I have a had a very deep relationship with God until recently, and now I am not sure what to believe. I have discovered some factors that have disrupted my faith, and while not attacking Christianity, they are...compelling. I have thought a lot about these items and wish to share them to get some new perspectives.

it saddens me to hear you're struggling with your faith. I'm not very well versed when it comes to the Bible, but I can share with you my reasons for giving my life to Christ, if you'd like...and I don't mind listening to you if you need someone to listen, however, I don't know if the chat room allows any conversations that may question our faith.

Where I do not think that any of the topics are directly inflammatory, I would not begrudge moving to a more appropriate site if one where to be prompted.
 
A good place to start is the concept of free will. The ability for the human mind to make decision does not make much sense, and as our brain is constructed of the same matter as all surrounding 'inanimate' items, the ability to decide would be an arbitrary force, defying the laws of physics, an act that I consider blasphemous.
 
God created us in His image. A table or chair or any other inanimate objects don't have dendrytes, or any of the other components of the human body's nervous system that allows us the power of thought, or the use of our 5 senses.

Look, I'm no brain, so in order to have a discussion of your level of deep thought, I can recomend a couple of very bright chat room members, if you truly need the verbal ping-pong. (Please don't take offense, this is more a reflection on my lack of ability to argue due to my natural tendency to avoid conflict, than any ill will towards you, I don't mean to sound rude, but really, there are some awesome people in here that would type several paragraphs on your one question and sound like college profesors...I'll give it a go, though...)

What I can tell you is that in my life, I have used my free will to make, oh so many mistakes! I have made decisions that go against His ways, and I have had to pay for the consequences by looking back and seeing how negatively these mistakes affected me and, most importantly, those around me.

After much thought, I have come to the conclussion that the reason He gives us free will, (and He has given us free will, therefore, thinking is in no way blasphemous, nor does it defy His plan) is so that we can choose to follow Him, or not. The choice is ours to make. I choose to follow Him, not because of fear, but because of love. I follow Him because Jesus died on the cross for you and for me, and to give Him all of my self, spiritually, physically, emotionally and mentally, is a microscopic payback for God allowing His only Son to die for me, for all of us.

What else do you wonder about?

Here, I tread dangerous waters. The nature of God Himself has often plagued me, particularly concerning just what you stated about choice. It was preached to myself that there is no middle path of sin, either one was for God or against Him, and from this one can conjecture that ones actions can definitely be defined as good or evil, as the purpose of our existence is to be tested in the eyes of God. But what can truly be defined as evil? The quality of death is essential to the existence of life, or rather, is of the same force of chemical equilibrium, leading one to conclude that mankind, taken from the dust of the earth, too would exhibit these qualities of required polarity, if you will. Without the force of death, the glory of life could not exist...making God the creator of both positivity and negativity. I am not sure how to feel about this.
 
The right to choose, your will does not come from the human brain, but the human heart; which is the inner man, the soul and spirit of man. your true being. the heart is not the organ in the body but the person who God created and giving a shell ( the body ) and it bacame a living soul. we all have a spirit which will do what the flesh want or what God want, which if we do what God wants for us to do will bring lasting joy and peace to the body. the fleshly brain is our storage chamber to the world, but our spirit when intune with God ( willing to obey him ) is our storage chamber to the spirit world that will effect us in the natural world.
what I am say is the bible teaches us that every man is born with a spirit, the body without it is dead. but born into a sinful world has caused us not to be able to acknowledge the spiritual world, ( blinded by sin ) which keeps us from acknowledging God and communication with him, as Adam and Eve did before sin entered in. ( the walked with God and talked with him ) it was not through the fleshly eyes but their spiritual eyes, the innerman. so God want us, which all of us have a place in us, ( our heart/spirit man) a concious of God ( his Spirit poured out on all flesh) to either want him or reject him. but no man will be able to say he didn't know, because God put the questions inside us all, will you serve me, will you be free? some don't see salvation as freedom, they see it as bondage and limited choices to be happy. ( I use to think this way myself ). there are many reasons why people say no to the grace God so freely offer the world, but there is only one reason we say yes to it. and that is we want to be free of the world which have had us as well as still have many bound in everything negative; everything. and once we said yes we will reap the benifits of God's amazing grace. from now till eternity. praise be to our God, thank you Jesus for what you did for me. and all who will receive you in their heart/soul/ the spirit of man.

I'm done for tonight, Una-B, I'll look for you tomorrow to continue our conversation. Just a thought before I go though...you may struggle with your faith, but He will love you, wether you follow Him or not. That's just Him being perfect, as usual... :)
