So I just came from church and the speaker there was teaching on the Judgment Seat of Christ. He got to the Revelations 2:7 where it says,

He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who conquers I will grant to eat of the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.’

My question is, does eternal life come BY eating the tree of life or BY mere faith in Jesus Christ. The latter, as some may think, is not blasphemous. If eternal life is enacted BY eating from the tree of life it is only accessed THROUGH faith in Christ, again

To THE ONE WHO CONQUERS I will GRANT to eat of the tree of life

Those who conquer undoubtedly do so BY faith in Christ and access to the tree is ONLY through that faith.

In Genesis 2:9 it reads,

And out of the ground the LORD God made to spring up every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

I'm sure everyone would agree that if Adam (or Eve) were to eat from the tree of life, they would have lived on earth eternally, never to die. But most would also agree that eating of the tree was through faith in Christ - faith in what God said about the tree. It was a lack of faith that caused them to partake in the knowledge.

So...is eternal life -that which causes the body to live eternally, enabled by the tree of life, granted access BY faith in Jesus Christ's atonement, or Faith alone -the tree is just some sort of symbol or formality??? I would like to know what the purpose of the tree is if you don't agree...

The tree of life had to be guarded until all things come to pass to remove the evil corrupted seed from our souls, so that living for ever will be in obedience and love to our Almighty Yahvah God.

The Tree of Life is the Cross that Jesus Christ hung on and the Fruit is his Body and Blood. In the Holy Eucharist, we can partake of this Fruit of the Tree of Life. It is offered every Sunday in the Orthodox Church of Christ.

Hmm that's interesting, I never thought of it that way. I could see that being the metaphor being used in revelations, but what about Genesis? It would seem that it was a real tree since it is in the context of a garden and Eve could actually eat from the other one. It also seems like it is talking about the same tree in Revelations, as a sort of way of saying God has through history found a way to restore everything back to the natural function in the garden.
