I heard one tonight actually. From the soundtrack of 'When Harry Met Sally', one of my favorite movies actually, as performed by Harry Connick Jr, "But Not For Me", Written by the Gershwin Brothers... here are the words;
They're writing songs of love
But not for me
A lucky star's above
But not for me
With love to lead the way
I've found more clouds of gray
Than any Russian play
Could guarantee
I was a fool to fall
And get that way
Hi ho! Alas!
And also, lack a day!
Although I can't dismiss
The memory of her kiss
I guess
She's not for me
It all began so well
But what an end
This is the time
A fellow needs a friend
When every happy plot
Ends with a the marriage knot
And there's
No knot for me.
In my loneliness with Summer coming on, these words resonate a chord within my heart. Try as I might, I can't dismiss this emptiness. God is all fulfilling and fills so much of my heart and yet there's this place that's woman-sized and I can't seem to dismiss it. Spring is coming on and so many events are available in Pittsburgh, many for little or no cost, and I've no one to share them with, no one to snuggle with, no one to kiss in the moonlight as I lose myself in her beautiful eyes that reflect the stars above. Do you ever feel like that? Like this piece of yourself is missing somehow? In Eastern Europe there's this myth that speaks of everyone's soul being torn in half with one half given to another person, and you can't find true happiness unless you find your other half. I am not sure I believe that, yet there remains something to be said for that person that brings out the best in you. For us guys especially, this gift lies with the ladies. They are God endowed with a nurturing nature that mostly brings out the best in any person they come in contact with, especially men. They provide an opportunity together to find homeostasis. How about you, you ever hear a song that summed up your mood and thoughts at a given moment, or a theme song of your life so to speak? I welcome your feedback. -Bob
