every time i go to my small group bible study we start off good and nice but every time we get taken off topic but stupid bs
like abortion law,gay marriage, Christians being persecuted, bla bla bla....

ya there important issues but really i'm getting pissed that everyone tends to focus more on that small thing than looking at the big picture

woah no need to get pissed at young people man these small stuff r big topics to them so corse they wana talk bout it. cool it and be glad of there intrest. i dont mean to sound mean or anything im just saying...

i know i know its just that its every time we get together and i can litterally feel the hate in the room i try and steer it away but its just a lot more about the politics than the book to them and it hurts and upsets me i know there good people and good christians but they just get lost in the moment i'm starting to feel that Christians today are caught up on the causes instead of living like the lord spreading intentional love and just accepting everyone knowing god will fix the rest

this generation is messed up and misguided. they talk bout it with u there. ur job is to guide them in the discusion and not shy away from topics. u have to teach them the right from the wrong. but thats only what i think anyway

You think murdering the unborn is a small thing?
Gay marriage that deliberately goes against Gods plan a small thing?
Christians being killed due to their faith a small thing?

So whats a serious issue to you?

I'm guessing, a focused Bible study group.

Give the young Christians a chance to learn and grow. Honestly you don't sound very mature by having a go at younger Christians and in not saying that to condemn or put you down in any way. If your after a more mature discussion or more 'meat' how about trying to find another group? Or maybe politely voice your concern in the group?

You say that as if there's nothing else he should be concerned about and because you have a heavy weight on your heart because of these morality issues. I'm disgusted by animal abuse and discrimination which are in fact things that are condoned in the Bible at certain points, there's also plenty of times where God has blessed people for murdering infants and murdering their brothers shortly after the law came.

We've all got different hierarchy's of morality but yours isn't more credible or righteous than mine or his.
Don't discredit him for that.

It sounds to me like you want to just love and accept these kids, but you have to understand that these are big issues that they are not going to cease to answer. There is hate in religion, there is hate in Christianity and hate coming towards the Christian religious values from the world— that's something you have to deal with.
Don't try to love them regardless of them annoying you, if you don't feel like you are already capable of loving them unconditionally then you're not cut out for it and you need to find a way to come to terms with the fact that they're asking these questions. They matter to them.
You also need to remember that they're not subject to agree with your answers, and your answers aren't necessarily correct either. But you need to figure it out with them, and you're allowed to have an opinion. Just remember that they're allowed to have theirs as well.

But seriously, to a certain extent, I see where you're coming from. Keeping a focused Bible study is hard. There should be time for discussion but there are different times to discuss other issues (but they're very important - not BS, as you say). Make time for each, and it doesn't hurt to just ask people to get back on track. As for the deviations, sometimes they're God moments, a blessing in disguise. Try not to get frustrated but let your Bible study group know your thoughts, using a loving manner. Or maybe, if you want more depth, just find another Bible study group. It's your choice.

Where did I say he shouldnt be concerned about anything else? I mentioned those 3 things because he did. Had he mentioned animal abuse I would have mentioned that too or anything else.

Also, where did I say what I thought was more credible or righteous? Where exactly? The things he mentioned are big things because it deals with ones eternal life, but never once did I say anything you accuse me of. Careful how you say things.

Well, it might be more productive if folks started off studying what it means to exhibit a Christ like attitude. Then maybe they could move on to the concept of treating others with Christian love, fellowship, and respect.

In all honesty, I wouldn't last 10 seconds in such a study group if the language displayed in the OP were also displayed in the study commentary. Looked it up, didn't find it in His Word.

Now, to each his own, but seriously?

Well, it's good to vent, but I believe that when any group of people enter into a Study of God's Word, it is very important to enter in with the proper spirit. I can certainly understand how a Bible Study could become so frustrating if every Study ended in a debate/dispute, goodness, just read through all the threads on the Bible Study Forum here on CC.

:)

Anyway, I will pray that your group overcomes their earthly selves, and enters into their next Study in a spirit of worship and unity, exhibiting Christian love and fellowship.

God bless
