The village of Maaloula has been taken over by Syrian rebels associated with al Qaeda, who have stormed the Christian center and offered local Christians a choice: conversion or death. A resident of the town said the rebels shouted “Allahu Akhbar” as they moved through the village, and proceeded to assault Christian homes and churches.

“They shot and killed people,” he said. “I heard gunshots and then I saw three bodies lying in the middle of a street in the old quarters of the village. Where is President Obama to see what has befallen us?” Another witness stated, “I saw the militants grabbing five villagers and threatening them and saying, ‘Either you convert to Islam, or you will be beheaded.’”
The village is located just 25 miles from Damascus, and sites within the village are dedicated as United Nations world heritage sites. Residents still speak Aramaic, the language of Jesus. The rebels who took over the city are associated with the al Nusra Front, an al Qaeda-associated Islamist group. Villagers reported foreign dialects ranging from Tunisian to Libyan, from Moroccan to Chechen.

To those Christians here on CC who whine about being persecuted.....this is persecution.
 
The problem in Syria now is the fight for freedom by the rebels of Syria has been overshadowed by some rat bags from outside coming in with their own agenda.
 
True, this is persecution... it is however also 'non quranical.'

That is pure Islam... Remember that Islam is based off of 3 books... Not just the Qur'ran... The western world has been deceived into thinking the Qur'ran is the Islamic 'Bible'.

Those who gave their lives and followed Jesus in death are so much braver and have so much more faith than me... I can't wait, God will mold me through the Holy Spirit to be like them...

This is how Islam started. Then again the Romans weren't exactly against forcing conversion and killing heretics as well. At least Christianity has moved on from the European Dark Ages.

True, but not like you think. To a muslim his holy book means much more to him than the Bible does to us. There is more respect. For instance, We as christians have no problem at all with different translations of God's Word, and we even fight over which one is best. A true muslim however will ONLY accept the Quran in arabic, the language of it's original 'revelation.' Ultimately everything is tested by words from the Quran, since it is seen as the final, decisive revelation from Allah. The Quran mentions that, unlike the heretics, 'the people of scripture,' (jews and christians) should be treated with respect in islamic lands. Therefore a devout muslim can only see these 'rebels' for what they are: criminals and sinners.

is this the beginning of the end. is this where your faith is tested and there are many martyrs.
some say that what the Muslims are doing now is similar to what the church went through with the crusades and all the inquisitions except more extreme.

Christianity slipped into the dark ages it didn't begin there. Islam has always been there.
