Lack of intellect? If you were brought up in North Korea or Soviet Russia, you would have walked away from me and thought I was stupid if I told you there was a God in heaven. If you were brought up in Nazi Germany, you would have probably thought me a fool to say that Jews were people and should be treated as such.

Look at Russians, they lived under Communism for a century and they're extremely religious, lol.

The Russian taxi drivers in my country are a stark contrast to us, the natives. They have Jesus pictures, crosses, saint Mary pictures etc. in the taxi and so on. Get into a Russian taxi and it is like walking into an Orthodox church. 100 years of Communism didn't do anything to that extreme religiousness of the Russians.

Simply because you study religions and Greek philosophy doesn't mean there is no bias. Don't you realize what a bias is? It's not necessarily neglecting the study of something. It is putting it in a box for a reason that is not based on logic but more on emotion, convenience, & etc.

Heres a fact for you, nobody is without bias. No school system is without bias. Everyone operates with presuppositions. If you studied philosophy, why didn't they teach you that?

"evolution and God do not nullify each other"

If you mean evolution does not nullify the idea of a god, you are correct. If you are saying that evolution does not nullify the idea of the God of the Bible, you are wrong. It stands in stark contrast to the Genesis account. If you want to think of the Genesis account as a metaphor, then you are welcome to. But it is only a matter of time before the entire Bible becomes a metaphor to you and, eventually, a work of fiction in your mind.

You are not to twist Scripture to fit to this age of thinking, rather you should bring your own way of thinking into subjection with Scripture. Either believe God or don't. Don't play games.

Science is wrong all the time (even when the entire world comes to think of one theory as fact) and has room to update itself. For example, Stephen Hawking just said there are no black holes. The Bible doesn't have this room. Either it is wrong and we throw it out, or it is right and it stays on our desk.

Black holes exist, the headlines were just used to get clicks from simpleminded people like you.

Stephen Hawking just said that by the classical definition, nothing can escape from a black hole. But quantum theory enables energy and information to escape. He just changed the definition of "black holes". The main point was that "classical black holes" don't exist in his opinion, but the black holes that we see in space, actually let some information escape.

Think outside of the box, or just read the entire article next time ;)

Actually the reasons why the Russians are religious now is particularly because they saw the horrors of atheism under the 100 years of Communism. It is not because they allowed and/or encouraged religion. For more concerning this, please study the life of Richard Wurmbrand.

Concerning black holes, you can call me names and ridicule me if you like. I am content to know Jesus Christ and I do not need your approval to go to sleep at night.

Furthermore, I did read the article. I know he was changing the definition. However, from the article I read, another term was suggested which was "grey holes". However, this is besides the point. The point is that science can and does change. Major theories are discovered false or inadequate on fairly regular basis. I think it is below you to zoom in on this one topic and neglect the major topic of the discussion. Can we please act like adults?

No. Actually the Orthodox religion was brought under Moscow's control, they weren't persecuted per se. Only religious extremes, like the Jehova's witness were persecuted as they refused to go the Soviet Army, which all men had to do. Also, Catholics were persecuted slightly, because their "capital" was Rome and Rome was "Western", not under Soviet control.

Your theory of "seeing the horrors of atheism" and then turning into extremely religious is just funny.

Richard Wurmbrand was Lutheran. For more information, please study his life.

I hope that God opens your heart to the light that He is. Do you know what the following verses mean, Thorsson?

"And He was saying to them all, "If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me. "For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake, he is the one who will save it" Luke 9:23

"Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God."

You need to put yourself and the world to the side in order to pursue God.

Your assertion is patently false.

Soviet policy toward religion was based on the ideology of Marxism-Leninism, which made state atheism the official doctrine of the Soviet Union. Marxism-Leninism required the control, suppression, and the elimination of religion.

The Soviet Union set about to do just that committing itself to the destruction of religion. They destroyed churches, mosques, temples, a great wealth of historical architecture and literature simply because it was religious; ridiculed, harassed, assaulted, imprisoned, and executed the religious; they seized the property of religious people; they took their children from them and placed them in state run atheistic orphanages; they committed religious people to mental institutions to be used as guinea pigs (after all anyone that believes in God must be insane in their view); flooded the schools and media with atheistic teachings, and promoted atheism as the only metaphysical truth that society could accept.

