I am not meaning in the single but to really learn to LOVE everyone with all of your heart...or as the question states particularly everyone of the opposite sex, if you have no marriage or sexual intentions...

Someone once told me this was immoral...even as I told her it was what Christian love demands...so I wanted to ask if it was immoral to fall in love with everyone...I am not meaning have sex or marry everyone...I have done neither of those, and don't really see that happening...but is it immoral, aka playing with a girl's heart to fall in love with every girl?!?

She drew a distinction between romantic and family love...and thought Christian love fell into the latter kind...whereas I believe in romantic Christian love...which though it gets confusing also makes all of life more exciting as a whole...even if it leads to 'troubling' situations...

God bless and may you fall in love with everyone in the best way possible...even as Christ loves us

i agree, sam... loving in a brotherly/sisterly kind of way isn't weird, but once someone crosses that line, there's a risk of playing with that person's emotions... and that is not good! But as far as loving in a pure, Christian way... i don't see anything wrong with it.

exactly. And is it really love if you fall in love with every girl you see. I would think not

i think its just self-love... when someone says "i love you" it shouldn't be because of how that person makes them feel but because of choice that was made. Anyways, that's just my philosophy on love - take it or leave it.

Thats very well said! and i agree 100 percent. You should not base weather or not you love someone on some feeling you get in your stomach when you see that person or of how they make you ''feel'' Feelings come and go.

So can you 'fall in Christian love' with everyone or not?

A lot of Christians like to divide love in order to say that Christ demands that we love everyone...but it does not say we must LIKE everyone...like a weasel weaseling its way out of truly loving people...and then they can harbor hate in their hearts and say they just don't like some people...and there is no sin in that...but that is a Pharisee if ever there was one...

But I know that Christian love includes 'like' and goes further to say 'love as Christ loves you'...or at least throw all of your heart after trying to do this...

See, I do not know about 'falling in love' with everyone or even if I as a guy fall in love with every girl, if that is immoral or wrong...Would you rather me care for you or not??? If you would rather me not care for you, then you should not care if I do...but IF I truly learn to care deeply for everyone...what can there possibly be wrong in that?

Are we, as Christians, called to truly care for and love only one person??? I see this leading to a very worldly Christianity indeed...

The Lord's love flow through you all

how is leading to troubling situations exciting?? I have to be honest reading all of these posts about this love and that love made me feel like my head was gonna explode. Why do you have so many levels of love????????

Ok...here's my 2 cents worth......I feel very strongly that there is a definite difference between loving someone and being IN lovewith someone. Loving someone as your neighbor, or sister/brother in Christ is one thing. Being IN love with someone is "till death do us part". It means a committment, and a companionship that goes well beyond "neighborly" love. On the other hand though, it doesn't mean you love this one or that one less exactly...just differently, because each person you have a relationship with (be it friend, co-worker, family menber....etc) is different, as is the relationships you have with each of them, themselves. As for *falling in love* with someone......well..that implies stars in your eyes and bricks in your head, to me!!! hahahaha!! JK--kinda What I mean is, *falling in love* just seems to say that you fell....or just completely lost all focus on anything and everything else but your love for this other person...and that to me is not sensible. Truly being IN love with someone needs more than hero worship....which is what I read into *falling* in love.....I hope I made this make sense......if not, I am sure someone will take me up on it!!! hahhaha feel free!!! much love to allllllll........

well said! So many people base love off of feelings and emotions, when those things are empty.

I have thought about what you said a lot nanabean...

And I think "falling in love" is a correct even Christian expression...I think what it shows is that you are letting love lead you and not your mind or your senses or what you see...I am not so sure 'love is a choice' as a few people want to suggest...or even a covenant, nor a feeling, but it is I don't know a 'deep sense of caring'...and I really do not see how this could not be universally demanded of Christian lives...I did NOT mean stars in the eyes or bricks on the head...more a sense of truly being there for and caring for the other...without any demands or expectations of marriage or sex...

I think prescribing to a courting or dating ideal for Christians are both wrong...as they take the focus off of God and have Christians perhaps living more 'moral' earthly lives but still earthly lives...

I Stand behind my decision that it is not wrong to love everyone deeply...and I think the church's and each individual member's failure to do this is what causes the church to be ineffective...atleast thats my outlook on it...and if you disagree, you are probably wrong...lol

And May the Lord fill you all with love.

I think your seriously confussed... you should never just let love lead you, because love is a feeling... so basically that feeling is leading you... I highly doubt any girl would ever date you seeming as how you ''fall in love with every girl you meet'' and no falling in love i do not believe that is the correct christian expression...... im sure your gonna think whatever you want to regardless though

I know that love is not a feeling...though love does have the effect of arousing deep feelings--for example if someone you knew got in a car accident and you loved them and you knew they were hurt, a sense of hurt may be aroused in you because they got hurt...but that is only ''because you love' and not love itself...

