I've really been wanting to get back into memorizing Bible verses. I used to all the time but not as much since working and starting a family. But I've found it to be quite a struggle with mom brain and just distracted brain in general.

I'd love to hear your best tips! How do you retain verses you've memorized? How do you make it enjoyable and easier to stick with? Any good tools that make it easier?

Hi and welcome. I usually memorize a different verse each day that stands out to me from my Bible reading. I try to keep it simple; but even so, getting distracted can easily make me forget. I keep the verse close at hand and look at it frequently. This could be on your phone or other device, a note in your pocket, or posted somewhere around the house where you'll see it: a small chalk board or white board for example. I used to memorize large portions of scripture, but these days I like to take one verse at a time and meditate on it throughout the day.

Read the Bible. Study the Bible. Let it teach you. Remember this. When you get to be my age, you are going to have trouble remembering the verses, but you'll know where to find them.

YES.
💯 % yes...

Write offs.
IOW repeatedly writing the verse out by hand on paper does miracles.

There is a recently published study by scientists measuring which areas of your brain light up or not and retention rates later of course materials.

Handwriting notes and verses absolutely smashes all other mnemonic devices for success every time. Not just sometimes...ALL the time.

Nobody wants to admit it....it's not cool or tech focused. Zero gizmos involved...just a plain #2 pencil and ordinary notebook paper is the best way to remember Bible verses.
I suppose you could use a ball point pen...or even a fancy calligraphy pen or even one of those ones that require an ink well and fancy tips you dip in the ink....but you do get a feather!

But....
Yes, that's how it's done.

So mundane it's difficult to believe it works. But it is the most effective.

By the way....

CONGRATULATIONS ON STARTING THE FAMILY.
Its your best thing to focus on for your health you could ever have done.

nevermind all the frustrations and seemingly neverending stacks of "need-to-do" items that motherhood and marriage brings....you will find that equilibrium and win at life. Its coming....just not in the short term.

John 14: 26

But the Comforter, even the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said unto you.

Oh wow! A verse every day is amazing. You've inspired me! Thanks for sharing your tips, too, that makes sense. Do you review all the verses you memorize periodically or are you able to retain them once you've memorized them the first time?

That is great insight! I need to get my highlighters back out. Thank you for sharing.

Ooooh. Yes! That makes complete sense. I honestly want to be off tech as much as possible so I'm very much a fan of this method. 🙌🏻Mundane & effective...that I can do. Thank you!

Thank you for your kind words! Your encouragement really hit home. And as hard as it can be sometimes, it honestly IS the best thing ever...our little girl has brought us so much joy. 🥰

I am old school, so I like paper Bibles, notebooks and note cards. For your daily devotion, underline or highlight a verse that is of special importance. Write it on a note card with a topic heading and the reference.
Stick it in your pocket and take it out to read and recite out loud whenever you get chances throughout the day.
