hi, from 1Samuel i was reading a story of Saul when he was rejected by God and verse 14 says "the spirit of the Lord departed from from Saul and the evil spirit from God troubled him". can someone explain to me this evil spirit from God cause as far as i know God has nothing to do with evil.
First you must understand that spirits are angels;
Heb.1
[7] And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire.
So that means that Satan and ALL of the angels that followed him are spirits as well;
Rev.12
[9] And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
Now once Satan and his angels were cast out of heaven that left only the following;
Heb.1
[13] But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool?
[14] Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?
So what do we have here? We have angels that are spirits. And of those spirits we have those that were cast out of heaven with Satan and those that remained in heaven with God.
Thus we have 'evil spirits' and 'holy spirits'!
But ALL spirits do the will of the Lord....even Satan and his angels!
So in the story of Saul....when the 'holy spirit' left, an 'evil spirit' over took him. This was all in God's plan so that David could be brought before Saul and become the future king he would be.
1 Sam.16
[14] But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him.
[15] And Saul's servants said unto him, Behold now, an evil spirit from God troubleth thee.
[16] Let our lord now command thy servants, which are before thee, to seek out a man, who is a cunning player on an harp: and it shall come to pass, when the evil spirit from God is upon thee, that he shall play with his hand, and thou shalt be well.
[23] And it came to pass, when the evil spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took an harp, and played with his hand: so Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him.
Let's look at another instance when God allowed an 'evil spirit' to work;
1 Kings 22
[20] And the LORD said, Who shall persuade Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramoth-gilead? And one said on this manner, and another said on that manner.
[21] And there came forth a spirit, and stood before the LORD, and said, I will persuade him.
[22] And the LORD said unto him, Wherewith? And he said, I will go forth, and I will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, Thou shalt persuade him, and prevail also: go forth, and do so.
[23] Now therefore, behold, the LORD hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these thy prophets, and the LORD hath spoken evil concerning thee.
ALL spirits, both 'holy' AND 'evil', do the work that is needed by God. In the case of Saul....God allowed an 'evil spirit' to over take him with the outcome, David being brought before Saul to eventually become the king of Israel.
