As I recall, 1. Hearing a message on the biblical account. 2. Coming forward before many witnesses to receive personal prayer like all the others (a couple doz). 3. While at the altar, my prayer partner prayed and laid hands on me to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit with the 'evidence of speaking in tongues'. He then began to coach using his own prayer language for a few seconds then back in English to encourage. Somewhere between 5-and-10 seconds, I went from English to an unknown tongue.

June 1st, 1986 to present: After an extended duration, I admittedly began to feel myself being given to a draining sensation. I am aware of those who want to put this gift on a pedestal fearful of it somehow being corrupted from self-determination. Well, I'll put my near 40 yrs against your fear of that any day. For I stayed with it. What do I have to show for it? I do have a personal report on that same use of the gift for so long, for what it's worth, a subtle development but one I think users may find noteworthy. That is the interesting occasion of the instant, or sudden spout-off. I'm not saying this is new as such but in effect, moreso than at any other through the years. How do I respond? Like someone turned on the smile-inside feature, like finding one of your old favorite helper device, no laughter, no jumping up and down but, a more pronounced soothing surprise. Glory to God!

Ever wonder, those of you who don't use this gift, that just maybe this isn't as fringe as suspected? Have you even tried to tarry at a Pentecostal assembly? They tend to gravitate to the flaming instrument stated, nice when you can find one who emits Jesus' great mercy. God bless.

I have to be honest the more I hear you speak about tongues the more I want the gift my only issue is that all the times I have prayed for certain gifts never once did I recieve them so to be honest it is hard for me to believe he will give it to me now

Blain, grace and peace to you dear brother. Would you have imagined, that very Sunday, I felt the same way. The speaker was a master on the subject and I knew instinctively I had to somehow not let anything get in my way for that invitation till 2/3 the way through the message, I just couldn't take it. I felt like running but walked out of the sanctuary to the surrounding corridor where I listened for the remaining message till the invitation.

Little did I know, such unrest was quite unnecessary. I haven't been back at that Church since the late 80s only online but I need to mention, some Pentecostals used to like to espouse fear as I quoted, receiving the Holy Spirit ''with the evidence of speaking in tongues'' can be, as it was for me very upsetting. Seldom, do I ever hear anyone bring up '', , do all speak with tongues'' in the Church?

I still relax for it. But as to that zeal for it, I would advise yes, God still blesses the expectant heart, so don't cast that confidence for it away lest peace has departed. He is still the same, a rewarder of them ''who diligently seek [the Holy Spirit]''. If someone were to mention that to me having that unnecessary cloud of unrest over me at that time, I would have been delighted knowing, I was no less a Christian than anyone who had received Christ as Savior.

May I take that one further, far better knowing currently, we are exactly where He wants us and knows how to bring things to pass which might not be associated with that specific ancient gift, but another ancient gift, even as an interpreter of a Church message in tongues, any number of gifts as He wills for each of us specifically, so wonderful. Jesus walks with and in you I am confident, and also confident He also still likes to reward them who hunger with a hunger He put there in the first place. Hope and wish that day is a mighty one, the day He appoints for Blain!!

Well I am always open to it I suppose God could grace me with the gift, I was just speaking with a jehova witness a minute ago and apparently they don't believe tongues are for today but I experienced it first hand a couple times with people laying hands on me and wow was there power in it unbelievable mind boggling power unlike anything I ever felt before it brought a whole new aspect of God to my eyes

I feel sorry for those who reject it or don't believe in it because if what I experienced is just a taste imagine if I actually got to speak it and imagine if everyone who heard it was filled to the brim with the spirit and felt that same power that is perhaps my greeatest desire when it comes to tongues to fill people up
 
If you experience it, and it brings you closer to God, then by definition it can only be from God.

