God isn't speaking to me. Need advice!

I'm going through something very difficult. I don't know what to do! I pray that God will tell me what I need to know but I'm not hearing anything. I've been praying for this for nearly a year. I have also prayed that since I am not hearing Him, that maybe someone could give me a word from Him. Has God told anyone reading this something that maybe meant for me? I am hurting and desperately seeking God. Thank you!
 
I'm feeling something very similar. Not "hearing" from God on what to do, (moving seems unavoidable, tho it's not what I would choose) but I keep praying ( Romans 12:13 ...stay joyful in hope; patient in affliction; faithful in prayer), but God smiled down on Sunday with a little help in the finance dept., which felt like a little light at the end of a long tunnel.

I pray daily for God's voice, to know His will. Staying in His word helps me,gives me peace, keeps me calm & focused.

My prayers for you, wish I had something more concrete and personal, but know that you are loved and the answer will come in God's perfect timing.

Prayer and reading the Bible, thats how we can communicate with God. God has given me signs in the past, ask for signs... and also... sometimes you just have to wait for the results. God works in his own timing, you get answers when he gives them, not always right away.

Also sometimes we already have the answer...and yet were asking for answers when we already know that God wouldnt approve of lying, stealing, hatred, lust, or putting God second, etc etc

I'm sorry you're feeling how you do, but you need to be cautious about how you go about seeking to hear from God. Coming to a forum of strangers hoping someone has some magic word from God seems spiritually unhealthy and risky. Seeking out 'words' from random people is not really the way God wants us to hear from Him.

I was hoping someone had a scripture or a saying that kept coming up that may have helped me. As far as being cautious, I wouldn't take to heart just anything. I feel like if something was meant for me and it was from God, I would know it! I know as Christians, we try to be thoughtful and encouraging in times of heartache and need. I just needed some encouragement.
 
Sometimes we think He is not speaking and He really is. I went through a similar thing. Looking back, I realized He was there the whole time, speaking the whole time. The issue wasn't silence, but rather I was relying on feeling Him. He was there but because I couldn't feel Him, I also couldn't hear Him. Read through the Psalms. David, a man after God's own heart, had times when he couldn't hear God. Take heart. God loves you and He will never leave you or forsake you.
 
It can be very alienating to be in a place where we are unable to discern God's work or voice in our lives. My experience has been that it's at those times when my life is full of chaos, be it through concerns about family, work, the world... that I am unable to feel that connection to God. What gave me comfort at those times is the understanding that God is right there with me in those moments of crisis, bearing me up, it's just that I'm not in a place where I can see or feel it -- there are too many other things blocking the lines of communication. You will get your answers. Unfortunately, they don't always happen at the time we'd like them to, but God will give them to you.

Then you may want to be considerate of your wording. The term 'give me a word from Him' implies seeking some sort of prophetic word. Using the correct wording for your intentions helps prevent misunderstandings.

First I'd like to tell you that I know exactly how you feel. I have gone through seasons in my life where I felt Jesus couldn't be any farther away. I had doubts. I had gone from being on fire for the Lord to doubting his very existence. I would pray, and nothing seemed to happen. I get it, I really do.

But my friends here is the truth. We all want to hear from God, and for the most part we all say we want to follow his will. There tends to be a few things that almost never fail to get in our way. We can't deny the distance spiritually that happens when we are in sin, managing sin, being unrepentant of sin. Sin my friends leads to death in all areas of our lives: relationships with others, could physically kill us, and spiritually kills us. With the power of the Holy Spirit we as christians need to put sin to death or it will put us to death. I encourage you to not settle, and don't be content living with it.

James 5:16
Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective

We need to confess our sins to one another because than healing will come. Being open with one another will build community, and it will also build accountability. In a world that just beckons us day and night to sin, especially sexually. We need to build one another up.

After you have confessed your sins I can't stress enough reading your bible and praying. These are the two mediums that God has chosen to speak to his people. You want to hear from God....read your bible. With the Holy Spirit, the power that raised Jesus Christ from death, in us, He will convict us and speak to us. When you do this, I PROMISE you that God will show up. Also we need to be a people of prayer, and not narcissistic prayers. Yes it is true that God loves us individually, but he also loves other people as well. Jesus have given you eternal life! Your names are in the book of life and that is reason to be joyful. If you start praying for others and doing kingdom work you will find fulfillment. God loves you, but he wants you to tell other people of this love. He wants you to love others for him. Be like Jesus. If you read your bible than you God will reveal himself.

