The Scriptures of Christ are all one perfectly unified word, even as the Godhead of Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Therefore, every Scripture must be taught in context of all other Scripture, not just from verse to verse within a chapter of Scripture. To rightly teach any Scripture, we must do so in context of all Scripture taken together as one complete word.

If we separate one Scripture from other Scriptures, not just verse to verse within a certain chapter, but also from other chapters and books, then we are falsely teaching Scripture out of context. The end result with be contradicting the unity of Scripture written for doctrine and prophecy of God.

This is commonly done by unbelievers seeking fault with Scripture, to say God's words are not inerrant.

Isa 45:7
I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.

From this one verse alone, anyone could teach that the God of the Bible is the creator of evil things, and so is an evil creator doing evil things. However taken in context of all Scripture together:

Jas 1:13
Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:

Here we see that God cannot do evil, because He can't even be tempted with evil. Nor does He tempt anyone to do evil. Therefore, Is 45:7 must be read and taught in context of James 1:13, that the God of the Bible cannot be an evil Creator creating and doing evil. Such as the pagan God Moloch.

Such false accusations against the God of the Bible, however is also done by believers, in order to teach their own false doctrine.

Eph{2:8}
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

By this verse alone, anyone could say that salvation is only by faith through faith, to the exclusion of repentance and works.

By that rule of exclusion from other Scriptures:

Gal 2:16
Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ,

By this verse alone, anyone could say that justification is by faith of Jesus Christ alone, to the exclusion of repentance and works and grace.

Titus{3:3}
But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

And by this verse alone, anyone can say that salvation is by the mercy of God alone, to the exclusion of repentance and works and grace and faith.

However, taken in context of all Scripture together, not only unifies the gospel of Jesus Christ into one principle doctrine, but also does away with the ad absurdum of isolating one Scripture to the exclusion of others:

Mark{1:15}
The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.

Heb {6:1}
Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,

Acts 3:19
Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;

2 Cor 7:10
For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of:

Repentance is principally necessary for salvation by grace through faith toward God.

James{2:14}
What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?...Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

James{2:21}
Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?...Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.

And works are necessary to be saved and justified by grace through faith of Jesus Christ.

And so, when we read any Scripture, we must always include all Scripture pertaining to the same thing, in order to know the unified principle gospel and doctrine of Jesus Christ.

Anyone teaching falsely from any certain Scripture, but excluding other Scripture pertaining to it, is advocating for a gospel and doctrine of another Christ, not the Jesus Christ of Scriptures.

Gal 1:6
I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel. Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.

Mark 13:22
For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.

I agree with you, scripture must be understood in both the immediate context, and within the greater context o h bible as a whole. I would dad one thing.

We must also understand the bible in the cultural and linguistic context it was written to fully understand. This takes time and considerble work but is well worth the effort.

Great post BTW!

If you take the -------Text ------out of CONTEXT ------your left with a CON -------- and you will end up with Falsely dividing the Word of God -----

Taking scripture out of context creates a "pretext," a "con," or a distorted message that often promotes personal agendas or false teachings over original intent. Without understanding historical setting, literary style, and surrounding verses, isolated, literal interpretations become a dangerous misunderstanding of divine intent

Re post #1: I typically try to cite Eph. 2:8-10, which indicates that saving faith is manifested by godly works.

Re post #2: I would note that interpreting a verse in the context of the whole Bible necessitates having encyclopedic knowledge,
so we will need to be content with living up to what we learn bit by bit (Phil 3:16).

Re post #3: It might be helpful to discern which misunderstandings are dangerous and which are merely incorrect.

Re post #4: My hermeneutic values two NT teachings as key points from which to triangulate or use to guide an interpretation of the Bible, especially problematic statements.

First, God loves and wants to save everyone. Seven Scriptures teaching divine omnilove include: 1John 4:7-12, Rom. 5:8, Matt. 5:44&48, Gal. 5:6&14, Eph. 3:17b-19, Eph. 5:2 and 1Tim. 2:3-4, which might be deemed the “7 pearls”. Christ died to show God’s love and the possible salvation of all (Rom. 5:6-8) including His enemies: those who are ungodly, atheist, anti-Christ, pseudo-Christian (Matt. 7:21, John 8:42-44).

Second, God is just (2Thes. 1:6a, cf. Rom. 3:25-26 & 9:14, Deut. 32:4, Psa. 36:6, Luke 11:42, Rev. 15:3). Explanations of God’s Word should not impugn God’s justice and love for all people (Joel 2:13, John 3:16). This parameter is affirmed in the OT (Psa. 145:17): “The Lord is righteous in all his ways, and holy in all his works.”

Over... :love:

Isa 28:13 But the word of the LORD was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.

2Ti 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

A lot of people that have an interpretation of the Bible do not have enough information about the subject so it falls short of the truth.

They will take an isolated scripture and make a doctrine of it being hasty.

Many people have a contradiction against their belief but they ignore it.

Many people go by the blueprint their denominations lays down and do not see the red flags.

Some people believe what they want to believe blinding them from the truth.

The best thing is to read through the Bible of how the Bible says it and then they could see the contradictions.

Oh I thought it meant this but it means that.

Denominations determine the outcome of a lot of people's beliefs.

Cults will use an isolated scripture to influence the people motivated by power and control.

TV evangelists convincing the people they are justified to be rich financially even though the Bible speaks against it.

It is crazy the division and personal beliefs of people and it is the same book.

There is not a book that has been so misinterpreted as the Bible.

But there is a lot of information about it.

