Do we need to repent more than once to stay saved?

Should a person continue to ask for forgiveness after salvation.

We can forgive what Paul did in the past, but how about this point below?

Paul taught to others what also applies to himself, being a human like every other person, because repentance is a change of mind, not a change of the flesh:

Romans 7:25
25Thanks be to God, through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, with my mind I serve the law of God, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin.
All of Romans 7:14-25 is Paul using the literary tactic of IDENTIFICATION (see 1 Corinthians 9:22).

So then, verse 25 is merely a part of Paul's definition of what is carnality.

Please note that Romans 7:14-25 also identifies the law of sin and death; and in Romans 8:2 we are told that both Paul and the sanctified believer have been set free from the law of sin and death.

Okay I hear you. So that means that repentance is a one-time thing and that continual repentance isn't necessary. We're set free?

It is important that we abide in Christ.

But if we do, then we are indeed set free from sin (John 8:31-36, Romans 6).

The definition of repent is to change one's direction with a 180-degree turn away from sin, death, hell, and satan towards, righteousness, life, heaven, and God.

So then, if we repent a second time, would it not be back towards sin, death, hell, and satan?

We are to abide in the repentance that the Lord has wrought in us.

It would be wonderful if every person who has experienced salvation at one time never sinned ever again or though of the world's ways as attractive. Except that is not the reality.

There is a verse " let him call on the elders of the church, and the prayer of faith shall heal the sick, and IF HE HAS COMMITTED SINS THEY SHALL BE FORGIVEN"

So much for not repenting.

That part about " shall be forgiven".....is that in your doctrine?

Its not one dimensional.

The hyper paulines have a similar doctrine that " hey its all good, God forgave all my future sins as well"

And they will say
" i dont worry about sin, it is all forgiven"

Is that what hyper grace Is? I DO believe that all sin would be forgiven after GOD accepts the person's repentance and makes the just person righteous,past,present AND future.
Until oncefallen has updated Christian Chats view on hyper grace though I'll just say that and leave It.

not sure.

There is truth in all future sins forgiven.

The truth is we do sin.

The earthly family is used by heaven to illustrate heaven.

In our family on earth we have children


They are not cast away for sin. They are corrected.
They have remorse
They ask for forgiveness.
They get it.
They all move on in love.

Now, there is no way the child is not going to be forgiven....as is us in our walk.

But to pretend we did not sin and just high five the father.

1 John 1:8.

Notice it does not say, "If we say that we do no sin we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us."

It is speaking there of indwelling sin (in that verse).

"sinless perfection" is a misnomer that is applied to the doctrine of entire sanctification in order to produce a straw man that is easily toppled by 1 John 1:8.

While the doctrine itself, does not purport that sin is eradicated, so that we are without sin; but rather that indwelling sin is rendered dead (Romans 6:6, Galatians 5:24, Romans 7:8) so that it no lomger has any say over our behaviour (Romans 6:14).

Thus, 1 John 1:8 does not contradict the literal interpretation of its context, in 1 John 3:5-9.

The truth is we do sin.
I think that you are speaking from the perspective of the unregenerated.

He that committeth sin is of the devil (1 John 3:8).

The one who is born of God "doth not commit sin" and "cannot sin" (1 John 3:9).

The one who is abiding "sinneth not" (1 John 3:6).

And, it is possible to abide in Him for ever more (1 John 2:17).

All of this may indeed be hyperbole.

Exaggeration to make a point.

What point?

That if anyone is born again, they will have a changed life and will begin to walk in holiness.

As it is written,

Pro 4:18, But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.

If you are walking in one direction, and then make a 180-degree turn, you are now walking in the opposite direction.

If you make a 2nd 180-degree turn, you are now walking in the same direction that you were walking in before.

See 2 Corinthians 7:10.

I know that there Is the book by John that says

1 John 1:9
King James Version
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

I think this scripture Is talking about coming to CHRIST and not talking about a person needs to continually ask to be forgiven after salvation.
I Voted a person should continue to ask but i would of thought that was obvious, to the other answers i would say if you are continuing to ask for forgiveness is it possible you have developed a guilty conscience because you have the accuser of Gods childrens who accuses them day and night befor God.. which by the way hes not supposed to i dont think. However some would say if you still have a guilty Conscience you have not been forgiven but i would call that the language of the persacuter to trick our minds which are so fragile to developing a guilty conscience also because the scripture clearly says God will hear your sins no more if you turn away from wickedness, but what is lost here is wickedness will not turn away from attempting to decieve you into being duped.

This translates into what we find in 1 John 1:9.

Sometimes the devil himself unwittingly does the work of the Holy Spirit for Him; in that he accuses us to our face and when we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us of our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

For the Holy Ghost's job is also to pinpoint the sin in our lives so that we can confess it and be sanctified concerning that specific sin in our lives.

When we come to Christ we are in a constant state of forgiveness.

Hebrews 7:25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

But we should also be in pretty much a constant state of repentance as well. Turning from our own ways and our own thoughts and asking to follow the Lords Ways and having knowledge and wisdom from the Lord.


That doesn't mean we shouldn't ask for forgiveness. We should and we need it. Because doubts creep in. And that is what we need forgiveness for most of all.

This depends on which adversary you are referring to. the adversary in which this scriptures refers to is the one in which you have sinned against such a living human being. the adversary i am speaking of is the one who does not want you to be forgiven or feal forgiven and reminds you of sins, that you have been forgiven for and reminds you of sins he (satan) miss lead a person into doing then blames them for there wrong doing of falling for temptation when he had no right to tempt you in the first place (a law unto himself advasary (satan playing God in a twisted way because hes twisted). then theres the adversary who reminds you of wrong doing you where once convicted over and forgiven for. then theres the human being who does not know if the other person is forgiven.

Many are justified and do not immediately have perfect victory over sinful behaviours.

For many who receive it, entire sanctification (1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 (kjv)) comes as a "second benefit" (2 Corinthians 1:15).
The Lord can be depended on to have absolute characteristics, God never changes. If a person repents of sin it does not matter if he repented yesterday or will repent tomorrow. God reacts to the repentance moment by moment. If a person repented yesterday but changed his mind today and wants the sin, God counts it moment by moment and does as the person wishes, he can keep the sin and give up forgiveness. God reacts to what is today. We may change with time, but God does not change.

There simply is no scripture saying God will forgive sin we do not repent of. It is not truth and God is truth.
