"And many who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake, some to everlasting life, but others to shame and everlasting contempt."

Below, Paul speaks about the same event:

"and I have the same hope in God as these men themselves have, that there will be a resurrection of both the righteous and the wicked."

Will awake = Resurrection

I would offer. The reference to "will awake" is referring to the disembodied spirits of a saint that are asleep and "will awake"

Resurrect. . . one continual = fulfilled on the last day. All those born of the Spirit of Christ rise. Some that had been dead asleep during the work of completion. Others alive here under the Sun the reigning with Christ on that day. The last day . . Time has come to a end . . no more night. The glory of God and the lamb will be the light.

Will awake = Resurrection. It is made up of two executions as two different destinations. Both in the twinkling of the eye. The first execution; "The promise of our new incorruptible bodies" receiving the end of our new born again faith. No longer male and female Jew or Gentile .It is signaled by the promise the old testament saints graves that were opened. Many appeared witnessed by the angels in heaven. The Holy City prepared as His bride the church. The new Jerusalem (Zion)She is not seen. . . under the Sun . The rising is indicated by a earthquake. The outward observable sign along with the rent veil signifying the Holy place as a abomination of desolation is no longer. It served its purpose in that parable restrained with time represented by Kings in Israel .The time of reformation, The pagan foundation of faithless mankind cast into the judgement fire of God . Again. . The "last day" the final trump it is referenced 6 times in John. The double execution in the twinkling of the eye.

The second execution or work of the Spirit on the last day is the working out or execution of the judgement as to the "letter of the law". It (death) would appear to be cast into the judgment fire of God. Never to rise and corrupt to death an entire new creation forever more. The smoke of that death in the new heavens and earth will not be remembered or ever come to mind forever and ever more .

No second trial .No condemnation for those in Christ. The first trial death will continue to work till its end . And not one jot or title removed from it under the Sun . Rest in Christ. The rest of faith as it is written. You could say our mutual spirit of faith as the power of Christ in us . . . .but not of us unless any boast in false empty pride .

2 Corinthians 4:13 We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have "I spoken"; "we" also believe, and therefore speak;

The added understanding to John 3:16 in verse 18 reveals it seems to us another level as to the spiritual understanding of "How" God loved the whole world ..Therefore just what His love did accomplish to as many as the father gave to the Son?

The corruption judgement from the garden of Eden was already set in dying mankind as the wrath of God. . being revealed from heaven. ( Romans 1:18) Mankind experiencing the effects of the letter of the law.

Christ gave some the mutual faith of Christianity to show no condemnation in Christ . He fulfilled the requirement of the letter of the law (death) by his work of faithfulness or labor of love giving us yoked with him, his rest from our own labor .Like

The father and Son working as one .

He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not "is condemned already", because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.John 3:18

Believers, believe God not seen . Unbelievers, do not.

No double jeopardy .No second trial.

How does eternal life differ from immortality; if at all?

The eternal light has no beginning and will never end whereas the immortality is eternal yet has a beginning and will never end.

Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: 1 Tim 6:16

While Paul wrote in Titus 1:2, "In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began" Seeing that he also wrote that by two immutable things by which it is impossible for God to lie, since the eternal has no beginning of existence, nor does it change in nature or form then to even claim to be eternal would require one to lie and say that they have always existed. If can't be done by word then good luck by deed seeing that the eternal dwells in that light which no man can approach unto.

As I previously stated, while the nature of living things which have no beginning of nor end of existence is described as eternal; the nature of living things which have a beginning of existence or who are born are classed as having the mortal nature. Based upon the standard prediction that only living things which have the eternal nature will live within end, the prediction that the life of mortal man will end is one that verify for themselves.

However, the terms life eternal, eternity, everlasting life, life everlasting or immortal are all terms which represent the true gift promised in the scriptures.
