This reminds me of one of the most disturbing movies I ever saw and it was based on true events from the Vietnam war. It was about these american soldiers whose job was to clear these underground tunnels that the vietcong were using to do their operations. They actually had bunkers underground where they did their battle strategy planning and some bunkers where vietnamese soldiers were living right under the feet of the american troops. Two disturbing pictures come to my mind
Being swallowed by a boa constrictor - a typical horror movie scenario
I saw this film about people going underground to get to a massive cave. The problem was they had to crawl through a tunnel for 3/4 of a mile, with it being just 2 ft round. You pushed your gear ahead of you. With others in the tunnel it is a one way trip. I seriously could not do it, just watching the film gave me the chills.
The reason these tunnels had to be neutralized is because it was too easy for the enemy to pop up out of the ground and ambush a bunch of americans before they knew what was happening.
So.... these guys had to climb down into those tunnels and flush out or kill anyone inside. The problem is these tunnels were often booby-trapped and sometimes they'd come face to face with the enemy in a space barely wide enough to crawl through. Many of them died in the tunnels and I doubt their bodies were ever recovered. Some were drowned when the tunnel was booby trapped to let in water from a nearby creek and the opening where the water came in was blocked by a gate. Some were detected in the tunnel and as they climbed back out they were met with the bayonet of a vietnamese soldier. It was very disturbing. I think it was called Tunnel Rats.
