Don’t deceive your heart in order to make up an excuse to hurt with your tongue who you dislike!
• “If anyone thinks to be religious among you, yet does not bridle his tongue, but deceives his own heart, this one's religion is vain.” (James 1:26).
When someone is angry, their penchant is to find reasons to talk down, scathe or even take down those who they consider enemy. It fulfills what Paul foretold:
• “But know this, that in the last days difficult times will come, for people will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, arrogant, slanderers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, hardhearted, *irreconcilable*, slanderous, without self-control, savage, with no interest for what is good,” (2Tim 3:1-3 - LEB).
Note that most of the people don’t try to bury the hatchet. They prefer to close inside their grudge like a turtle in its hoof and go out only to hurt with their tongue.
However, see some verses related to the bad use of the tongue:
• “In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise.” (Pro 10:19);
• “The wicked is snared by the transgression of his lips: but the just shall come out of trouble. ” (Pro 12:13);
• “Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.” (Pro 21:23);
• “I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me. ” (Psa 39:1);
• “From the fruit of his mouth a man shall eat good, but the soul of the treacherous eats violence. He who keeps his mouth keeps his life; he who opens his lips wide, it is ruin to him.” (Pro 13:2,3).
• “But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned. ” (Mat_12:36-37);
So, have a good day believing in the power of piety, loving the good on everybody (including those who made of themselves your enemy) and never shushing yourself about what is good.
