I wouldn't assume to know what page were on until I got to know your point of view better. I was sharing my thoughts about the ministries F F Bosworth was involved in.

Very true. Nothing new but truth has to be shared to combat what is really not the gospel.

I once thought the same until studying theology and why there are so many differing views. Typically they come from either good of bad Hermeneutics
or Exegetics.

( I just kind of wonder why a person will start an op when it seems they actually already have an opinion on the question they are asking.

That's fine. But that seems to sometimes become the mo of the person starting the thread. Throw a question out there and then go back and forth with responders.)

It is a study habit of mind. To test my studies or beliefs through debate. That is the only true fire way to know have you really thought through the theological belief. I take peoples comments weigh them against my studies and then test their belief to see how well it holds up. Sometimes playing devils advocate to see others perspectives.

Well I'm more laid back as an OP, I don't worry about derailment. But yes everyone operates differently and there are many Christians who do not know how to debate with maturity.

I agree. We all have to answer for our actions online or offline. That's probably the number one negative review this site receives is the environment of the BD forum.

The page I'm on isn't technically about the gifts. It is the abuse of healing ministries. Abuse of the gift of healing. That abuse falls into a newer psychological term called spiritual abuse.
Well, I thought I shared what I thought? Maybe not

Well yes there are. And as many personalities attached to all of that as those who share their views. I have studied quite a bit myself.

Well if that works for you (not trying to be offensive) I would just not attach as much import to folks in a forum but we are not all the same. I would not play devil's advocate.....things get messed up enough around here

Well laid back is not what I was getting at.

Well it seems you are catching up. Spiritual abuse is not a new term as you. Counsellors have been kept busy with people who are wounded for many years now. :)

Your not offensive, I respect your opinion. As a layman I must rely on what I have. The only scholarly access I have are online debates that have been recorded or scholarly books I read.

I suppose laid back is subjective. Maybe just respectful.

The psychology field of spiritual abuse is only about 30 or 40 years old.

New in the science field which not too long ago we were still drilling into peoples brains or shock therapy.

But yes unfortunately spiritual abuse has been going on since the early church as to why many of the New Testament letters address false teachers and their harm.

Let's not confuse psychoanalysis with biblical counselling and who is the we? Were you drilling into people's brains or using shock therapy lol !? Of course not. Address spiritual problems with spiritual authority...ie scripture and whatever gifts God has enabled you with in order to deal with 'spiritual abuse.'

Frankly I would hope people who cannot understand how that works, would leave it to those who do. More harm than good can ensue ie inducing guilt or even fear. Why take Freudian methods into a spiritual problem?

I have found it very helpful to know more about the physical because we are made up as triune beings. Spiritual, physical and mental. All 3 must be addressed because often all 3 are affected.

I have counselled and taught among other things so I will disagree with some of what you are saying and agree with others. No point in comparing notes as I do not believe our methodology is on par.

Thanks

I'm researching the teachings of F.F. Bosworth and his book “Christ the Healer”

He basically teaches that divine healing is a promise of God so God's answer to healing is always yes and amen to the promises of Christ.

But I find this contradicting. Not that in Christ we do not see physical healing but to say it is always God's will doesn't take into account other scriptures.

What do you think?
I had a Mormon friend left next door and one day asked me to come over to talk about debate things. So him and his wife where their and he goes in the back brings out this stack of books. I said are all those written by Mormons? To that he said "yes". There was nothing to talk about. Do you see? It depends on where you ask. Those that doubt or do not believe in gifts and healing believe they are gone now, so then many things Bosworth and Wigglesworth and others. A disagreement on some doctrine for some is called "fraud". I kindly disagree yet I understand what they see....they do not believe.

So the extreme would be when say....take "John MacArthur" and being extreme and knowing I am right then John MacArthur is a fraud and a false prophet. I can see this yet its a lie. MacArthur is a very wise man and of God he just does not believe in the gifts things like this. There are some forums where he does get made fun talked about no in a loving way like Smith Wigglesworthm Bosworth, Hagin on and on.

So I look at the good first. I look at what they say is backed up in the word. I do not look a any through my eyes first as in my personal belief. Of one these great men of God long gone said in this huge meeting "there are so many different doctrines here we disagree on but not on the one that matters". YES! The one that matters Yeshua/Jesus Christ came in the flesh died on the cross for the worlds sin was buried rose the 3rd day seated at the right hand of the Father is the only way to the Father. <--this is what I always look for first. They are family I will not TOUCH my family. I will not toss them under a bus disown them cast them aside. Their Jesus is the exact same as I believe you believe in. Fact "some" have the fruits "some" have none just words.

So yes from what I know he was a man of God and God used him greatly. So asking about someone that walks in faith in a group where some do not believe in gifts healing with others that do well your gonna get mixed answers. Its the ones that talk in love.. where even though they might now believe in healing gifts but you see JESUS all over them.. I LOVE THOSE! So just look to see if what anyone says is backed up by the word.

Yes. I want to hear the arguments one would make to favor or disagree with his theology.

So if it is not backed by the Word then what? Either we can know the truth or not. The only truth we can agree on shouldn't just be the death and resurrection of Jesus.

Of one these great men of God long gone said in this huge meeting "there are so many different doctrines here we disagree on but not on the one that matters". YES! That is one that matters but there are doctrines that can lead people away from the faith in Jesus. The number of people who have been negatively impacted by fake healing ministries is depressing. All in the name of Jesus.

They are family I will not TOUCH my family. I will not toss them under a bus disown them cast them aside. Their Jesus is the exact same as I believe you believe in. Fact "some" have the fruits "some" have none just words.
If family hurts family then they are not family.

So yes from what I know he was a man of God and God used him greatly.
I'm not sure about that. He seems more like a conman.

So asking about someone that walks in faith in a group where some do not believe in gifts healing with others that do well your gonna get mixed answers.
That's fine, if he can be defended I'd like to see what he is defended with. Especially in scripture.

Its the ones that talk in love.. where even though they might now believe in healing gifts but you see JESUS all over them.. I LOVE THOSE! So just look to see if what anyone says is backed up by the word.
And not backed by the Word is why I feel the need to make the case against his book that is being used by a local pastor.

A lot of people aren't familiar with many of the figures from the late 19th and 20th century Christianity; they fly under the radar. This era in history is unknown to a great many people. Men like Frank Sanford, John Alexander Dowie, John G. Lake, Charles Fox Parham, and F. F. Bosworth. But there are so many more.

These are the people who shaped Christianity into what it is today. People invoke them and claim all kinds of great and wonderous things about them and no one knows any better. However, 99% of them were simple grifters, criminals and conmen (and women). People would do themselves a big favor if they started learning about this period and the "ministers" who haunted it.
