I have most of my friends on there due to having moved and we talk on there and such, which is nice, I thought. If they're on messenger theirs calling as well as voice messages and the list goes on. Really easy to stay in contact. But the overwhelming depression made it to where I didn't even care about anyone and deactivated it and slept for hours along with other depressing things. Just a day of deactivating my account I felt so free. I just reactivated it an hour or so ago and am as depressed as I was a day ago. Weird I thought

Does anyone else experience this?

What do you think it is?

They've done studies on this.

Facebook usually does one of two things.

1: Depresses people, because they compare themselves to others. (What they have, jobs, kids, spouse, vacations, house)
2: Gives an ego boost to people because they have a better (job, kids, spouse, vacations, house)

I know of two people who go on there just to cheer themselves up, by seeing how depressed everyone else is.
They say everyone does this on social networks. Subconsciously.

Google the studies. Social networks are technically antisocial networks.

Now if you'll excuse me, l have to go update my status.

Do you have something to tell us?

Yeah, l'm going to go update my FB status to : l don't like Facebook , it makes my ego depressed. :)

Okay, good. I don't like Facebook either. I would much rather be on here or on Skype

Well, now you know WHY I follow your comments so religiously................

i had a FB account for a few months to see pics of my family far away.
deactivated it after i had to look at 3,726,095 pics of people's food.

you're not alone. :)

I deleted my accounts there (and other places). Deactivation do not deleted the things I disliked from the things I have seen there.

CC is somewhat better than that "social" life and several moderators (and members) pay attention to evil contend our eyes could not like to see.

What "depressed" me it wasn´t witnessing pictures of my family (my daugther goofed herself with some pics or my sons or their friends) but those I loved, those I was engaged emotionally and physically (to avoid mentioning sex) who were wooed at online (or having their "secrets" love affairs) another places I wasn´t aware of.

If a person wants to get Christian attentions CC is a better place than FB, unless I wanted to promote or sell myself as a gregarious image or as a public being, which I am not.

Social networks are brilliant if you really do not care about social networks.

They are for observations, stupid one off liners, people to share common focused interest.
If you think it is about saying how fantastic you are, or you are going to find out something no other medium will give you, you will be disappointed.

It was good to see how people I had not known for years were doing, but in reality, it was best just kept that way.
The social networks are also a place of lies, creating impressions of things that make people go wow, when the actual real life is so what. If you play the game you loose, but if you share in peoples experiences, you gain.

The other problem with text messaging, it is not the same as face to face, or spending time with people.
So use it where it plays a role, not as an end in itself. That is my words of un wisdom, God bless

Someone in here reminded me the un-friending issue... There was a time when some ads were sent by using "applications" for you to see who "unfriended" you.

I don´t know how I did to AVOID those notifications: PPL already know who are they actual friends, but advertizers used it to get some clicks on their "likes" and it was annoying (for me) those days.

If a person do not pay attention to you, you already know who is who, but kids (like my daughter) are spoiled by those tricky means and EMOTIONAL ADDICTION.

When depression comes, you know something additive is not giving you "pleasure".

I'll post this again since another Facebook thread was started by me.

Basically i I don't have a FB anymore because of the drama AND people telling me what to say, and not to say, and of course the drama. I just felt in the end also it was getting boring and nothing was going on. Anyway, I'm totally done with Facebook.

Just my opinion: since you're feeling depressed maybe you should deactivate it, wait the 14 day period for the deletion period, and NOT create a new one. It will make you depressed again. Maybe stick to CC and hang with us believers. Again, this is just my opinion.

I wouldn't be caught dead (or alive :p ) on Facebook. It's the most ridiculous thing ever created.

Depends on each person's circumstances, but I can't stand it because even though I know nobody has a perfect life, there are so many people that get on there to ha-ha about what they have or where they are going, etc. I live paycheck to paycheck and have about the most boring life a human could live. (money isn't everything but it sure is nice to have some extra sometimes) I think the final straw for me was seeing people posting a picture of their plate of food in the restaurant they were eating at. I rarely even have the money for fast food.

Have I read well this: "It's the most ridiculous thing I ever created." :P

Particularly when users gave them perpetual "rights" to use those contends... When I read THEIR conditions I knew I tricked myself (although I know that tendency to be goofed at).

The one and only blog entry I have at the moment here on CC touches on why you may feel the way you do, OP. So hoping you get over that hump, though. Depression is an uphill battle (and Facebook is a downward spiral).

FB should not be depressing if you know how to control it. I have friends that were constantly posting American politics, both far left and far right. At first, I read all the memes and other propaganda, thinking I might learn something about politics. Then I realized what I had learned is that there are a lot of extremists, and that has nothing to do with me. So I unfollowed those people, both left and right.

Then there was an atheist, with the nastiest ungodly posts. I like her as a person, and we chat all the time, but I unfollowed her main page before I had to unfriend her. It has been a gradual process, weeding out the people who have unfollowed me, and post garbage, but a much nicer page to visit.

I also have some secret groups, where a lot goes on that is not visible from the main pages. That is where I can do counseling and support, and be encouraged. One group, I have never met a single person. (Like CC!) But I consider them some of my closest friends, and I have known them for years.

Then there are church members from my last church, who act as if my moving was actually me dying. They never acknowledge my existance. It really hurts, because some of those people I was close to for 10 years. I'm still deciding what to do with those people.

So you need to pare down the posts, and use FB as a witness to Christ. I pass on Bible verses, and very occasionally write an actual post of what is going on in my life. Not necessarily to brag - when I broke my wrist last summer I posted, and people seemed to come out of the woodwork to offer me condolences. Then there are the pictures of my grandchildren which my children and their wives post. I grab those and put them in my Iphoto as fast as I can. You can never have too many pictures of your grandchildren.

As for the OP, if it is really depressing you, then you need to get out. Social media is not a necessity, FB wasn't even around for most people 10 years ago. Just come to CC and you will hopefully find better fellowship, fun, and maybe even some learning and growing.

This is a good idea, but impossible due to the long distance friendships I have on there. I moved from TN and made friends in other countries, as well as some of my friends and fam live in other states. FB is how I stay in touch with these people....

I'm pretty sure Facebook is PAGAN.................

(for some an inside joke, for others...........eh, :) )

If you wanted to, you could write a group message explaining to your family that since Facebook is depressing you you feel like you're ready to delete your account. No ones holding you back. Not even your family. You're only holding yourself back. But, if you want to be depressed cause of FB, then fine. Your choice.
