Of course it is speaking of the spirit of people because it is speaking of lust of the flesh that people do.

This has to do with lusting for things of the flesh which God tells them to correct it so it would not be speaking of the Jesus being jealous over His chosen.

James 4:5 Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, "The Spirit who dwells in us yearns jealously"?

This would be the wrong interpretation for it is not speaking of the Spirit but the spirit in people.

The context is lust of the flesh so it speaking of the spirit of people that lust.

Which is strange how it is the New King James version but strays like like that from the King James version.

Right! If using the word of God alone to confirm as shown, I might add a very shame to consider, but, presents the reader the benefit and serves as an example of the fallen state of those behind the above. That some translation societies have introduced this extreme, damnable treatment. I would be hard-pressed to think of a more egregious departure from the “the collective theological tradition.”

One example of the vulnerable human spirit when confronted with fishermen being given impossible speech from the Lord:

"But others mocked them and said, “They are drunk on new wine!” (Acts 2:13)

We must not forget what Jesus said of the worsening state of the spirit of man,

"For if they do these things when the tree is green, what will happen when it is dry?"

They will fulfill the prophesy, and turn their face against any hint of the impossible and turn it also into a "myth" (2Tim 4:4)