The total number of Christians murdered under Soviet state atheist policies strictly for religious reasons has been estimated to range between 12-20 million people by secular historians. The number persecuted is in the hundreds of millions. BY FAR most of them were Orthodox Christians.

Sources in the Russian Orthodox Church itself claim that as many as fifty million Orthodox believers may have died in the twentieth century from persecution by state atheist communists.

Thank you for that, however, it appears our friend is not looking for support for faith. He appears to be looking for support for his lack of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and His word.

No.

Yes.

Marxism-Leninism required the control, suppression, and the elimination of religion.

I don't know about Soviet Russia, which was a bit different, but in Estonia which was occupied in 1940, the Lutheran church was doing just fine, there was no "elimination". The "society" was just "negatively minded" against religion. In the 1950's, church congregation member numbers increased.

In what parallel universe do you live in? I'll just talk how the things were here, not in Soviet Russia:

1. They didn't destroy churches. A handful of churches were taken away from the congregations in the 60's and were used for different purposes (one given to artists to use it as a place to paint paintings etc.) Those churches were all very new, built in the 20th century. The absolute majority of churches, remained untouched and continued their work.

2. They (the media under the control of the Commie rulers) were negatively minded/ridiculed religion, yes. Harassed? Well only fringe groups like the Jehovah's witnesses, as they refused military service. Mainstream Lutherans weren't harassed. Assaulting and imprisonment? Again, only to fringe groups like the Jehova's witnesses, not to the 99% of the religious people/Lutherans. Refusing military service = imprisonment. Execution? That was rare, you had to be some extremely critically minded priest fighting against the Commie rule every day. Taking children from religious people and placing them in orphanages? Stop smoking what you're smoking.

My father went to church on Sundays during the Soviet occupation as a kid. What happened to him and his parents? Absolutely nothing. There was only one minor thing, the local school's teacher was standing near the church door and wrote down the names of all the students going to church. Then what happened? The behavior mark of the students was lowered. There was "Very good, Good, satisfactory (bad) and not-satisfactory (very bad)". He got "satisfactory" instead of "good" because he went to church, big deal, it had no influence on anything.

I'm usually not rude, but are you retarded? The millions who died in gulags and such, had no relation to religion. It was about social class and ethnicity (Estonians being sent to Siberia and replaced with Russians etc.)

Sources in the Russian Orthodox Church itself claim that as many as fifty million Orthodox believers may have died in the twentieth century from persecution by state atheist communists.

That many people didn't even die in the USSR and it was about persecuting social classes and natives of certain regions (like recently occupied Baltic states and the genocide there).

Your post mostly composes of pure made-up bullshit and you're talking to a historian with a degree who focused on 20th century history. Your emotional BS may fool some average American, but not a historian who has studied the field.

What does the bible say about lying? You should read the bible and then think about your posts.

Thank you for that, however, it appears our friend is not looking for support for faith. He appears to be looking for support for his lack of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and His word.

You thank him for posting lyes and making up stories? Proper Christians are honest people.

Yes, we hate the Soviet Union, but we don't make up stories about extreme persecution that didn't exist.

We shouldn't lie about our enemy even if we hate him. We should always be honest, not hypocrites.

Are you a proper Christian, Thorsson? Do you believe in the Lord Jesus with all your heart? Have you repented from all your sins and turned away from them? Do you love God?

Your water baptism, religious denomination, and nationality do not make you a proper Christian.

Do you have faith in Jesus Christ? Do you know Him?

You're a pharisee.

Matthew 7:1-5

“Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye.

The Pharisees crucified Jesus Christ. They did not ask people if they had a relationship with Him.

Do you truly know God Thorsson? Have you surrendered your life to Him? Or are you playing games?

Do not be afraid to answer the question, my friend. All of us will be judged by God Almighty. If you examine yourself today, it will be profitable to you when you stand to be judged by God Almighty.

Are you ready to give an answer to God today? Do you know for sure, you would go to heaven if you died this hour?
