“Free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is the digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated,” Musk said in a statement. “I also want to make Twitter better than ever by enhancing the product with new features, making the algorithms open source to increase trust, defeating the spam bots, and authenticating all humans. Twitter has tremendous potential — I look forward to working with the company and the community of users to unlock it.”

I could not read the article you linked to without signing in or creating an account to do so, so I thought it may be the same for others, and also, giving a bit of the article seemed a good idea anyways :D So I found a different site from which to read the announcement :)

Yes, I wish people would stop inserting links to info you have to create accounts for to access.
 
I haven't done the deep dive on this, but will Musk do anything to keep lies and deceptive info off twitter, or will it just turn into a free-for-all where anyone can say anything without accountability for it being true?

Free speech is free speech. So if Musk wants free speech there will be no censorship. Only vulgar or blasphemous content should be banned. Apparently Trump does not plan to go back to Twitter, which makes no sense.

Mistake was made, Sister Mag fixed it. It didn't ask me to create an account. But of course I can't go back and change that because of CC rules.

It's okay honey - I'm not "fire-hot angry" or anything like that - I just wanted to take this opportunity to express just how disappointing it is when that happens.

Musk genuinely believes that he is doing the right thing. He has a simple lifestyle, earns no salary and lives off the sale of his shares. In some ways that makes his more "out there" ideas more dangerous. People are more likely to accept his ideas because he is not in it for personal gain.

I've actually been wondering if he might end up being the Beast. It looks like he's trying to bring about peace...his name is popping up everywhere. Just a niggling thought at the back of my mind that he might look like a good guy but....
