Eisegesis vs. exegesis. eis = into, ex = out of.

Eisegesis means reading one's interpretation into the text and exegesis means deriving an interpretation out of the text.

So in sum, eisegesis leads to exeJesus and exegesis leads to eiseJesus
Here’s a Better, Accurate Version

Try this:

Eisegesis = “I-say-Jesus” — I tell the text what it means.
Exegesis = “He-says-Jesus” — I let Jesus (through Scripture) tell me what it means.

That preserves your clever wordplay but keeps it true to the meaning — eisegesis puts you in control, exegesis lets Christ speak for Himself.
Basically...
  • Eisegesis = forcing your meaning into Scripture. <--- Bad :-(
  • Exegesis = following God’s meaning out of Scripture. <---- Good ;-)
Or simply put:

Eisegesis says what you want.
Exegesis says what God meant.

When the "Church" places more emphasis on membership (what they like to call discipleship) rather than taking care of the people who come through their doors, they are unbiblical.

I did a short survey a couple of years ago reviewing church mission statements. By far the most referenced passage was Matthew 28:19.

But that still doesn't answer which part of Matt 28:19 doesn't apply to the church? It was indeed spoken to the disciples but was the message taught by the disciples in all of their letters?

When they focus on that instead of the foremost commandment it's to keep from doing the hard work of growing into the fullness of the stature of Christ and to fill the pews with tithe payers.

2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV)
“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed,
rightly dividing the word of truth.”

When we read our own opinions, biases, or cultural ideas into Scripture instead of drawing truth out of Scripture, that’s called eisegesis — and it’s spiritual poison.

Eisegesis twists God’s Word to fit human viewpoints. Exegesis, on the other hand, humbly lets Scripture speak for itself. One leads to truth; the other to deception.

This is how false doctrines are born — when people try to make the Bible say what they want it to say instead of what God actually said. The serpent did the same thing in Genesis 3:1:

“Yea, hath God said…?”

The moment we add or subtract from His Word, we corrupt its purity.

“Every word of God is pure…” — Proverbs 30:5

If we let eisegesis into the pulpit, we’re not feeding sheep — we’re poisoning them.
The Word must interpret us, not the other way around.

What are some examples you’ve seen of modern teachings where culture or personal opinion has been read into Scripture?

Grace and Peace

Some people inject what they want to believe and have a different viewpoint of reality that affects their interpretation of the Bible.

When Satan tempted Eve she said they could not eat of the tree for the only reality she knew was what God told them.

So Satan tempted her with an alternate reality that if they ate of the tree they would be as gods and have an elevated position so she ate and sinned.

And Satan has been trying to get people to exalt themselves as a god and better.

Like Pharoah and other rulers and people in the occult trying to be greater by the power of nature.

1Ti 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
1Ti 4:2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron.

2Ti 4:2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
2Ti 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
2Ti 4:4 And they sMiddle East hall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

The new age that interprets the Bible and religions according to the occult and evolution, and people are going to evolve to be spiritual, and greater, and Jesus became an ascended master among others, and there is no personal God, but they honor the God of forces the power of nature, and the New Age Christ is the next world teacher.

The time will come that people will not want to hear the truth of the Bible but want to hear it according to the new age.

The new age's foundation is of evolution and the occult so that is how they interpret scriptures.

The new age is the reason the world rebels against God establishing it as the only thing that can be preached and stopping the preaching of the Gospel, and the belief in a personal God.

The Arab nations will be plucked up by the roots by nuclear weapons for they will rebel but the governments will go along with it.

When the New Age Christ negotiates peace in the Middle East resulting in a peace treaty he will push the agenda of the new age and things will change drastically which he will think to change and laws.

It is time for God to end sin on earth so He is allowing the world to have their way for 7 years and go against the truth.

The new age is the beginning of the end.

It is obvious when the Roman Empire embraced Christianity that they did not get rid of their pagan and occult ways and it became their foundation for interpreting scriptures.

Because of that they can sway to go along with the world.

The Bible says the Roman Empire does not lose their dominion until Jesus puts down the world.

Which will be all Caucasian nations and nations taken over by them together as one.

Which they shall devour the whole earth, and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces.

