Do believers die during the first resurrection?

Adam Eve were created to glorify God by having offspring to fill the earth with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord. But they weren't created with eternal life. When they sinned, the image of God was corrupted in them, and, consequently, their offspring. If God still desired to fill the earth with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord employing humans, He would need a means to restore the image of God in man. This is what salvation is all about.

The wages of sin is death, if man had not sinned then he would not die, because they would have had access to the tree of life.

Rom 6:23 KJV
For the wages of sin [is] death; but the gift of God [is] eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Rom 5:12 KJV
Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

What's your point?

Man could not die without sinning. That doesn't mean he possessed eternal life. And one could reasonably conclude that at some point, had man not sinned, God would have conferred eternal life upon him. But that didn't happen. So it's a moot point.

My personal opinion is that Adam was under a works covenant. He was tasked with keeping the garden, being fruitful and multiplying, and forbidden from eating from a particular tree. He failed, died and began dying, and became part of a covenant of grace.

The Adam's started off with immortality, which is very different than eternal
life.

Immortality pertains to a body that's immune to death.

Eternal Life pertains to a soul that's immune to death.

That difference makes it possible for Jesus' followers to have mortality and
eternal life simultaneously.

For example; Jesus had eternal life when he was here (John 5:26) however, Jesus
didn't obtain immortality till his resurrection. (Rom 6:9) In like manner, according
to John 3:35-36, John 6:47, John 5:24, and 1John 5:13 I have a soul that's immune to
death, but I won't obtain immortality till my resurrection. (Rom 8:23-25 & 1Cor 15:51-54)

The wages of sin is the second death not the first death. Adam was created mortal and would die eventually, sin or not.

FAQ: Supposing Adam had eaten from the tree of life before eating from the
forbidden tree; would he have been immune to the forbidden tree's effects?

REPLY: To my knowledge, the tree of life doesn't work like a vaccine, rather,
it's more like a medication. For example the language of Rev 22:2 strongly
suggests the tree is for treating maladies rather than preventing them.

* People tend to take advantage of medicine in order to continue their bad
habits. For example; treatments for STDs enable promiscuous folk to continue
their swinging life style with little fear of permanent consequences. The
same can be said for folk with high cholesterol numbers. Statins make it
possible for them to keep on eating foods that are normally unsuitable for
them.

Had Adam been allowed unlimited access to the tree of life, he and his wife
would've no doubt routinely included fruit from the forbidden tree in their
diets because its detrimental effects on their health could've been easily
reversed by chasing the bad fruit with the good; so it was pretty much
necessary to deny them all access to the tree of life to ensure their demise
in accord with Gen 2:17.
