oh and how about the warming on venus, mars, jupiter, saturn? let me guess man is doing that as well?

Oh and if you people are so worried about the scam known as climate change, what are you doing using electricity and computers? bet you also live in a house.. and drive a car...

If the system is tailored in such a way as normal people rely on oil because they can't afford the alternative, that is the fault of those who control the system (fiat money, oil supremacy, corporatism and globalization), not the fault of the penniless common man. Unfortunately, if a person is against fat money, corporatism and globalization built on fossil fuel use, his only choice is voting for a different party who think like he does. Until then, we gotta use money to eat.

wait...what??

i thought God is sovereign, and fully able to control the weather
and make this fallen world last till it serves His purposes...

Hey psychomum,

I feel that's like thinking God is sovereign, and fully able to control human events
and make the evil actions of this fallen generation work for His purposes .... And so therefore we don't need to do anything on our part to lessen the suffering that happens in the world (the silently implied conclusion.)

You're right, God is sovereign. But that is not code for sit back and do nothing. Why shouldn't we be more concerned with how we're managing the planet that God gave us?

You mean that God thought so much of Christians that he would use them to delay climate change long enough for his plan to come to fruition and he would start the end of days - all without giving us so much as a single instruction in his word that this is the plan?

Seems a bit... far fetched.

Sit and do nothing? No, that's not Christian. Think that whatever we do changes one iota of what God want's do do? Also not Christian. He doesn't need us, we need Him.

I was going to point out the medevial warm period - as the warming on other planets is contested, but you make a valid point.

I for one and not worried about global warming. We've already got a solution - next generation light water reactors with passive safety systems (the kind that can't fail even after an earth quake), and then later bleeding edge breeder reactors which can use waste from light water reactors and turn it into less radioactive longer lived isotopes (in greatly reduced quantities).

And then, sometime in the next 50 years, torodial fusion reactors are also potentially in the pipeline. You can make deuterium and Tritium in a light water reactor. The entire package fits together quite neatly. It isn't perfect - there is still waste, but there is a lot less of it, and it even allows the processing of some older waste.

And, if people want to experiment with wind and solar, then they can add about 20-30 percent generating capacity with those two technologies - but no more or the facilities are not at full capacity.

This is convoluted, very. One on hand you're twisting what he wrote, and implying that he's talking about usurping God's ultimate authority by 'doing something about climate change', on the other you're saying Christians shouldn't sit and do nothing. Then you mention that it'll all be okay because humans can make the technology to curb the energy crisis.

'We haven't been given any instructions to look after the planet (which is false), so your assertion that God's total sovereignty and power negates the need for us to do anything is false (faulty correlation that doesn't actually address the point made). Do you think anything we do changes one iota of God's plan? (propositional question supposed to prove the point that God has entire, total sovereignty, the logical conclusion from which would be we are not required to do anything) But still, we as Christians don't just it around and do nothing! (Defeats the entire purpose of your post thus far). Fear not, we have a solution anyway (which happens to be man-made anyway)''.

This is a good example of cognitive dissonance.

We still have no general consensus on global warming but e

Sorry, I disagree. Those qualified to study and relay the science have an overwhelming consensus.

Those large Oil companies around the world that buy political influence 'disagree'.

1st it was global cooling and the coming ice age.

that didn't work

so they came up with the global warming scam.

that didn't work

so now they push the climate change scam.

yes it is all a scam, the creators of the scam is looking to sucker the low information types who fall for the scam out of lots of money.

Climate has always swung up and down. it gets warm it gets cool. its been going on for thousands of years. if you really believe in man made climate change, then I have a bridge i'll sell you for the nice low price of $99.99

You forgot about the ozone layer fear mongering of the 80s and 90s

sorry for the delay...old and forgetful!

of course we have responsibilities...we should be good stewards of all God gives us.
but i don't think climate change is something we need to fear. :)

We can disagree on climate change, but I'm definitely with you on being good stewards of God's world :)

I'm from Queensland, home to the Great Barrier Reef - we've lost huge swathes of beautiful reef due to warming ocean temperatures and pollution run-off. Both our national and state governments continue pressing ahead with new coal mining projects that will use large areas of the Reef for seabed dredging, despite their own assessments concluding that the Reef is in great danger. Even several major international banks have declined to fund the project due to environmental concerns (banks that normally have no qualms backing big corporate interests!)

Regardless of your position on climate change, I hope there's consensus that it's time to really push for renewable energies and figure out ways to significantly cut carbon emissions at the individual, government and international levels. Although at this point I'm slightly despairing for Australia...