It is not like Dr. Suess Cat in the Hat.

A big problem is how people believe they cannot be Christlike even though the Bible says a Spirit led person will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh.

I believe the lack of bible instruction is actually a big failure on the part of the church. This shortcoming goes all the way back to the seminaries where church doctrine becomes the focus. I love my Catholic brothers and sisters so please no hate messages. This issue has been particularly evident there. There are entire generations of Catholics versed in doctrine and biblically ignorant. Protestants fare little better.

I agree and believed my Baptist Bible teaching was deficient beyond the basic Gospel, so I felt called to be part of the solution.
We needed more training in apologetics, hermeneutics and application to politics.
I served a church in Maryland that had many mixed marriages of Baptists and Catholics, and I try to use "catholic" as referring to the worldwide body/church of Christ, which includes evangelical Roman Catholics.
The main problem in my experience is the vicious cycle of which comes first: pastors who preach beyond the basic Gospel or parishioners who want pastors to teach GW beyond the Gospel rather than be content with emotional fellowships.

Everyone begins by being ignorant of Scripture, but the purpose of life is to learn GW.
Unfortunately, many people are not truthseekers, as you described,
unwilling to admit they were wrong and change their mind because of pride.

Yes, divisiveness and denominationalism, misinterpretations and heretical cults are wrong.
May we be part of the solution rather than part of the problem.

True, but since the NT says all believers are priests, I guess everyone not advocating for Bible teaching/preaching to go beyond the Gospel shares the blame.

Prayer meetings are good, and fellowship groups are great, but folks who are content with emotional song services do not realize the best blessing comes from experiencing the whisper of GW/HS (1Kings 19:11-12).

Thank you.

I began to realize there's a serious issue with some Bible teaching, when they start quoting certain Scriptures, and say things like, "This Scripture says nothing about...." And yet other Scriptures certainly do say more things about the same subject.

It's like people expect God to write every revelation and substance of truth in one verse.

For instance, how can anyone understand the whole prophecy of the Lord coming to earth from from Is 53 alone? Nothing is said of His resurrection in Is 53, so does that mean the Lord would only come to earth to be killed and nothing more? Of course not.

A lot of people that have an interpretation of the Bible do not have enough information about the subject so it falls short of the truth.They will take an isolated scripture and make a doctrine of it being hasty.
This of course can be true for the beginning reader, however, the error is made by some teachers on purpose. The willfully ignore other Scriptures, that do not fit with their handling of one or two isolated Scriptures.

Many people have a contradiction against their belief but they ignore it.
It's when other quoted Scriptures are ignored, that we know the false teaching is on purpose.

It is only partially a reason, but the primary responsibility is with the reader seeking the truth of Scripture. From the beginning God commanded and commends believers reading His words for ourselves.

Deu 11:18
Therefore shall ye lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul, and bind them for a sign upon your hand, that they may be as frontlets between your eyes.

Act 17:11
These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

Afterall, it's the whole reason God has His word of truth written, preserved, and spread over all the earth, so that any person can read His words for ourselves, and in our own languages.

One of the great powers of God, that is taken for granted by many, is the fact that His words are all in one Book and in all languages and other than for persecution, free liberty to be read.

Just as the soldier cannot claim obedience to unlawful orders as an excuse, neither can believers claim adherence to local church doctrine as an excuse for not studying the word, to see if their trusted leaders are ministering the word rightly from Scripture.

This is true as far as it goes. the key problem being that there is no consistent definition of scripture across all of Christianity that we can hold fast to. The Bible contains somewhere between 66 and 82+ books. There is a minimum of 150 psalms, possibly 155 or even more. How many of us know with absolute certainty, not with personal conviction but absolute certainty, what the proper bounds of scripture are?

And then there is Romans 1:20, which no Christian tradition I am aware of denies being scripture, and it tells us that what can be known of God is knowable from creation. Who would care to present the gospel with just what is available without scripture? Note, scripture does not clearly define where "general" or "special" revelations begin or end, humans do that, and most Christians accept that distinction as being convenient for granting special status to those of us who read the scriptures we accept, but is such an attitude adding to the word of God or following it, and justify your answer in light of Romans.

The Word of God is not the Bible translation someone is basing their doctrines on. The Word of God is the meaning of the Greek or Hebrew text that any particular translation is purporting to convey accurately.
If a pastor cannot demonstrate from the Greek and Hebrew texts the validity of the translation of the texts they are basing their doctrines on, they may not be getting their doctrine from the Word of God at all.

The word translated "I form" in is a qal participle from the verb YaaTsaR (he formed), and means to form by squeezing. The word translated as "create" is a qal participle from the verb BaRa’ (he shaped) which means to shape by cutting. So God shapes evil by curring it, by limiting the evil creatures can do. But he shapes light by compressing it into the material universe. Understanding the words used in the original languages must be the first step in clarifying the meaning of the scriptures. Otherwise, one may well be trying to fit one or more errors together to form a correct doctrine. But GIGO.

GW is Truth/Logos/Word, which fallible folks can learn sufficiently for salvation, but not perfectly.
The main sources of Truth are creation/(supernatural) nature (Gen. 1:3, John 1:1-3, Rom. 1:20)
and inspired Scriptures such as what was just cited, whether gleaned via sufficiently accurate understanding
of Hebrew and Greek, or via sufficiently accurate understanding of sufficiently accurate translations.
We folks walk by fallible faith; perfect sight/proof may be attained when we are translated to heaven.
