Not what u may think...

since near the end of last winter and 4 times this winter, I've been trying to learn how to ski. I know how but for the life of me, I cannot turn. I can watch people til I'm blue in the face. I've been watching YouTube videos trying to get different examples, trying to follow how other people do it but am at a complete loss. Each time I try and turn one of my feet gets stuck and I end up crossing or wedging. It's so difficult. My partner keeps telling me to let it flow and glide over the snow but it's not that easy. I've tried just for speed and ended up having a very bad crash.

We we went to hunter mountain yesterday and that was so much more difficult. I fell so many times, got hurt, and am extremely sore right now. I'm determined to learn but I don't understand what's holding me back, why I just am not able to follow what others are doing. People seem to easily be able to control their speed down large hills get I struggle. As soon as I gain speed, I try to do a hard turn yet even with that I'm wedging. I try to keep the skis parallel yet I'm unable to as 1 foot continuously gets stuck. I'm so depressed.

My my partner and I learned how to ski the same day. He caught on within 2 hrs and can now go down black diamonds without falling. I can't even get down the easiest trails yet. It's so difficult

I'm at a complete and total loss as to how to fix what im doing wrong. Idk if lessons will even help at this point bc I know what I'm doing wrong but even when people show me how to do it correctly, I still am not able to.

Turning requires letting the skis slide across the snow, especially the rear portion of the skis, which is not a natural feeling. It's hard for some to get used to and let happen. It also requires lifting the downhill edge up so the ski can slide. This is particularly difficult on the uphill ski, which could be why you end up wedging because the edge is digging in instead of being lifted. Put your weight more on the downhill ski and to the back of the skis, but lean towards the uphill ski as much as you can, if you fall while turning you should fall uphill of your feet and exaggerating that condition to the point of making yourself fall might help you get over that hump. The end result would be like your feet gently sliding out from under you and you end up sitting on your rump with your feet directly downhill of you. Too, it requires a little force/momentum to make the skis slide so going too slowly may be the issue as well (But don't kamikaze down the hill that's excessive ;) ).

Another alternative might be a snowboard; there is only one surface and edge to control.

Don't know if this will help or not but someone who skis was just talking about how you need to always put your weight on the downhill ski and when you turn put your weight again on the downhill ski...if you don't you will fall and get hurt.... So learn to put your weight on the downhill ski...

The other tip they gave was fall forward you have a tendency to want to fall back but fall forward and you won't get hurt as much.