Which they will do by the new age.

The Bible says Babylon will never have physical dominion again but her life is prolonged for a time and season.

Which her ways are still on earth which she represents human religion, the occult, and the kingdom of man, which is what the beast kingdom is about.

Since the Roman Empire does not lose her dominion until the world is put down her religious system will go along with them which they will support the new age interpretation of the Bible.

Which the Pope will be head of the unified religious system with all religions interpreted by the new age and he will be the false prophet, and the Vatican the headquarters.

Joseph Smith had a belief that was not part of the Bible and it became his foundation for interpreting scriptures the Mormon Church.

The same with Jehovah's Witnesses, Christian Science, and Scientology.

And many individuals that want to hear the Bible their way and have a belief that is not part of the Bible and they try to incorporate it in the Bible.

2Ti 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

But many people go by what their denomination puts forth as a blueprint and that is how they see it.

Act 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

But we should not take their word for it but we should read the Bible to see if they are telling the truth.

We should read the Bible and take it as it is not what we want it to mean but for some people they cannot see that when their own ways can get caught up in it.

We should not honor the denomination and the preacher is a godly man and could not be wrong.

And honor dear grandpa and grandma that would surely be going to the house of truth.

Or honor anyone else taking it for granted that they have the truth and are not wrong.

But for some people they cannot see that when their own ways can get caught up in it.

Which is so out of hand that many people do not know who to trust and if they even have the right interpretation.

But many people's arrogance will take over as they choose a belief system so they can get in the game and fight to exalt themselves as the flesh will do.

When they focus on that instead of the foremost commandment it's to keep from doing the hard work of growing into the fullness of the stature of Christ and to fill the pews with tithe payers.

The pews will fill when the lamb are fed. Even Billy Graham acknowledged that few souls are saved by evangelism.

But that still doesn't answer which part of Matt 28:19 doesn't apply to the church? It was indeed spoken to the disciples but was the message taught by the disciples in all of their letters?

IMHO none of it applies to the church, it is the disciples assignment, not the churches. Take care of the lambs first, then the flock will follow. That is what Yeshua did.

Precious friend, you do realize, of course, when you look at The Scriptures Themselves,
there are Actually a few sins Committed, Even before "eating"?:

"And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou
mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt
not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die."
(Genesis 2:16-17 AV
"Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which The
LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall
not eat of every tree of the garden? [ Satan's sin # 1 = questioned God's Word? ]
And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the
garden: But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath
said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die." (Genesis 3:1-3 AV)
[ > > > > > + woman's sin # 1 = added to God's Word? = 2 sins ]
"And the serpent said unto the woman, ye shall not surely die: [ DENIED = 2/3 ] For God
doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye
shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. And when the woman saw that the tree
was good for food and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired
to make one wise [ lust = 2/4 ], she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat [ disobeyed = 3/5 ],
and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat." [ disobeyed = 1/6 ]
(Genesis 4:4-6 AV)
Total of SIX sins, Correct? exegesis or eisegesis?

Satan's tactics Are Actually FIVE-fold:

1) Question, 2) Add To, 3) Subtract From, 4) Water - Down, And 5) DENY God's Word Of Truth!

And, why we need to "...put on the FULL Armor of God..." (Ephesians 6:11-19 AV), eh?

Amen.

We should then Learn To be Very prayerful And Careful how we ourselves
Handle/Obey The Word Of Life! eh?

Grace and Peace

The most egregious example of eisegesis I see on CC is "tulip", which contradicts Scripture as follows:

T – total depravity, meaning souls are unable to exercise sufficient MFW to seek salvation. (Matt. 7:7, Rom. 1:20, 2:5, 3:22-28)

U – unconditional election, meaning that souls need not satisfy a divine requirement such as faith or repentance, but God chooses to save some while damning the rest to hell. (Matt. 4:17, 7:21, John 3:16, Eph. 2:8-10, Gal. 5:6, 1John 3:23)

L – limited atonement, meaning that Christ died to pay the penalty of sin only for elect souls. (Rom. 3:22-26, 5:18, 2Cor. 5:14-19, Heb. 2:14-17, 1John 2:2)

