"Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days..." --Luke 4:1-2

Fasting from food does strange things to the human body. Some fasting Christians feel primitive with wild cravings. Others may feel dizzy and confused. Most experience an overwhelming sense of weakness. Yet, somehow in the midst of this weakness--God becomes more real than ever.

Fasting is a great way for Christians to receive guidance or clarity in a short period of time. It can mean a breakthrough for an answered prayer. However, it can be dangerous. Check with your doctor to make sure fasting is acceptable you. Once you receive the okay, start off by just skipping a single meal occasionally. After awhile, you could try fasting for 24 hours. Alternately, you could fast from a non-food activity like refraining from watching television for a day.

Remember that fasting is a valuable tool to help you draw near to the Lord. When you love Jesus and want more of Him, worldly treasures and even food cannot keep you from Him. And absolutely nothing can keep His love from you!

Dear Father, I pray You would guide us on the path we should take to know You more. Help us to draw near to You in healthy ways. In Christ's Name, Amen.
