Verse 34. The "light" represents that which is right. The "dark" is that which is evil. The "body" represents the inner or new man. The "eye" is what is taken in. The word "single" tells us that it will only allow in, that which is right, and thereby filling the whole body with light. (Acceptable things in the sight of God). When our eye, or eye gate is evil, then dark parts are making shadows on that light. Verse 36 tells us that when we make honourable decisions, then our state of rightness, or light, is without error from bad choices and shines brightly inside. KJV.

The light of our eye is just that. What we perceive as true. The light of our eye can be obstructed by logs. The log prevents us from seeing our true selves. It darkens the light of our eye. If the light of our eye is darkness.....what a darkness it is Jesus says. Because to the one the eye belongs to the darkness is truth about himself and others. The classic trading truth for a lie..

Uncompromised Focus yields pure results. Following Christ as a sideline yields corrupt results. You cannot serve God and money. Etc.

Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary

11:29-36 Christ promised that there should be one sign more given, even the sign of Jonah the prophet; which in Matthew is explained, as meaning the resurrection of Christ; and he warned them to improve this sign. But though Christ himself were the constant preacher in any congregation, and worked miracles daily among them, yet unless his grace humbled their hearts, they would not profit by his word. Let us not desire more evidence and fuller teaching than the Lord is pleased to afford us. We should pray without ceasing that our hearts and understandings may be opened, that we may profit by the light we enjoy. And especially take heed that the light which is in us be not darkness; for if our leading principles be wrong, our judgment and practice must become more so.

Gill's Exposition of the Entire Bible
The light of the body is the eye,.... The Vulgate Latin and all the eastern versions read "the light of thy body is thine eye". The sense is, that as the eye gives light, to the body, and the several members of it, by which they are guided and directed; so the understanding is the light of the soul, and the guide to all the powers and faculties of it;
therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light: as when the eye is free from vicious humours, and its sight is clear, the whole body reaps the advantage of it, and is perfectly illuminated by it; so when the eye of the understanding is opened and enlightened by the Spirit of God, into the truths of the Gospel, and a single regard is had unto them, and to the glory of Christ in them, the whole soul is filled with light, joy, and comfort:
but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness; as when the eye of the body is attended with any bad humours that hinder the sight, all the members of it are in darkness; so, when the understanding is darkened through the blindness and ignorance there is in men, with respect to Gospel truths, all the powers and faculties of the soul are in a very miserable and uncomfortable condition. The 35th and 36th verses are not in Beza's most ancient copy.

These are all excellent answers. On a side note, the Bible does not use the word for candle and so the versions that do (e.g. KJV) are not accurate, as lamp oil, a liquid, was used to produce light during the time of the first century Christians.

I think it means that good eyes hypothetically, superficially and naturally and technically, generates good persona.
