of sexual consent.

i think i may be the only one so far who has connected LGBT and the APA-pedophile thing.
having specifically said for the purpose of showing how advocacy by "experts" (APA) changes the culture.
that what they are on record as having accomplished for one (among many) groups...they are able to do with any (i.e: pedophilia), merely by making declarations about orientation etc.
