I can already sense a few folks here packing and heading to Georgia. :)

Guns should be banned full stop. They are a burden to society all round the world. The amount of money the US spend on guns and armory to combat people running around with guns and armory is ridiculous. And the amount of senseless deaths in the Us from gun crime or trigger-happy policemen is also ridiculous.

Banning guns don't take guns out of the hands of criminals. It only takes guns out of the hands of law-abiding citizens. In Kennesaw, GA, you are required to have guns and they have the lowest crime rates. I'm proud to be a Georgian :)

I'm from Northern Ireland.

Gun crime in the UK is among the lowest in the world (rate of 0.7 per 100,000 in 2010, as opposed to 3 per 100,000 in the US).

The only country where police officers aren't banned from carrying guns in the UK is Northern Ireland.

UK statistics take into account gun related murders in Northern Ireland, and since, for the last I don't-know-how-many-years, there have been several shootings every year due to what we know as 'The troubles', and the effects of 'the troubles', a conflict between Paramiltary organisations, armed forces and police, and also 'punishment shootings', this causes the UK gun-crime rate to go up.

Also considering gun laws in Northern Ireland aren't as stringent as the rest of the UK, then the statistic always looks in the favour that gun-banning doesn't inherently work.

But if we take away the Northern Ireland statistics, the evidence is most definitely in favour of banning guns.

for gun violence not violence in general

Relaxing gun laws is a bad move.

I don't think it would make much difference. You can't get rid of that darkness in people's hearts with legislation. It's either the Way of the Gun or the Way of Christ. You can't love the gun as much as you love our Lord.

I agree, but you have to understand it is the will of the people. All of it. The (secular) law never could make a man good, and it can't stop him from spilling the blood of his neighbour. The Americans are dealing with a lot of self-inflicted horror, and it is not going to stop. If it didn't stop after Newtown, it will not stop until no one is left alive.
