He Is Our Gentle Divine Father,
In the beginning, He seemed like a harsh God who
was bent on vengeance. It is written that He made
us in His own image and His intention was that we
could live a happy idyllic life in paradise. But that
was not to be, since we faltered and disobeyed Him
and became lost. So because of His love for us, He
began a series of new beginnings. Adam having
failed, He flooded the earth and left only Noah and
his family on earth and animals. He gave us the rule
that He would be our God and we will be His people.
Again we failed Him and he instituted a new covenant
in Abraham. He followed by giving us one covenant
after another because He loved us so much. So each
time, He helped us to grow in his love, giving us seven
covenants in all, ending with Jesus on the cross. This
was His final covenant, the covenant where He
poured out all His love out on us. Even when we made
mistakes, He showed forgiveness, when we slipped,
He caught us, when we fell, He picked us up. So even
when we fail to do our part, He is still there to guide and
help us. Many see God as a God of vengeance and
anger but as it is written in the letter of 1 john:4, He
reminds us that if we live in His love, we live in Him. To
the very last moment, He will pour His love out on us.
His judgment will not be retribution but rather it will be
reconciliation and redemption.
