I wonder if our Father in Heaven celebrates Easter with Jesus, and do the angels go on egg hunts, with a prize inside the really big egg?

LOL!
I don't know if this is just plain ridiculousness or sacrilege...

Does Jesus play ball with the angels? Do they take the Holy Spirit out to dinner?
Really??
Why must we impose such human ideas and actions onto supposed great and awesome transcendent beings who live in some other dimension which may not even have what we call matter or space.

[h=3]Hey thanks, you helped make my point! I just wondered if we really consider that it does matter what we celebrate in Jesus Name.

Matthew 6:9-13[/h]King James Version (KJV)

[SUP]9 [/SUP]After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
[SUP]10 [/SUP]Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

[SUP]11 [/SUP]Give us this day our daily bread.
[SUP]12 [/SUP]And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
[SUP]13 [/SUP]And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Of course it matters, we're told people would even drive out demons in Jesus name, and he would still tell them he didn't know them.

Well, I don’t really know what are you doing during easter overseas (I really hope, it is not just about eating – although good food with family, it is not bad thing . hmm. ..are you really painting eggs? I mean.. what? That’s your easter? Do you also water and whip girls? That’s what do pagans here during easter … I always hate that habit..)
In my homechurch is easter one of three occasions (which we picked over from OT three times thou shalt keep a feast unto me in the year ..ex23, but it is also in other chapters) when we are all together as a church from sk, cz, de, rs, ua. We are together for 4 days and nights, with Word and breaking bread and vine (lord supper), fellowship and urim tumim. Its celebration. I don’t see how it could be pagan thing.
But from what I gather in this thread, apparently overseas you are chasing rabbits, eating chocolates and painting eggs. We rather eat them, and also smoked ham with horseradish (why is there word horse?) and yes, I must be honest also chocolate. But no rabbits hunting, or I don’t know what else you do overthere..
be blessed

In America people tend to buy new clothes, go to church, later they hide and hunt eggs, and a lot of people have a large meal that is similiar to the large meals at Thanksgiving and Christmas. For my family the Thanksgiving meal is usually the biggest.

I don't care much for that stuff, except spending time with family. But many people only go to church twice a year. I see this as an opportunity to get them to attend all year.

Interesting thought. In Africa, it not uncommon to put the greater emphasis on Jesus death. The Good Friday, instead of the Easter Sunday.

Problem with this idea is............Y'all are not INCLUDING the HEART..............the INTENT........

ANYTHING we celebrate or do WITH A SINCERE AND CONTRITE HEART, AND OUR INTENT IS TO HONOR AND PRAISE GOD, He will welcome and accept.......

SALVATION, WORSHIP, PRAISE, CELEBRATIONS ---------------HEART THING!

Folks get their heart right with God.............they will know JOY

No, it is a Christianized pagan holiday.

It is not a HOLIDAY............

It is not a Christianized pagan holiday...........

IT IS: A day the Church celebrates the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus the Christ, our Lord and Saviour!

It does share the date with a pagan holiday...........SO WHAT?

You folks should Google your birthdays to SEE who you share your birthday WITH.........betcha there will be AT LEAST ONE PAGAN on the list............DOES THAT MEAN YOU ARE A PAGAN? DOES THAT MEAN YOU ARE CELEBRATING A PAGAN HOLIDAY/BIRTHDAY?

................goodness people............do what you want, but get out of the "condemning others" business willya?........

You DENY God.............you DENY Jesus.......you DENY Christianity........why are you even commenting?

(oh, yeah, that's right, unbelievers can't pass up the opportunity to make such comments...........sigh........)

We could extol our Savior together, if you will accept that he is the Son of God and one with Him, We can accept that we are dead to law, if you will repent of your transgressions that you could know of if you would accept that law lists them, we could bring forth fruit together, but you would have to accept all of God without the deletions you list you believe in no longer.

Joh_5:46 For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me, because he wrote about Me.

With your statements that you believe that Christ said not to believe Moses any longer, I would like to bring you into true belief in Christ. With all the things you say you eliminate, it eliminates much of Christ.
Logic assassination and character assassination all with one stone...nice shot.

Wait, so its Pagan of me to be eating jelly beans and Reese's peanut butter eggs and chocolate bunnies?

Yes.

If you don't go back and do what the jews do you are pagan.

But if you do go back and do what the jews do/did, then you are in danger of being entangled again in the yoke of bondage.

So its really a no-win situation. Its best to just rely on our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and not let anyone judge us because of any holidays...

A few questions that should be addressed:

1) Did Jesus teach about, or instruct His followers to celebrate Easter?
2) Did the disciples?
3) At what point did early Christianity start celebrating?
4) Why did they start celebrating it?
5) Are we told anywhere in Scripture to recognize or celebrate Jesus' resurrection? (Not that it isn't important, mind you.)

Any discussion that involves Easter or Resurrection Sunday can only start outside the pages of the Bible, because it isn't found within them.

Regardless, Peace my brothers and sisters.

Or google to see who set that day to celebrate His death and resurrection and why.
Or check out those Christian history books published by "main stream" Christian publishers.
Or start using His death day and His resurrection day instead of the name Easter.

And there's no one good except Him and repeatedly you are using that name. Why? To what purpose? To emphasize?

I believe His death and His resurrection are equally important but your post brings out even more questions.
Why don't we simply call it The day of His death instead of Good Friday.
Why is it called Good Friday?

The Bible does not elaborate much about what goes on in Heaven. It has said enough, and good sense dictates there is more activity in Heaven than we can possibly imagine! What do they celebrate? God has created patterns for us to learn by. Circular reasoning is better than a checklist that some view the Bible, like, check that's done won't happen again. That is a huge mistake, because it's not the example our Creator has given. You don't have to study the Bible to know this, because the sun comes up every morning etc.

