Matthew 7:
[SUP]7 [/SUP]“[SUP][a][/SUP]Ask, and it will be given to you; [SUP][b][/SUP]seek, and you will find; [SUP][c][/SUP]knock, and it will be opened to you. [SUP]8 [/SUP]For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. [SUP]9 [/SUP]Or what man is there among you [SUP][d][/SUP]who, when his son asks for a loaf, [SUP][e][/SUP]will give him a stone? [SUP]10 [/SUP]Or [SUP][f][/SUP]if he asks for a fish, he will not give him a snake, will he? [SUP]11 [/SUP]If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!
[SUP]12 [/SUP]“In everything, therefore, [SUP][g][/SUP]treat people the same way you want [SUP][h][/SUP]them to treat you, for this is the Law and the Prophets.

When you ask God for what you have need of, do you expect to get it ?
Are you willing to accept if He chooses not to give you what you ask for ?
Would you prefer He give you what He knows to be best for you ?

This is kind of along the lines of a dilemma I have. The scriptures say that if we ask anything in His name we will have it(and should act as though we have already received it) but what we ask for must be according to His will. The problem I run in to is whether or not what I am asking is in fact His will...this then makes it difficult to do like He said, to have confidence that we will receive it. (For example, healing of a loved one, the salvation of a loved one, a safe trip somewhere, protection, provision, etc)

But absolutely, we should be asking that God's will be done, no matter how it may conflict with "our" idea of what should happen. If you know the character of God, His will can be nothing BUT ultimately good. Sometimes what He gives is painful but is not without an ultimately Good purpose.

God is more than willing to heal someone, provide protection, comfort and love. It's Satan who brings forth the bad and ugly brutalities of life

What does the "title" of the OP have to do with the Scriptures stated in the OP?

just wondering........'cause the title is a wee bit misleading in my opinion........but, I fully agree that ALL good gifts are from God above..........

The title may be a wee bit misleading to you and I am sorry for doing that.
I felt that often times people are disappointed when they ask for bread and
someone gives them a stone. Of course we know in this scripture, God is
saying 'who would do that?' Not Him.
Ahhh, consider the OP and well, just over look her, she is just an old lady,
what does she know ? LOL.. Again I am sorry.
BTW.... Did you get anything out of this ? I forget..... ~J~K~2

Hi JD..... I understand ( I think ) where you are coming from. I came from
years of ' word of faith' teaching, and I was afraid to confess I had a headache.
I personally had experience of learning that God did not mean for us to expect
Him to give us what we want as we call it into existence. I discovered, we
do get sick. I also discovered His healing is not 'right now' because I said He
promised it. It came slowly for me. He does as He wills.

You are right on track in believing He can do as you said. Heal someone you
are praying for. Save a loved one or friend, but in His time. I think you have it
pretty straight. You have wisdom because you know the Lord knows best and
you love Him and you are waiting upon Him to act.

There are times we have to step out in faith. I know it must line up with Gods
Word. Also, it is good to get counsel from a leader or pastor if it is a major
issue you are unsure of. Thank you for responding and I pray you will receive
the answer you are seeking. God bless you ~

JD..... I love this last line about Him giving us something painful but
is ultimately for our own good. When we think of all Paul and all the
men of God suffering for Him, as Paul said it wasn't pleasant but it
was for a great cause. Won't it be exciting to meet him some day ?

Why do I always get the feeling you do not like me ? It is like I rub you
the wrong way. I know we are not always going to be liked. That is ok.
It just seems I am always goofing up ~ Oh, yeah.... I am old. I forgot.~ LOL

J-K.............does this go along with your thoughts in the OP?

Matthew 6:25 "Therefore, I tell you, don't worry about your life -- what you will eat or drink; or about your body -- what you will wear. Isn't life more than food and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds flying about! They neither plant nor harvest, nor do they gather food into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren't you worth more than they are? 27 Can any of you by worrying add a single hour to his life? 28 "And why be anxious about clothing? Think about the fields of wild irises, and how they grow. They neither work nor spin thread, 29 yet I tell you that not even Shlomo in all his glory was clothed as beautifully as one of these. 30 If this is how God clothes grass in the field -- which is here today and gone tomorrow, thrown in an oven -- won't he much more clothe you? What little trust you have! 31 "So don't be anxious, asking, `What will we eat?,' `What will we drink?' or `How will we be clothed?' 32 For it is the pagans who set their hearts on all these things. Your heavenly Father knows you need them all. 33 But seek first his Kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Don't wor y about tomorrow -- tomorrow will worry about itself! Today has enough tsuris already!

Ms. Kay: Even Paul had a thorn in the flesh. Paul advised Timothy to take a little wine for his stomachs sake. God can and does heal, but he can also use medical means and He may also allow illness for His purposes, while strengthening the sufferer by His grace.

Ah ha.... I did not look at your age ~ I love it..... We aren't old, we are young at heart.
And just think, in Heaven there are no wrinkles to worry about.... The Lord is coming
after a church without spot, blemish, and wrinkle. Okay, I guess I carried that one
too far. Not meaning to make light of what Jesus is really wanting of us. We are so
blessed.

We are as old as we feel. God's grace always vivifies. It works more effectively than Oil of Ulay or Elizabeth Arden.

Yes.. you are right on. This is seriously a very true scripture. I recall an
incident in my life in younger married days and we had a need and I was
not sure how to meet it. God made a way. If we didn't have things troubling
us we would not know how great our Lord is and how true He is to His Word.
Thanks.. this is great reminder and getting things back on track.
Speaking of which ... my train is going to shut down for a while... ~J~K~2

At this very moment, I have a heaviness in my heart for a man who has
just been diagnosed with cancer, a friend or ours. A little 2 year old girl,
had brain surgery, and her check up did not come out as well as family
hoped, and a friend I love with all my heart ( like family) is in ICU very ill.
So, it is with a heavy heart I lay these loved ones at the feet of Christ for
healing and those who are having to go through the waiting. Our God is
always proving He is with us be it healing, or helping family cope. Thank
you for this opportunity to share what our God can do. ~
