Regardless of your denomination or what disagreements people on CC may have, I think we have all seen false doctrine taught at some point in our life. We were warned about this in scripture but the level on which it happens is amazing and horrible. I would have included a poll with this post but I'm not sure how to do that.
Once a person is indwelt by the Holy Spirit, I think we can all agree that the person will be led to the truth. My theory on why there is so much division in the Church is because people are not so much building a direct relationship with the Lord, it's more that an average Christian just goes to Church on Sunday and many don't study the bible on their own. Will believe any form of doctrine handed down to them by someone preaching. If a false teacher is peddling false doctrine somewhere, there are people that just buy it hook, line, and sinker just because they assume that it's the correct teaching. Like, this man claims to be a preacher so I should just believe what he says.....and the personal relationship is totally skipped over.
God isn't the author of confusion. The reason the Church is so divided is because the Church is under spiritual attack. That's another fact people tend to forget. People forget that there are demons, there are sorcerers, there are satanists actively attacking people on a spiritual level. School systems and so called "Science" disregards all of these things and says they are mere rubbish. I think it has an effect when you are immersed in the world all the time trying to make a living and spend a relatively little amount of time with God and reading his word.
A lot of people don't think a lot about demonic influence. Scripture is sometimes used to support false teachings as well. The bible says a teacher must rightly divide the word of truth and I think it's important to keep that in mind. The best example I have ever seen of rightly and wrongly dividing the word of Truth comes from scripture. When Satan was tempting Jesus in the wilderness in Matthew Chapter 4
"
[SUP]1[/SUP] Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.
[SUP]2[/SUP] And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.
[SUP]3[/SUP] And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.
[SUP]4[/SUP] But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
[SUP]5[/SUP] Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,
[SUP]6[/SUP] And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
[SUP]7[/SUP] Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
[SUP]8[/SUP] Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
[SUP]9[/SUP] And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
[SUP]10[/SUP] Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
[SUP]11[/SUP] Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him."
When the devil said...."If thou be the Son Of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee and in their hands they shall bear thee up, let at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone."..... The devil is the father of all lies and is the most skilled deceiver that exists. It is written as he said but that was not rightly divided. This is why Jesus replied "It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God". Jesus rightly divided the word of truth. I've thought about this scripture many times over the years. I've come to call this type of abuse of scripture "The Devil's Argument". I've seen that same type of deceptive strategy used to support false doctrine many times.
That's just an example of the many traps that are laid out there for us in the world. Can you guys think of any ideas on how to stem the tide of false teachers and doctrines creeping into our Churches?
