Heavenly Father,
Have mercy on me, a sinner. I believe in you and that your word is true. I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of the living God and that he died on the cross so that I may now have forgiveness for my sins and eternal life.
I believe in my heart that You, Lord God, raised Him from the dead. Please Jesus forgive me, for every sin I have ever committed or done in my heart, cleanse me from all iniquity, please Lord Jesus forgive me and come into my heart as my personal Lord and Savior today. I need you to be my Father, Friend Lord and Master. I believe you are good and have all power and authority. I submit to you alone and ask you to enlighten my heart and mind and give me understanding and wisdom. I trust you and turn away from evil. I also choose to forgive others, because I do not want evil from my past to affect my new life with you. I want good relations with people.

I give you my life and ask you to take full control from this moment on; I pray fill me with your love and wisdom and baptise me with the Holy Spirit to teach and guide and comfort and help me allways. help me cope with life now and guide me to the life you want me to have for your honour. deliver me from all evil and let Your will be done on earth and in my life, as it is done in heaven. provide for me safety, food and shelter, good friends and Help me see myself in the loving way you see me. keep me from from deception and temptation. Take away all fear and condemnation and doubt. give me faith. I pray this in the name of Jesus Christ and receive you into my life and accept forgiveness and love and all other gifts you choose to give me. Amen. so be it.
 
There is no biblical justification for suggesting a prayer as a means of salvation for a sinner. There is no such command or example in the New Testament. Try reading through the book of Acts and see what was commanded and exemplified.

i Completely agree, jesus said repent from your sins/bornagain and be bathtise and believe in him!
 
I believe you have to ask Jesus to come into your heart, wouldn't that be considered a prayer?
 
1 John 1:9 we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
John 14:6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Psalm 51:10 Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

Sounds like the making of a sinners prayer to me.
 
If you don't ask for forgiveness (that is pray), how do you ever receive forgiveness? I can't believe that such men of God as Dr. Charles Stanley, Franklin Graham, et al have been getting it wrong all these years.

But it's still a good thing to do. There's nothing iv the bible about churches like we have it but that doesn't make it wrong

I agree with shekaniah. Are others saying you shouldnt pray for a sinner or there isn't a prayer for sinners. Just asking.

I think others are saying there's no set prayer for sinners to pray to be saved. Salvation and how it comes about for the sinner is far more complicated than a simple prayer of belief. For some people belief comes in a process, for some it hits all at once, and some have to be told the same message over and over before they get it.

For me, I don't think that a "salvation prayer" is a one fits all thing. Certain truths of the Christian faith comes in a different order for different people. Some realize they need to repent before they realize they need Jesus to save them and vice-versa.

We need forgiveness, and God knows our every need before we even ask (pray). Could this just be a formality to pray for forgiveness? Because God knows our heart and our obedience ultimately means a lot more than words said at one point in time.

claims by prayer we are forgiven
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9)

claims by repentance we are forgiven
“Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord.” (Acts 3:19)

Though I myself ask to be forgiven through prayer, I repent from my sins abstaining from doing them any further. I just think the act of repentance is what God cares about, whether we ask for forgiveness as a formality or through necessity. Feel free to correct me if I'm missing something.
 
If you believe though, the sinners prayer is just something that follows if you really meant it. Sinners prayer is not a set of magical words that when spoken, save you. What should be facebooked should be the gospel. If they truly believe, then they would naturally come to Jesus in some sort of prayer and repent because they now see how they were wrong.

If you do something wrong and later come to see what you did really was wrong, you come back and confess it and say you're sorry. It just comes naturally eventually if you really feel what you did was wrong and want to be forgiven by whoever. So why do we need to post a prayer for others to follow if they should just do this naturally after realizing they were wrong for so long? You don't need to pray this word for word and I think the Lord would rather have it come from the heart. And those seeking and searching, God will guide them till they realize this... It's not a off the cuff decision and then pray and poof... all done good to go... someone like that usually just keeps living the same way under the guise he thinks he's saved cause he said some magical prayer. It didn't come from the heart though.