I – irresistible grace, meaning that elect souls cannot resist or refuse God’s will for them to be saved. (Matt. 13:14-15, 23:37, 1Tim. 2:3-4, Tit. 2:11, 2Pet. 3:9)

P – perseverance of the saints, meaning that the elect cannot repudiate their salvation and commit apostasy, because God perseveres in keeping them saved. (Rom. 11:22, 1Cor. 15:2, Gal. 5:4, Col. 1:22-23, 2Thes. 1:4-5, 2Tim. 2:12, Heb. 3:6&14, 10:35-36, Jam. 1:12, 2Pet. 1:10-11, 2:20, 1John 2:24-25 and Rev. 2:10)

When it comes to eisegesis, nothing else is worse than OSAS. It's everywhere on CC. And worse yet, just try & get any of them to believe the truth. Post all the scripture you want, they refuse to change. I've tried several times to explain, & failed.:(

In Spirit I disagree.

as you stated

2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV)
“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed,
rightly dividing the Word of Truth.”.

here are this verses witness...

James 1:22-25
Be doers of the word, and not hearers only. Otherwise, you are deceiving yourselves. / For anyone who hears the word but does not carry it out is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror, / and after observing himself goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. ...

BOTH ;

'Eisegesis' is not a part of the Bible[Living Word of God] itself, but rather a method of biblical interpretation where a reader imposes their own ideas, biases, or agenda onto a text.

and

'Exegesis' itself is not found in the Bible. 'exegesis' is examining scripture to interpret it, using grammatical, literal, historical, synthesis, and practical principles.

The Word of God IS NOT 'grammatical, literal, historical, synthesis, and practical principles. '

John 6:63
It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are Spirit, and they are Life.

Jesus does not state: "The words that I speak to you are", 'grammatical, literal, historical, synthesis, and practical principles. '

Knowing First that the Word of God is Spirit and descends from the Heavens.

John 8:23
Then He told them, “You are from below; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world.

1 Corinthians 15:50
Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does corruption inherit incorruption.

Where as :

'Eisegesis' and 'Exegesis' are both concepts from mankind way of thinking.

There is ONLY one way to God and it is through the Spirit of Jesus and it does not include 'Eisegesis' nor 'Exegesis'.

"What are some examples you’ve seen of modern teachings where culture or personal opinion has been read into Scripture?"

Well we can start with this and go back in ancient times, way before the Birth of Jesus, to when the very religions, that rose on their own interpretations of God's Word.

This is not a bad teaching, just the that wording and the Spirit needs a bit fixing, that is if you want to be closer in Truth with God Spirit, is all I am saying.
If I am reading this correctly, are you supporting the view that scriptural interpretation can be interpreted through exegesis? But that interpretation alone can not bring us close to God because hes Spirit?

Or are you rather supporting the view that the word of God should be interpreted by Spirit? Because God is Spirit therefore we should be weary of using exegesis when interpreting Gods word.

I cant quite grasp what youre saying here as my comprehension level of reading isnt great at times!

I would like some clarification, if you don't mind:)

If you wouldnt mind giving a synopsis of your veiws, I would love one..with simpler language my brain can handle... I would like to better understand your view here

Refuting TULIP — A Clear Biblical Response
  • T – “Total Depravity” (False): Scripture teaches that while humanity is fallen, all are still able to seek and respond to God’s call (Matt. 7:7; Rom. 1:20; 2:5).
  • U – “Unconditional Election” (False): God’s saving choice is conditioned on faith and repentance, not arbitrary selection (John 3:16; Eph. 2:8-10; 1 John 3:23).
  • L – “Limited Atonement” (False): Christ died for all people, not only for an elect few (2 Cor. 5:14-19; Heb. 2:9; 1 John 2:2).
  • I – “Irresistible Grace” (False): God’s grace can be resisted; many reject His offer (Matt. 23:37; Acts 7:51; 2 Pet. 3:9).
  • P – “Perseverance of the Saints” (False): Believers must continue in faith; apostasy is warned against repeatedly (Rom. 11:22; Heb. 3:14; 2 Pet. 2:20; Rev. 2:10).
Summary:
TULIP replaces the gospel of free grace with a man-made system. Scripture shows that salvation is offered to all, received by faith, and maintained by continuing in Christ.

