Do you think masturbation is a sin?

Rick, don't you start with that HP stuff. Let sleeping dogs lie. Also, a person can masturbate without lust. They can do it out of loneliness, a lack of self worth etc. Lust is the main offender but it's not the only one.

Umm, you're still looking at it as lust. You need to separate lust from masturbation. Masturbation, in and of itself, is not a sin. For the bible to specifically state numerous sexual sins, but leave out masturbation, should show that masturbation, in and of itself, is not sinful. Now, what you associate with it can be, but the act alone isn't.

Isn't masturbation fantasizing about someone while touching yourself?
 
Well I thought masturbation was "substitution" for the actual "act". And obviously that would involve "thoughts".

I can see what you mean by this Ocean, but fornication is sex outside of marriage. So sex with yourself qualifies. Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit and masterbation defiles it. It is sin. Here's another question. If you are married and you withhold sex from your spouse and masterbate instead is THAT a sin? Are you committing adultry with yourself? If your body before marriage and after marriage is a Holy Temple belonging to God and then after marriage it belongs to your spouse too sexually, then do you ever have the right according to God to just take over on your own? If you are a Christian, your body is not your own and if you are married, your body is not your own either.

right... but even small children will masturbate... because it feels good and we are hardwired to enjoy the pleasure sensations... and young children who do this know nothing about sex, also a virgin who is curious might masturbate to discover what sex might be like, etc. So there are a variety of forms of masturbation but not all neccessarily involve "lusting thoughts" of a partner.
In the case of small children... even babies... it is simply for the sake of the pleasure sensation.

Masturbation is not fornication. Fornication is "consensual sexual intercourse between two persons not married to each other (Webster Dictionary)." One cannot have sex with themselves, since it involves intercourse between two people, married or unmarried. It is easy to call it a sin, but there is no biblical proof that the act alone is a sin. I think it's up to the individual, it falls under that category. If you are married, I think masturbation isn't going to be a big part of a person's life. And yes, our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit, but we live in a fallen world. As humans, you are going to get those desires for sexual gratification and you can try to fight it but that may not always work, therefore if a person masturbates to relieve that tension, and therefore escape those feelings growing stronger and leading to lustful thoughts or worse, how can that be a bad thing? Especially with a growing number of people not getting married until later in life, it seems like masturbation would be a healthy alternative to fornication, lust, etc.
 
Since you are a male, I'll just assume you are blind in one eye after gouging out your right eye for otherwise you would be a hypocrite for telling others to do so without doing so yourself considering that you have lingered with an eye on the female form in your life at times in one way or another.

For everyone else, Jesus often spoke in metaphors and parables. In fact, the Hebrews of Jesus day were accustomed to represent the affections of the mind by the members or parts of the body.

The right eye and hand are mentioned, because they are of most use to us, and denote that, however strong the passion may be, or difficult to part with, yet that we should do it.

This does not translate to maiming ourselves and spending the rest of our lives mooching off of government disability or other people. It means we should purpose to change our behavior.

Simply put, Jesus is saying that anything that causes you to sin and therefore negatively impacts your relationship with God should be removed from your life. This occurs to the extent we are able, with God's help to remove it.

Babies are born into sin but no, you're right in saying that they don't lust.

Children that discover their bodies before the age of accountability is not what we are talking about here at all. But there are all kinds of "pleasure sensations" that are sinful for adults. Tons of them.
 
i try not to do it. was a sex/porn addict before i got saved and for a while after. just gotta fight it. porn is bloody evil i dont think masturbation is that bad depending on what your thinking about but it still feels drity. Just do your best and if your a porn or sex addict fight it with all your might. God will see you through
