"...$900,000 - $1,700,000 per store..."

I don't expect much from these big international companies. They are driven by money and have no soul. Many of them are reaping in profits off cheap labour in third world countries. I am disappointed in celebrities cashing in on their fame to praise these companies.

Walmart isn't forcing anyone to work for them. It isn't forcing anyone to buy from them. Aside from mishandling it's waste, it's not doing anything wrong.

The hatred of Walmart is rooted in the hatred of capitalism. Socialists can't stand the freedom and wealth capitalism has brought to the world. They don't want YOU to be able to buy everything from bread to tvs at an affordable price. Walmart, and other retailers are neither moral or immoral. They are a company in business to make a profit, and profit is the thing these people HATE the most. This story is from 5 months ago and the "worker protest" was a complete and utter failure, as most of the "protesters" were paid agitators. Also, the RT (Russia Today) network is for the very most part a propaganda arm of Putin's fascist state. Here is an American reporter who worked for this "news" network, realizing this and qitting on air the other day.

Walmart, State Senate Republicans under fire for campaign donations - NY Daily News

The retail giant has poured $425,000 into the Senate GOP’s campaign coffers since the start of 2010 — including a $100,000 donation last March as Republicans were pushing for a controversial tax credit that could mean millions for Walmart.

The tax credit was included in the 2013-14 budget to compensate businesses for an increase in the state’s minimum wage. Under the legislation, businesses that keep or hire workers between the ages of 16 and 19 at minimum wage will get credits covering much of the cost of the wage increase.

Silence Is Golden?

Bribery Case Hushed

In September 2005, a senior Wal-Mart lawyer received an alarming e-mail from a former executive at the company’s largest foreign subsidiary, Wal-Mart de Mexico. In the e-mail and follow-up conversations, the former executive described how Wal-Mart de Mexico had orchestrated a campaign of bribery to win market dominance. In its rush to build stores, he said, the company had paid bribes to obtain permits in virtually every corner of the country.

Wal-Mart dispatched investigators to Mexico City, and within days they unearthed evidence of widespread bribery. They found a paper trail of hundreds of suspect payments totaling more than $24 million. They also found documents showing that Wal-Mart de Mexico’s top executives not only knew about the payments, but had taken steps to conceal them from Wal-Mart’s headquarters in Bentonville, Ark. In a confidential report to his superiors, Wal-Mart’s lead investigator, a former F.B.I. special agent, summed up their initial findings this way: “There is reasonable suspicion to believe that Mexican and USA laws have been violated.”

Scandulosity?

Wal-Mart Scandal

The $24 million in illicit payments that Wal-Mart has been accused of making in Mexico amount to roughly two hours’ revenue for the world’s largest retailer. But if the allegations prove true, the payments could become huge issues for the company, its executives and directors.

The Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), enacted in 1977, makes it a federal crime for any company, officer, director, employee or agent of a company to pay or even offer anything of value “to any foreign official for purposes of influencing any act or decision of such foreign official in his official capacity, inducing such foreign official to do or omit to do any act in violation of the lawful duty of such official, or securing any improper advantage.”

as far as walmart, or any other multinational being moral or immoral the words simply dont apply. morality or "ethics" can only exist within some framework. we can have christian morality, business morality, or some other flavor, but any morality must have some sort of philosophical or theological framework. capitalism was an efficient tool to develop during the industrial revolution but it was so successful that it became something else. there are many corporations with more power than un nation states. our political system simply wasnt designed to deal with economic powers that strong. it doesnt really matter anyway, the end is in sight. i see it happening right now in here in shenzhen. foxconn, the big apple supplier isnt hiring this season. they plan to replace all entry level workers with robots. it will be interesting to see what the race to the bottom as far as wages will give us. if it pays for manufacturers in china to automate production, how long before the local 7/11 clerk will be a small indonesian made robot? robots work cheap but dont buy very much, maybe a can or two of wd40 a year. every time a robot replaces a worker, that robot is also replacing a consumer. i think the world is in for some interesting times.

Walmart, has become a retail monopoly, one that should be broken up just as Standard Oil was broken up a few generations ago.