I assure you IT IS NOT A FEELING leading me...I love despite my feelings...despite warnings...despite everything really...despite the other person not caring whatsoever...or even them hating me...

Though I actively 'try' to fall in love with every girl I meet, I am not sure I succeed...

I think falling gives the same sense as 'brokeness' or that we find Christ in our own brokenness...So just as you could say Christians are broken in love, I believe you could say we 'fall in love'...but perhaps that sense of going down is what offends some...the thought came of Shel Silverstein's book Falling Up, perhaps Christians fall up in love...but it still means the same thing, through love we are carried and cared for...and it is this selfless love that is Christian and not marriage...

Strange thoughts...

Not seriously confused, but seriously loving--thats what I do...lol

Lord, spread your love around us;
let it be our protection and direction...

I still believe that it is not immorral to "fall in love" with everyone.

As I have stated in different threads, I think this distinction between 'those who are more important to me' and 'those who are sidenotes' are a grave injustice to Christianity.

I also wonder over that commandment Jesus said was the second greatest "love your neighbor as yourself."

I have to question if many people would like to "censor" that word love and say something like "be considerate to your neighbor as yourself."

We have help on this commandment from the Lord. In a parable, the Lord explains what he meant by neighbor. He pointed to the "good samaritan." Samaritans were/are hated by Jewish people. And yet here is a story where a samaritan is the only one to truly understand who the "true" neighbor is. The one who cares and looks after the wounded man as he would himself.

I have told many girls I love them--NOT that I wanted to marry them or have sex with them or anything rediculous like that...but because I think they truly need to be refreshed and protected by true, authentic sincere Christian love, so that they do not fall prey to the counterfeit ways that guys try to lead them astray. The reason I say this is because I too feel the need to be deeply loved by Christian girls/women and if I do not know where else am I to look but to the ungodly women?!? I say this bluntly because I think its the exact thought that every Christian has from time to time--I know I have.

So, if Christian women are not going to be sincere and authentic in showing Christian love, where is a heart that needs that love suppose to turn? Alas, to the Lord, true. But I will go farther than this, I will state the truth as Jesus did...

"the prostitutes enter the kingdom of God before you." I think this is because prostitutes/sinners know what it means to truly care and give their heart to something, whereas many people who presume to be Christians do not know how to truly care for anyone. I honestly have seen many people who are the dirtiest of sinners go farther spiritually then the 'callous' Christian who never goes forward whatsoever but instead continues to tread the water of luke-warmness--perhaps for an eternity.

So. Yes, whoever you are reader, I Love you...and more importantly the Lord loves you deeply.

:) :) :)

ps...It is a good thought that if I say we are suppose to fall in love with everyone why am I not falling in Christian love with guys (not gayly but even as I believe the Lord truly loved his disciples)? I suppose my response would be if gals are soooo terrified of a guy that loves them and wants nothing from them (not sex or marriage or dating or courting)--than what would a guy do? As I do not believe that true love is seen in the Buddweiser's commercials of "I love you man" but truly knowing that guys love you and look after you in what-for-some-reason-my-mind-compared-to why some guys joing gangs or mobs. That old expression "do you have my back?" also comes to mind. Because, to be honest, I often doubt that many of the people I have meant in church have my back--meaning that they don't usually have my best interests in mind, they do not deeply care for me, and they are not willing to fight for my spiritual advancement. You can say this is wrong and it is wrong for me to doubt, but I ask a little forbearance and for you to understand that you do not know what I have done or what I have gone through. And yes, I dayly must fight for these three to be true for me : that I keep my brother's best interest in mind, that I deeply care for you, and that I fight for you to spiritually advancement.

If you think its possible to fall in love with everyone, then you truly don't know what falling in love is like.

You want to know what falling in love is really like? Ok...

Falling in love means:
- it means that when the person doesn't love you back it brings your very soul to its knees!
- it means that no matter how hard you try you can't get that person out of your mind all day long...and all night!
- it means that you would literally give anything and everything you have just to be with this person for the rest of your life.
- it means that if anything ever happened to this person you yourself would wish you were dead.

That doesnt sound like the type of love you could bestow on everyone now does it? AND IF IT DOES....then you have what's called a psychosis and you should probably seek professional help.

I have to disagree with your definition/characteristics of falling in love. I would say that what you describe as falling in love is psychosis, and that falling in love truly means to deeply care for the other even as Jesus commands us to love them as he loves them. That's it. Since I do not see any deeper love than that, I think that all other loves should be qualified by this love that Jesus commands us to have.

To love as Jesus loved...if thats not falling in love with a person I do not know what is.

It seems you have been through something that you thought was love or falling in love but was not...you did not even mention anything about caring for the other person in your post...hmmm...no offence meant but I do not believe what you decribed is love or falling into anything but perhaps falling in idolatry.

Just my observation

God bless
