Do you understand what that sounds like? On one hand you say Christmas is a pagan holiday but on the other hand you say that to you it is also then a CIVIL HOLIDAY. It makes it sound like you can JUSTIFY partaking of the BENEFITS of that holiday by REDEFINING your meaning of the holiday. I don't view it as hypocritical at all, and most unbelievers would make the same distinction. Christmas can certainly be a civil and common holiday that has no affiliation with anything religious. A large portion of our country views it as such. In that regard, it's no different than Thanksgiving, President's Day or the 4th of July. In that regard, I have no problem taking the day off that my work makes me take off to observe a civil holiday. I actually really don't care if people celebrate a completely secular form of christmas.

What does concern me is when people celebrate christmas as the birth of Jesus knowing full-well that's not when He was born. To me the religious celebration of christmas is more hypocritical to the world than anything else.

"Yes, we know Jesus wasn't born on this day, but we're going to celebrate it anyway by following the traditions of man, which Jesus told people not to do."
 
We know jesus was born on that day through romans empare whom were documentaring every thing in latin.

Blah? Bah Humbug would be more appropriate. Old Scrooge at least had his mean miserly nature to full back on as an excuse. Those who play the pagan card or quibble about Christs birth date seem to forget it is supposed to be a time
of Joy. In the time of Jesus there were two festivals that were celebrated that God did not command. One is Hannukah and the other is Purim. Hannukah is mentioned in John as the festival of Dedication and is known today by some as the festival of light. It would appear that Jesus and his Disciples may have participated in this. At least there is nothing to say they didnt. If Jesus could celebrate that why get so hung up about Christmas and Easter.

It seems to me like Christmas was lesson one in lying, telling me i better be good or santa won't come visit, no he would bring coal to put in my stocking, santa was said to be a plump man, but could fit down the chimney. What about the kids without the chimney? Oh they just keep door open. Then i'm told he flies around world being towed in air by reindeer, and elves make the toys. Then i'm told santa likes cookies and milk, that its nice leaving santa a snack. i never told my boys these awefull lies. i told them about Jesus putting His goodness in peoples hearts to share and help less fortunate. i never gave a plump man in a red suit the glory that only Jesus deserves. i know its not Jesus b-day, but peoples hearts do open up this time of year, even if its waving someone to go on the parking spot you was waiting for.

Be not conformed to this world......Exactly to what extent do we follow this? Do we stop driving and buy a Horse, Swap our Suits for Togas If we live in the world we must be conformed to it to some extent unless we live in a desert cave somewhere.

Exchanging the image of God.......

Should we follow the example of the Taliban or ISIS and destroy historic statues and buildings and also works of art?

I wont go into the lusts and body bit

As for being wise or foolish I let others decide for themselves which catagory they fall into. I suggest you do the same.
