I step outside during the rain,
remembering the days gone past.
I listen to the rain, recalling those days at camp.
I observe counselors through a
cabin porch screen door, across the path to the cabin, and to the picnic table that stood under a light.
I think back to how the youthful senses responded then, and how my older self responds now.
I take a step back, on to a soft mat, and recognize the stillness of the morning rain.
Or, rather, I take in how the only active presence is God in the rain.
Then a phrase comes to mind, an unshakeable one.
"Everyone sleeps sometime."
When I was asleep, God watched over me.
When the men and women and children of different faith and no faith at all sleep...
God is at watch, and He is at work. Like the countless animals of the earth disappear in the rain,
the men and women are hidden in their homes, even if it is just a cardboard box.
Sure, people have nights, and some have seasons of sleeplessness.
But we all have this in common... we will sleep again.
And God, like before our birth, God is watching over us.
That, folks, that is what i experienced today.