The point I'm trying to make, is that God is a stickler for dates! What does Heaven do at Passover? I believe the Bible and it says we will continue the Feasts and Sabbaths when Messiah comes, and if you won't come to worship Him at His appointed times you will be punished. Will we have Easter then? I don't think so.

since most christian churchs have a leadership team to run that church or sect. you will find some scripture has changed, how people, churches think. regarding feasts. christain feasts like easter, chrismas. and because of, the name it, and blaim it. and politics. its now happy holidays. the joy of being political correct. but in simple terms easter and Christmas was here before I was born. and is celebrated every year. the joy of not being political correct. lol

I was referring to the celebration of Easter not being Biblical.

Actually, it is Biblical. Ishtar is in the Bible...

Eze 8:13 He said also unto me, Turn thee yet again, and thou shalt see greater abominations that they do.
Eze 8:14 Then he brought me to the door of the gate of the LORD'S house which was toward the north; and, behold, there sat women weeping for Tammuz.
Eze 8:15 Then said he unto me, Hast thou seen this, O son of man? turn thee yet again, and thou shalt see greater abominations than these.
Eze 8:16 And he brought me into the inner court of the LORD'S house, and, behold, at the door of the temple of the LORD, between the porch and the altar, were about five and twenty men, with their backs toward the temple of the LORD, and their faces toward the east; and they worshipped the sun toward the east.

Hot Cross Buns...

Jer 7:18 The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me to anger.
Jer 7:19 Do they provoke me to anger? saith the LORD: do they not provoke themselves to the confusion of their own faces?
Jer 7:20 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, mine anger and my fury shall be poured out upon this place, upon man, and upon beast, and upon the trees of the field, and upon the fruit of the ground; and it shall burn, and shall not be quenched.

One should investigate the queen of heaven and what these cakes really were.

“In Babylonia…the goddess of spring was called Ishtar. She was identified with the planet Venus, which, because…[it] rises before the Sun…or sets after it…appears to love the light [this means Venus loves the sun-god]…In Phoenecia, she became Astarte; in Greece, Eostre [related to the Greek word Eos: “dawn”], and in Germany, Ostara [this comes from the German word Ost: “east,” which is the direction of dawn]” (Englehart, p. 4).

“Easter—the name Easter comes to us from Ostera or Eostre, the Anglo-Saxon goddess of spring, for whom a spring festival was held annually, as it is from this pagan festival that some of our Easter customs have come” (Hazeltine, p. 53).

“On this greatest of Christian festivals, several survivals occur of ancient heathen ceremonies. To begin with, the name itself is not Christian but pagan. Ostara was the Anglo-Saxon Goddess of Spring” (Ethel L. Urlin, Festival, Holy Days, and Saints Days, p. 73).

“The fact that vernal festivals were general among pagan peoples no doubt had much to do with the form assumed by the Eastern festival in the Christian churches. The English term Easter is of pagan origin” (Albert Henry Newman, D.D., LL.D., A Manual of Church History, p. 299).

“Since Bede the Venerable (De ratione temporum 1:5) the origin of the term for the feast of Christ’s Resurrection has been popularly considered to be from the Anglo-Saxon Eastre, a goddess of spring…the Old High German plural for dawn, eostarun; whence has come the German Ostern, and our English Easter” (The New Catholic Encyclopedia, 1967, Vol. 5, p. 6).

Easter Parade: Welcome Sweet Spring Time!, by Steve Englehart, p. 4, states, “When the Puritans came to North America, they regarded the celebration of Easter—and the celebration of Christmas—with suspicion. They knew that pagans had celebrated the return of spring long before Christians celebrated Easter…for the first two hundred years of European life in North America, only a few states, mostly in the South, paid much attention to Easter.”

But does God really care? We read out of Ezek 8, let's continue reading...

Eze 8:17 Then he said unto me, Hast thou seen this, O son of man? Is it a light thing to the house of Judah that they commit the abominations which they commit here? for they have filled the land with violence, and have returned to provoke me to anger: and, lo, they put the branch to their nose.
Eze 8:18 Therefore will I also deal in fury: mine eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity: and though they cry in mine ears with a loud voice, yet will I not hear them.
Eze 9:1 He cried also in mine ears with a loud voice, saying, Cause them that have charge over the city to draw near, even every man with his destroying weapon in his hand.
Eze 9:2 And, behold, six men came from the way of the higher gate, which lieth toward the north, and every man a slaughter weapon in his hand; and one man among them was clothed with linen, with a writer's inkhorn by his side: and they went in, and stood beside the brasen altar.
Eze 9:3 And the glory of the God of Israel was gone up from the cherub, whereupon he was, to the threshold of the house. And he called to the man clothed with linen, which had the writer's inkhorn by his side;
Eze 9:4 And the LORD said unto him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry for all the abominations that be done in the midst thereof.
Eze 9:5 And to the others he said in mine hearing, Go ye after him through the city, and smite: let not your eye spare, neither have ye pity:
Eze 9:6 Slay utterly old and young, both maids, and little children, and women: but come not near any man upon whom is the mark; and begin at my sanctuary. Then they began at the ancient men which were before the house.

Does it matter to God how we worship Him?

Deu 12:30 Take heed to thyself that thou be not snared by following them, after that they be destroyed from before thee; and that thou enquire not after their gods, saying, How did these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise.
Deu 12:31 Thou shalt not do so unto the LORD thy God: for every abomination to the LORD, which he hateth, have they done unto their gods; for even their sons and their daughters they have burnt in the fire to their gods.
Deu 12:32 What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it.
