I don't know, I guess what I am trying to get out is that, I don't think it is a good idea to blindly accept ideas intill you study the history behind them. I also think it is a bad thing to have differing opinions in Christianity because we are all brothers And sisters in Christ. So the I think the right thing to do would be for all churches to follow the same doctrine as the apostles of Christ followed which were not the same as what some churches use today.

If only it were that easy brother.

That would be a huge mistake. The jews had history on their side, and they crucified Christ. Better to turn to the only thing which can be proven, and that is the word of God

I would agree. But how do we find out what the apostles believed?

from history?
From people over us who tell us they have it right, and everyone else is wrong?
From pastors, teachers, priests, bishops whoever, who say they know the truth, blindly listen to them?

or from the word of God (which is what they did in the first century church)

The Popeye spinach verse!

Now these were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of the mind, examining the Scriptures daily, whether these things were so.
(Act 17:11)

amen, they did not just blindly follow them. They investigated what they said with the word of God before they would trust them..

which is not what most churches do today, in fact if you did it, you would offend them, most would ask you to leave for even questioning them.

So true. That's what I am seeking, the Truth first delivered to the Saints. HaliluYaH

We should pattern our lives after Yahshua, not copies of copies of copies. Because with each generation, in fact before the apostles had died, false teachers had already come, that they did add or take away until it's hard to recognize the original from looking at them, the original being Messiah.

Orthodox faith is based off the word of God and bases its faith from the bible and is the same as what early christians did.
Catholics twisted the word, and that is the truth. I am not saying orthodox is superior, orthodox simply means correct way. We all need to follow the word of God and the catholics need to change that i could care less what they call themselves but that change needs to be made.

Have you considered sticking ONLY to Jesus' words that he spoke while on earth? This is what he commanded.

"But be ON GUARD, I have told you ALL THINGS beforehand." Mark 13:23, see also John 4:25-26

followjja---follow just jesus always

That is not true hun.

Jesus did not teach the eucharist. He taught us to eat dinner, break bread and drink wine in remembrance of him. Just like he did the jews when he freed them from egypt.

This is just one of the many doctrines of orthodoxy which is not from God. Yet is a salvic doctrine which not only is false. but not even salvic in nature.

Catholics twisted the word, and that is the truth. I am not saying orthodox is superior, orthodox simply means correct way. We all need to follow the word of God and the catholics need to change that i could care less what they call themselves but that change needs to be made.

Changes need to be made in us all. We all have to aline ourselves with the word of God. Not what men who call themselves men of God tell us to believe.

God gave us the whole bible from genesis to revelation. (not men) we should follow all the words. not just parts of it, would you not agree?

NO. Why don't you believe Jesus? See post #27, did you even look at John 4:25-26?

I do believe Jesus.

I also believe Jesus is the word. and the word was God and he was with God.

the whole of scripture points to him. Why ignore the letter God gave us?

To cause division is wrong , yet their occurance is inevitable...

1 Corinthians 11:18-19 For first of all, when ye come together in the church, I hear that there be divisions among you; and I partly believe it.
For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest among you.

You will find that the soteriology of the Roman Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church does vary from one another.

The Roman Catholicism has much more in commun with the Protestantism than it has with the Eastern Orthodox Church.
Both the catholics and the protestants understand the salvation in the same way. They have adopted the theory of Anselm of Canterbury who said that Christ died on the cross in order to satisfy God's wrath, or God's honor.

The protestants see death as a punishment from God, they do not see it as a consequence of sin. So, they believe that, because of Adam's sin, God could no longer look upon man and someone had to die in order to make ("cosmical") justice.
The protestants do not understand what Christ did on the cross; they don't understand that Christ took the sin of the world because it is sin that makes us death and separates us from God. They do not understand that Christ came to defeat death and give life by restoring man's comunion with God and by giving the possibility (to man) in moving forward in God's love. They think that God sent his Son to die in order to make justice; they think that Christ "paid" (like in a trial) for our sins.

The catholicism turned christianity into a religion of merits and also terrorised people with Hell. Also, catholics do not have the uncreated energies from God. For them, grace is a created energy (favour/love from God). They believe that God does not comunicate Himself through the sacraments, but they believe that through sacraments, God comunicates His grace. And this grace is given to those that participate to the sacraments and do good works. The God of catholics is a distant God and the Pope is considered to be a vicar of God and that he (the Pope) distributes the grace of God.

