Discerning the true blessing. Not every blessing is a blessing.
In Lamentations, Jeremiah, the prophet, convoked Edom to relish and feast. However, this was only to enlarge their nemesis:
May you be sure: unless our delectation appertains to the aftermaths that ensue the carrying out of the will of Jesus in us (Romans 12.2), certainly pains will turn out.
It is truth that, in Jesus, we are uttered in many promises. Nevertheless, every promise or boon of Jesus for us are a thorough demonstration of what He plan on putting into practice through us. That is to say, the true boon of Jesus entails changes in our deportment, in order to turn us into something that can be used to occluding the breach:
So, if in this New Year, that had its setting about today, you look forward to the blessing of the LORD, that which makes rich and adds no sorrow with it (Proverbs 10.22), pray to Jesus but, above all, be cheerful to be the answer of your prayer, to wit, to be the blessing in the life of those who are debarring the blessing of Jesus in your life.
- “But woe unto you that are rich! for all of you have received your consolation. Woe unto you that are full! for all of you shall hunger. Woe unto you that laugh now! for all of you shall mourn and weep. Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you! for so did their fathers to the false prophets.” (Luke 6.24-26).
