Last week there was a fire in a Manchester dogs' home killing about 1/3 of the dogs there and many big-hearted people have donated an incredible amount money including Simon Cowell (I'm not a fan of his but fair do's to him) and like everyone else I was and am appalled that it was apparently deliberate. However would so much money have been raised if it had been people involved? Not so long ago a couple deliberately started a fire in their home killing all (5?) of their own children. Was there a significant outcry and huge amounts of money raised? No! Every week when I do my food shop the food bank is always less full than the animal bank. No one seems to care about people these days - the church is an exception to this. This is one reason that Diana Princess of Wales to so missed even today, she loved and cared for people. What has society become when we care for animals more than we do people? People today are so cold and the older I get the more I dislike the world I live in and the way it has become. Maybe I'm being prepared for something better...;)

It seems to me that society has become what it is today as we have dismissed God and left Him out of our lives. I can remember a time when people cared about others but in Britain today this is rare. As much as I love animals I have become increasingly concerned about the unloved, uncared for, abused and neglected. Children, the elderly person, the lonely - even teenagers who feel that life isn't worth living. There is no doubt that God changes us from the inside but as a consequence I feel detached from most of society.

Does anyone else (or all of us) feel this way?

I agree that people like to help animals more than any human these days, this is a sad thing to hear about, i agree with what you said but if we all coperate with hand and heart, there will be great change in the society, one should take step of faith and surely God will guide.

Yes sister .......it takes all I have to not give up on people......but then I realized the closer I
get to God the more it appalls me.....so I search for the good that is under this cloud..
the spring of new....then I act....there are children in our own neighborhood we all can help...
even people we know through family and friends ...these children are right under our noses..
the more we help the more we find...today alone we have 5 who spent the night and 4 more coming..
they will be here for the weekend....there are free breakfast and lunches at school here .....but the
weekends are rough..the parents dump their kids here and dont pick them up till Sunday night...
They have no other place to go but to be left alone to fend for themselves......so they come here...
we feed ...the get clean clothes .....help with homework .....and a taste of Jesus,s....we put a basketball
net up ...and more we dont even know show up....same as the rest.... wandering the neighborhood...
I sometimes think it is all in vain......but God knows we try.....this is a sad but needed discussion..
I pray we make a differance.... maybe a couple will rise above this kind of life.....we can only
hope....peace .....jo

My POV from this side of the Atlantic is that churches are partly to blame for the conditions that you describe.

Hebrews 10:24-25 expresses that a purpose of church gatherings is to exhort one another to love and good works. But, many church meetings have become controlled, scripted performances. Only people at the front are allowed to speak. If they take a break part-way through so you can greet those sitting around you, it is quickly interrupted so that those at the front can "resume the meeting".

If you go to a class outside of the main meeting and speak about doing "love and good works", you risk being called a legalist or worse.

Doctrine has become one-sided in favor of proclaiming the love of God. The emphasis is regularly on God's love for all people but very rarely about anyone loving God or neighbor in return. When I learn of a robbery in my town, I sometimes wonder if they were taught "Thou shalt not steal" at home or at church.

Romans 11:22 directs us to notice both the goodness and severity of God in the history of the Israelites. How many do that?! Almighty God brought the Israelites through captivity and deliverance from both Egyptian bondage (Think Moses and the Exodus) and Babylonian bondage (Think Ezekiel, Jeremiah, Daniel, Ezra and Nehemiah and more). Much of the Bible is historical narrative but the historical background and events of both Old and New Testament are often not well-communicated among congregations and even church teachers and pastors.

The Psalmist could say: I am a companion of all who fear Thee, of those who keep thy precepts.

Christians do sometimes find each other during travels or events and find commonality among themselves but I have also had the experience of being grieved by the ungodliness of gatherings that call themselves Christians.

These doctrines aren't popular but there is a revelation of the wrath of God, and a judgment and separation of mankind into two different eternal destinies called heaven and hell that are prophesied to happen. Death comes to all.

We fear man so much because we fear God so little. One fear cures another. When man’s terror scares you, turn your thoughts to the wrath of God. - William Gurnall (1617-1679)

O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever! - Deuteronomy 5:29

Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. - Ecclesiastes 12:13

And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell. - Matthew 10:28

when my grandfather was sick with cancer, his pastor mentioned that it bugged him how folks would take 1/2 day off work and gladly spend hundreds of dollars to take their pet to the vet, yet would not leave 1/2 HOUR early to visit a sick person. for free. 100% agree.
