Therefore,son of man prophesy and say to Gog. This is what the sovereign Lord says. In that day,when my people
Israel are living in safety, will you not take notice of it? You will come from your place in the far north you and many nations
with you all of them riding on horses a great horde a mighty army. You will advance against my people Israel like a cloud that covers the land. In those days to come O Gog I will bring you against my land so that the nations may know me when I show myself holy through you before their eyes. Ezekiel 38 14-16

This is what the sovereign Lord says---In my Zeal and fiery wrath I declare that time there will be a great earthquake in the land of Israel. The fish of the sea the birds of the air the beasts of the field every creature that moves along the ground
and all the people on the face of the earth will tremble at my presence. The mountains will be overturned, the cliffs will crumble and every wall will fall to the ground, I will summon a sword against Gog on all my mountains declares the sovereign
Lord. Every mans sword will be against his brother. I will execute judgement upon him with plague and bloodshed. I will pour down torrents of rain, hailstones and burning sulphur on him and on his troops and on the many nations with him. And so I will make myself known in the sight of many nations. Then they will know that I am the Lord. Ezekiel 38 19-23

And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, and shall go out to deceive the nations
which are in the four corners of the earth Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saintsabout and the beloved city anf fire came down from God and devoured them. And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever. Revelation 20 7 - 10

When do these events occur? Do they happen during the tribulation or at the end of the Millenium? Who actually is Gog?
Is it Russia as many think or someone else. If these events happen at the tribulation period or near it how come they
all pop up again at the end of the millennium when God has already destroyed them? There are many questions regarding these passages and as people are buzzing with the news about Russia in Syria I thought it useful to discuss this subject.

The Gog in Ezekiel was the house of Gugu king of Lydia who with an alliance invaded Israel as Ezekiel prophesied. The only time that Israel has been a land of undefended cities was after the Exile. It is certainly NOT that today. The land of Magog was in Lydia. Alternately Magog may be a cypher for Babylon with BBL becoming MGG (going up one letter and reversing the letters. This was a standard cypher in ancient times witnessed to elsewhere. Gugu would have led a coalition including Babylon.

During the intertestamental period Gog and Magog (by then NOT Gog of Magog) became symbolic for any powerful enemy of God.

Gog and Magog in Revelation indicate the beast and false prophet with 20.8 with 19.19.

Rv 20 is subsequent vision to Rev 17-19 and briefly recapitulates what has been said in Rev 9-19..

Just take a recently published Bible atlas and all of them will show you that Magog, Gomer, Mesech and Tubal are all properly in Asia Minor, which is modern day Turkey. Remember, Gog is called the chief (rosh) prince of Mesech and Tubal.

The Hebrew word 'rosh' has nothing to do with the English translation for Russia. Rosh is a Hebrew word that has been used well over 800 times throughout the Old Testament and every time its meaning is 'chief, head, biggest, greatest'. Does 'Rosh Hashanah' ring a bell? It means 'Head of the year'. Apart from this mistranslated word of the Hebrew 'rosh' into 'Russia' (remember, all Russians speak English, right?) there is not a single reason to assume that Russia is Magog.

Besides this, Gog himself is attacked from the north and the east. How can this be Russia? There's nothing north of Russia but the arctic. If we look at a modern Bible atlas we see that Magog is in Asia Minor which today of course is Turkey. Magog will be attacked from the north. Russia will attack Turkey, period.

But that's "my" interpretation of it. Don't use google by searching "What is magog?" They will all tell different stories and theories. Just take any Bible atlas and your eyes will read the answer in plain, simple language.
