Did anybody else see this? Donald Sterling tells Anderson Cooper: 'I'm asking for forgiveness' - CNN.com He apologized and went on to make some very good points about magic Johnson as a person. not a black but a person, which surprise surprise was taking as insulting and bigotry. is there any sensibility and reason left in American media? does anyone see anything wrong with his statements today? I thought he made a good point Magic Johnson has HIV (not that that renders him unforgivable to God) and made a living playing a game and having sex with women. and these are the people we let our children look up to! He hasn't done anything to improve living standards for blacks to my knowledge. sure sterling could have been more loving but why is our country so afraid of pain so much so as to label truth as bigotry. the only heresy nowadays seems to be saying there is such a thing. Please Jesus come soon I can barely stand this wicked generation!
 
He said Magic was a bad example for children.

He was right.

I will go further and state, few if any NBA players are role models for kids....or NFL players, or baseball players. Heck if mom and dad ain't yer hero, ya gots issues.

Forgiveness seems next to impossible for the race baiters out there.

His wife wants the team, says her husband has the early onset of dementia.

From what I heard of the interview, and it was very little, he did not sound sincere, maybe because it was a private conversation to his girlfriend who he was paranoid about.

The media has np with Sterling having a gf, and being married but if he goes off on a rant in a private phone call with his gf, oh now he is the worst thing ever.

Because of this story, now the media is going after the Washington Redskins owner Daniel Snyder, calling him a racist for having the team's name the Redskins, which it has been called since its creation many years ago.

The power of the pen seems to be quite corrupted today.
 
Sterling is backstroking big time to try and save himself from his big mouth. Too little too late methinks. If he shows repentance (such as bringing Magic to a game himself - oops can't do that since he's banned - ok if he gives Magic his season seat) then we might give him benefit of the doubt.

Sterling's faults run deep. He advertises (or at least did) daily in the LA Times about what a great philanthropist he is. Trouble is, he only actually gave a small percentage of what he pledges.

Magic has invested heavily in black neighborhoods, to bring jobs and renewal to their 'hoods. As John Stewart said, Magic is so well respected for what he's done that even HIV won't dis' him.

My question is, it's illegal to record anyone without their knowledge. Why is this woman (and those who tape others like Mel Gibson) being given a pass? Not that these speakers didn't hang themselves, but is a wrong that exposes another wrong then made right?

Sensibility in the media? That's gone the way of the dodo bird. Now it's all about the titillating sound bite.

And amen, come soon Lord Jesus! Take us from this madness!

Probably not.

A role model is someone that is looked up to for his moral choices. I would say Johnson and many pro athletes do not live up to that standard....

and the ones who do are not public about it.
 
Meh I have heard so much on Sterling in the news lately. To be honest I have no idea what his original comments were, nor do I give much a care. Really I wish this story stop polluting the real news.

From a business standpoint, force him to sell his team for violating franchise rules, give it to his wife whom he has been shamefully cheating on, and let him go into quiet retirement. The dude is wealthy beyond my comprehension, he'll survive.
 
All have good points. Son in me I can think of plenty good Christian role models in all three mentioned leagues, for example Albert pujols, Josh Hamilton, Clayton Kershaw, Matt Holiday, and Jose Abreu (just to name a few in baseball, that and the entire st. Louis cardinals organization( a proclaimed Christian baseball team all the way through upper management)) in the NBA How about Kevin Durant? and D-wade both are outspoken in faith and football has a few too most popular being Drew Brees. Athletes can be good role models just not all of them. I get what your saying about parents being role models but honestly the model of a good family is a rarity now days. Please know I am not saying I side with sterling by any means I just think he had a good point,and the media is incredibly unforgiving for his outspokenness, and to forgiving for his cheating.
 
personally I cant stand bigots like him. Also, Magic Johnson claims to have HIV but he lives a very clean life correct? There is NO cure for HIV correct? Then how is he beating it

Being as there are advances in medicine people with HIV can live long lifespans. Besides, I don't think he would lie about having HIV.
 
I think it was a combination of his physical conditioning, early detection, and bombarding the snot out it with whatever drug cocktails they had at the time. And there are others who appear immune to it, Magic's not unique in that, just well publicized.

Magic has the HIV virus but he does not have aids....he is a typhoid mary kinda HIV person...he can pass it to another but is not infected himself. Thats why he has lasted
 
the proof is always in the money.

Lets see who tried to buy the team. With this scandal it may go much cheaper.

Follow the money.
 
Look harder then because there certainly is a great deal more that is positive on this forum. That said, you have a point about some threads.

You missed the memo. These guys believe REAL Christianity (TM) is right Wing Republican Fox News talking points. Don Sterling is like a Right Wing Martyr Saint at the moment. Blessed are the obscenely rich and fornicators apparently.

Funny how liberals look at the debate of facts as something evil.
