A section where we can post questions and thoughts on streeet evangelism and sharing the gospel with the world..

(rather than theology and meaningless geneologies which lead to quarrels)
 
here are my thoughts on street evangelism. I feel it makes the Christian faith look like weirdos. I am sure you disagree.
 
Well not all Josh. I had a friend die a couple of years ago that was legendary in the Southern California area for street preaching. He had that rare gift that lots of people think they have but few actually really possess: a natural born voice like an angel.

He would pick a corner where a crime wave was occurring and start singing gospel songs. Because his singing was so beautiful, invariably a crowd would gather around him. The police have actually shut down streets and rerouted traffic before because they filled with hundreds and hundreds of people gathering to listen to this man's singing.

Then he would give simple gospel messages of God's love and how God loved them so much that He didn't want to leave them in their current struggles without Him.

Many people have come to Christ due to this man's ministry and very few even know of him because he was so humble even after a book about his life was written a few years ago.

This kind of street preacher does a lot of good.

Plus, quite a few important ministries have arisen from street preachers. Even Victory Outreach started this way with one man and a bullhorn (e.g. Sonny Arguinzoni) in Los Angeles surrounded by a bunch of older Hispanic prayer warrior women.

That said, I hear you though on so many of them today.

Lolol... Sonny would take a bull horn and a group of Mexican Christian senior citizen women and go to the worst parks in Los Angeles and walk around until he found a Hispanic street gang and then preach at them with the bull horn until they surrounded him and then put down the bull horn and talk to them. ROFL!

I don't think that would fly today so much. But it was quite novel in the late 1960's for Hispanic criminals to hear someone preaching to them in Spanish that God loved them too.
 
really??? that street evangelism makes one weird! is that true? tell me about it?
 
There are ways to evangelize and there are ways to not. I was standing on a corner outside Knot's Berry Farm waiting with a crowd for a light. There were several people there 'evangelizing', dirty, overbearing, rude, and in your face. When one got in my face, I said "Dude! while I agree with everything you are saying here, do you realize just how insane you are making us all look?" He answered with was I embarrassed by hearing the name of Jesus, and I said 'no I am not embarrassed by proclaiming the Name of Jesus, I'm embarrassed by you'. The crowd broke into applause and cheers, and the 'evangelists' backed off as the light finally changed.

The best evangelism shows the life to all, and presents the word to those who seek.
 
True that RickyZ. Especially when they carry signs that say 'You're going to burn in hell for eternity' and other like-minded things... lol.

Some of them are SO over the top.

So you WON't burn in hell if you don't turn to Jesus then? :rolleyes:
 
The point here is that fear shouldn't be the motivator to turn to Jesus, love should be. Also, Jesus Christ is far more than just fire insurance.

So according to you taking the Bible seriously is 'deliberately trying to be difficult?' Well, same is true for most people at CC, but that didn't stop you from posting before. ;)

Just a friendly suggestion, no offense, but if you're done with a thread, just don't post in it anymore. No need for drama.


 
For the record: I like the suggestion the OP made, since I'm envolved in street preaching myself.