Hi - I have recently been praying in tongues. I am not a member of a church as this time so I use this gift in praying & worshiping when alone with the Lord.
So it was the morning of March 12 2025 that I started speaking. I was having my private devotional time. The topic just happened do with tongues! Like with many devotionals, I dug deeper. I read that some people who have this gift are not aware. Yes a person has to be born again, because it is a spiritual gift from the heavenly Father. Anyway, I prayed out loud thanking the Lord for all he has done in my life. I prayed that if it was His Will for me to have this gift that I would receive it. Still focused on God, in Faith, I just opened my mouth & started to say a word then like a river another language (tongue) came flowing out! It was amazing! I was full of joy - praising the Lord Jesus in another tongue! I was standing with my bible in one arm & the other arm in the air- tears streaming down my face. This experience was indeed a moving of the Holy Spirit. When a person becomes a christian, they receive spiritual gifts. They have at least one or more. Sometimes they don’t recognize those gifts at first. I believe it can take some time - & walking closely with the Lord before discovering those gifts. I would say, if you are born again, pray that the Lord will reveal to you your spiritual gifts so that they can be put to use for the Glory of God.
For whatever reason, people will fake. You will know it’s not fake when you have personally experienced it, you will know that it is from God. He is truth.

I believe you already have this manifestation of Holy Spirit gifting.
"I'm going to form words, please give the words that I need to pray, for I know you know better than I what I need to pray", or something like that, when the words come out He will avalanche you with His joy in response, the only way we fail is by not trying. It's a settling down, not a building up, that He is open to, "a humble and contrite Spirit I will in no wise cast out".

Ya suppose the predominant Pentecostal world focus is derailed from the whole spiritual preference He intended for us as we do, preferring tongues so we could secure prophesy, which glosses over His definition of initial focus, focus on prophesy to secure tongues spontaneity,

I desire you all to speak in tongues, but rather that you should prophesy. (1 Cor 14:55)

I have the gift of prophecy and I can testify that it is one worth desiring, when you prophesy you can feel the spirit flowing through your veigns and body you don't know what your saying at the time or the meaning most of the time but it feels like truth you just know in your soul it is truth
and I have seen how it can inspire encourage and give hope to those who recieve it however it also comes with those who would mock attack or ridicule you for it.
To desire prophecy is indeed a wonderful thing but you must count the cost and understand the enemy will use even those who call themselves Christians to attack and mock to discourage you from prophesying and if possible doubt yourself

The king shall come in this day and his bride who he has delayed shall prosper a latter rain shall come in this hour such as never seen before

Behold the glory of God will fall upon each face that dwells in his accord sealed for such a time that is to come the land that is dry shall floruish where they walk the throns of the bristle shall not harm them no shall they bleed for this day was prophesied to come and even those who consider themselves men of the cloth shall be bewidered and fall on their faces in repentance
But the Lord shall not save them from the hour of trial that is to come for they have mocked and ridiculed the ones he sent forth to speak of these days they loved their knowledge and wisdom but did not fear the Lord

But they will fear him in this day for his mighty hand shall sweep the nations not one stone will be left unturned and the prosperity shall not come to those who desired it for themselves and yet kept what little they had from the ones who begged for it

The great men of the age will not understand nor percieve their minds shall turn to mush and their kingdoms they have built for themselves shall fall. as the wicked cry for salvation the Lord shall not hear them and they will turn on those who fed them by the hand but oh blessed children of the Lord fear not of this day for such things must come to pass in this day you will see the wonders and glory of Jehova and while your enemies walk on thorns and bristle your feet will be on silk green grass you will run and leap in this joy that will be unspeakable and he will adorn your heads with crowns and your hands with scepters all power shall be given unto you and authority shall be in your name

not a single stone shall land against your head not one blade from the sword shall touch you and my spirit will wlak with you as you never dreamed but woe to the nations who have scorned my servants woe to the devil who lashes out against thee my judgement shall be swift and harsh justified and true

Behold the suns light shall not shine but light will be in the darkness for I have chosen you my children my chosen ones to carry my torch all who hear you and rejpoice will praise my name all who come to repentance from your words and miracles shall spew words of repentance like a flowing river and they will be saved.

beware of the false prophets for they speak but their words are empty they speak sweet words like honey but like honey it does not fill the stomach they will come in flocks and if possible mislead and fool my elect they shall try to imitate me in order to fool the unwitting but none can imitate the Lord for their works are stale as bread their words as sour as spoiled wine given to itching ears looking for hope.
