Florist Sued for Refusing Service to Gay Couple Pens Defiant Letter Rejecting Gov’t Settlement Offer

A Christian florist who was sued and found guilty of discrimination after refusing to provide flowers for a same-sex wedding isn’t planning on backing down, recently issuing a defiant letter rejecting a settlement agreement and revealing plans to appeal her case.

After Barronelle Stutzman, 70, declined a $2,001 settlement offer in a letter to the state’s attorney general on Friday, her attorney, Kristen Waggoner, senior counsel of the Alliance Defending Freedom, a conservative legal firm, told TheBlaze on Monday that a judge’s decision that Stutzman violated anti-discrimination law will be challenged in the state court system.

Stutzman penned a response letter to [Fla. Atty-Gen. Bob] Ferguson, rejecting his offer and defending her religious beliefs. In it, she wrote that it has been “exhausting” to be at the center of the controversy over the past two years and said that she never imagined that her “God-given talents and abilities” would become illegal if she refused to use them to serve same-sex weddings.

“Since 2012, same-sex couples all over the state have been free to act on their beliefs about marriage, but because I follow the Bible’s teaching that marriage is the union of one man and one woman, I am no longer free to act on my beliefs,” she wrote.

The lady's got some courage to take on the whole state in the face of losing everything she's got at the age of 70. This woman needs the prayers of every Christian in the country.

While I favor and encourage Christians in being friendly to those in the LGBT community, making it clear we can be friends and openly discuss the issues between Christians who believe the Bible and those in that community who insist on "acceptance," we must also stand firm in demanding the governments in the U.S. recognize our own rights where they appear to conflict with those of the LGBT community.
 
I sometimes discuss these things with my homosexual and lesbian friends. They seem to appreciate and respect it. But then, they aren't the typical Flamers out there trying to stir up a ruckus.
 
Unfortunately we have passed the point of no return.....as a believer we can no longer stand stiff on biblical principles without being labeled a bigot by those in society who have full rights to mouth, belittle and down Christians and Christian principles...........!
 
Honestly, it's not about religious freedom. Religious freedom doesn't grant you immunity to the law.

What this is about is property rights. If you own a business, should you be allowed to pick and choose who you serve at your own discretion? I may not condone what the florist did, but I support her right to choose who she does business with.

yep, I know a few people who are gay. They respect my beliefs and I respect theirs. They also find the actions of the LGBT mafia pathetic
 
Honestly at this point it looks like gay couples are purposely targeting overtly Christian florists, bakers, etc.

Yea its called "liberty" to worship God with ones own conscience, and not being forced to approve sexual deviants by the government.