The protestants gave up the Sacraments (since they do not give them God Himself) and formed the doctrine of grace (by grace they understand "unmerited favour/love from God"). But they make a separation between grace and God's love because they do not believe that grace falls upon everyone, but only on some elected people. Also, they do not believe that they partake with the body and blood of Christ, they take the Holy Comunion only in a symbolical way. The God of protestants is also a distant God, a God of sermons; the protestants talk about God, sing about God, praise God but they are not in God, because they do not believe that the Holy Mysteries give you God in a mysterious and real way.

So, the occidental christianity (whether is catholic or (neo)protestant) is very very different from the oriental christianity.
Maybe the only thing that we have in commun is that we believe and confess that Christ is the Saviour of the world, that Christ is both God and man and we believe in the Saint Trinity. But even in these aspects, there are differences and nuances.

The catholicism turned christianity into a religion of merits and also terrorised people with Hell.
Saying that we Catholics are terrorized with Hell is an overstatement. Christ taught us to have a healthy fear of Hell.

Healthy in the sense where not a day passes when you're not aware of what could happen after death.
Healthy in the sense where our thoughts are not consumed with Hell.

If we fear the Lord, then we will also fear going to Hell.

The God of catholics is a distant God and the Pope is considered to be a vicar of God and that he (the Pope) distributes the grace of God.

To clear things up: We Catholics don't believe that the pope is the main distributer of God's graces, while God himself sits back. To us, the pope is the representative of Christ's kingdom (church) on Earth.

Also, catholics do not have the uncreated energies from God. For them, grace is a created energy (favour/love from God). They believe that God does not communicate Himself through the sacraments, but they believe that through sacraments, God communicates His grace. That is true, all you wrote, Simona. But, we also, should keep in mind that antichrist will be annoited as king by orthodox partiarch. And firstly he will act as orthodox political leader.

True and unharmed orthodox confession does not save us authomatically. And the silly patriarch will realise whom he is annoiting only in front of his death. For the beast will kill him right in the middle of the ceremony.

The ways of Lord are inscrutable.

Sounds like someone is SPOON FEEDING you half truths.
There are many "protestant'' factions that some of the above does not apply.

Ummm... we don't agree with Anselm at all. Also, we believe that grace and presence come through the sacraments. Jesus truly is the bread and wine, that is not simply grace. Like it or not, Orthodox and Catholic are similar. The differences between us are nothing more than mysteries vs sacraments and patriarch vs pope. I can say that because many Orthodox churches have returned to the Catholic church. Why do you think Catholicism has an Eastern Rite. Right next to my parish is a Ukrainian church that recognizes Rome.

I am personally Greek Orthodox and was wondering what other denominations believe about the Holy Spirit. The catholic view is that the Holy Spirit proceeds from the father and the son, while the orthodox believe the Holy Spirit proceeds only from the father as stated in genesis. I know it is a minor difference but orthodoxy being the first and only church for the first 1000 years if Christianity. Wouldn't their view have to be viewed as correct?

The word speaks of vain tradition received from fathers. the Lord Jesus specifically condemned human religious tradition when used as an authority. It is not man's word, but God's Word which is important.

To answer your theological question, go to the Bible and mark all the relevant passages. Read what men with the spiritual gift of teaching say about it. Ponder if it has anything to do with Loving God or neighbor, or is perhaps a theological tiddywink of no consequence.

You speak of the first and only Church. There has ever been only 1 Church, the Body of Christ. To enter it one must trust Christ as only & sufficient Savior and consequently be Baptized into that Body by the Holy Spirit (1 Cor 12:13).

No denomination is the Church. The Bible never calls a sect or denomination the Church. We find the Word of God ending with Revelation. After that, humans have read it, drew conclusions, believed the truth or advocated heresy from the getgo. The so-called "Church Fathers" don't agree with each other, and you find heresy in them and other errors in them.

Moreover, most of what we have appears to be what the religious authorities in Rome and Constantinople (with its branches) wished to preserve. So if those bodies were corrupt, then they may have filtered out writings with their corrupt filter.

Go to the Word of God.

Atwood, manipulations with verses also is favourite trick of Satan.

You are trying to make your own opinion to be Word of God.
But selective usage of verses (apart from the context and the true spiritual meaning) is exactly the main thing which always Jesus condemned.

The Only Church is the True Orthodox Church. The others are anti-churches to spread error and confusion from Nestorians,Monophysites and Roman Catholics to the Protestants and World 'orthodox' If you study the history of religion in western Europe, you will see how it departs from Holy Orthodoxy.