To give you my point of view it will be a mankind/flesh point of view. That is what both 'Exegesis' and 'Exegesis' are, mankind's lazy way to try and figure out what God Spirit is teaching.

Here is scripture that supports this spiritual Truth.....

Matthew 5:37
All you need to say is simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ anything beyond this comes from the evil one.

SO either receive Spiritual discernment in Spirit or reject it, anything else comes from the evil one, 'Exegesis' nor 'Eisegesis' is from the evil one.

Every concept mankind has tried to use to get the 'context' of what is Spiritual discerned, FAILS!!! Because the only path to discerning God's Word is Spirit. any thing else is from the evil one.

"the word of God should be interpreted by Spirit." Is a command from God and taught by Jesus.

John 4:24
God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in Spirit and Truth.”

One can see, it is a simple command for the Spirit, that does not include ; 'Exegesis' nor 'Eisegesis' .

ONE has to wonder why , mankind would implement more confusion in their interpretations, seeing as the ink of the letter is dead in Spirit, it is no wonder that mankind in their ignorance(not knowing) tries in vain to find Light and Life in that dead ink.

Jesus explained it here :

John 6:63
It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are Spirit, and they are Life.

There it is, so simple logic a babe in Christ can discern so easily. And it does not include 'Exegesis' nor 'Eisegesis'.

This is not rocket science for the 90+ intellectuals, This is for you who want to discern God's Word in simple Logical Spiritual terms.

This is what convinced me, that Spirit is the only way to discerning God's Word.

You have read about antichrist. many of us have.

But have you read how antichrist is actually defined ??

ANTI - means "oppose to", or "anything else" placed "instead of" Jesus the Christ in Faith.

SO the spirits of antichrist is ANYTHING that is "oppose to" the teachings of Christ, , or ANYTHING "else" then the teachings of Christ or ANYTHING placed "instead of" Jesus the Christ in Faith.

Once you place your Faith in this Truth lots more will become OPEN for you in Spirit.

So now you can choose to accept that "the antichrist is Spirits" or you can reject it.

you can choose to accept that "the flesh profits nothing" or you can reject it.

you can choose to accept that "It is the Spirit who gives life" or you can reject it

you can choose to accept that "God is Spirit," or you can reject it

Can you discern what is happening NOW ???

The Word of God is RIGHTLY divided to fulfill :

2 Timothy 2:15
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

So now do you believe that "anything beyond this comes from the evil one.. or you can reject it

I did not rely on man made inventions to share these Truths with your Spirit. It is the simple Spiritual logic of the assembly of two or more Spirits and there Jesus is in the midst of that fellowship.

Okay I can understand this, but the "spirit of God" gave my mother the "dicernment" that Jesus was created around the time his human body was formed. We all know scripture says he has always been.

Obviously, I had to point her to other scripture, and even then she was absolutely confused as the "dicernment" was strong. She refused to change her mind until a pastor corrected her.

We can be lead astray by what we feel lead to believe, because the spirit isn't the only one who attempts to guide us.

How would you reconcile the fact that many "spirit lead" believers are falling into complete denial of the scriptures at times. Or taking them completely out of context to support ideas that are genuinely against clear Biblical teachings.

1Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, we ask you, 2not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ had come. 3Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, 4who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.

5Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things? 6And now you know what is restraining, that he may be revealed in his own time. 7For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way.

8And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming.

9The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, 10and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

11And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie,

12that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

I see you use the term 'context', the reason I do not idolize 'context', is

(a) God said not to make idols and worship them and

(b) the idolatry of 'context is not Spiritual Truth in any sense, it is a dead totem to mankind's foolish wisdom.

what 'many' do not discern, is that 'context' supports ideas that are genuinely against clear Biblical teachings.

Even here I have come across some who refuse the Word of God in Spirit fellowship and present INSTEAD their own revised 'context' versions as proof.

So I speak to them, in their folly as the fools they present themselves to be.

You have to decide what you want to ask God of his Word-Jesus, is it Spiritual Truth or the 'contextual' idolatry of man-flesh ?!?