God is not hiding from us, we are just in rebellion. We all like sheep have gone astray, and God is pursuing us. We need to start taking Jesus at his word and putting our faith in what he says in scripture. God is standing at the door waiting and pursuing you, but there has to be some level of commitment from our side.

I encourage you friends to devote yourselves to serving others and prayer. When you do this than God does and will show up. After all he promises over and over in the bible. Isn't it his reputation on the line? Put your full trust in the Lord and follow him. Those who lose their lives will find it in Christ.

Revelation 3:20
Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.

I hope you find these words encouraging. Go repent, open your bible, and pray. Jesus will show up to all of those who call upon him.

Hi. I've been in the same situation. But, as far as I know, God had heard what you have prayed. You just need to wait for the right time. It may be called as delayed answer (Daniel 10:12-13). Even you haven't prayed for it, God knew it already. He is an Omnipresent. Cheer Up. The answer for your prayers is coming. Have faith! :)

Sometimes God doesnt respond to our prayer because it is not the will of our God, everything happens for a reason...Jesus even asked God why did he abandoned him? (mark 15:34) remember its not our will but Gods will ...


its better to be dead that not knowing Gods purpose in our life...
 
God has given us intelligence. If you feel that you pray and don't get any answer, just sit down with yourself, be honest with yourself about everything and in light of what you know is right, do the right thing.

"In all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your path."

Sweetie, I don't know if this will be of help or encouragement to you (but I hope so).

All Christians, I think, go through times like this, where the heavens feel like brass. I said to a friend once when I needed the Lord's help for something and felt there was no answer that I guessed He was on vacation and not forwarding His calls. (silly me!)

In retrospect, those times have been the biggest faith growers in my life. I learned more about the character of God and learned to trust Him so much during those times. I honestly feel like they were SUCH a blessing to me, and am glad God allowed me to be challenged in that way, although the process itself is pretty unpleasant.
I think I get better each time at waiting patiently for Him, and have learned to say, with the prophet Isaiah,

"Behold, this is our God for whom we have waited that He might save us. This is the Lord for whom we have waited; let us rejoice and be glad in His salvation." Isaiah 25:9

I will keep praying for you, and look forward to the day you will rejoice in His salvation for your situation!!

There can be a lot of reasons why we don't hear from God. One is sin. Psalm 66:18. If we have confessed sin in our life, that we know about, then God turns a deaf ear to our pleas until we repent and seek His forgiveness. Another is that we don't wait to let God speak to us. Sometimes, we have a tendency to pray to God, but then forget that we need to listen as well, wait for His voice. Which leads to number three, sometimes God is waiting for us to stop giving Him grocery lists and start to talk with Him. If all we are ever doing is just giving God a list of our complaints, wishes, etc..., then we aren't really talking with Him. Instead, we are trying to make God into some kind of Fairy God Father who will grant us whatever we ask. Prayer should be used as means of opening ourselves to hear from God. It opens the lines of Communication between Man and God. Then sometimes, we don't always see God's answer, because we don't know how He speaks to us. God speaks to us in many different ways. First is through the Bible, then Godly counsel, and then through circumstances. On rare occasions God will talk with us in an audible voice.

When you find that you aren't hearing from God:
*Search yourself to see if you have unconfessed sin.
*When praying don't give God a grocery list, but instead talk to Him like you would talk to your father or best friend.
*When finished praying, don't just go on and do your own thing. Instead wait for God. Read your Bible.
*When you receive advise from others, always double to check to make sure it lines up with God's Word, (Including what I wrote here.)
*Understand that God gives different answers to our prayers. Yes, No, and Wait. Remember, that just because we ask for things, does not mean God is going to give it to us.
*And finally, sometimes God changes our prayers.

Hi, me again.
Fist off... let's just get all of the nonsense out of the way, because that would clear up the trouble that you have at the moment. You see you are experiencing a spiritual shift in your life where you are experiencing the supernatural and the spiritual things around you. As to the reason, this happened to you because God ordained you as a messenger of His. He is firstly training you to be a messenger by learning how to destinguish and adapt yourself outside your comfort zone. You are being fearful because what you experienced you haven't read in a book yet nor do you know if it is from God or from the devil. You start to share things on forums just in the faint hope that someone has experienced similar events in their life. Do not be afraid. You are not alone. There is quite a number of people that believe beyond the normal. But be careful as the things that you learn now is the pearls from God and it must not be given to everyone. For most won't even understand what you are talking about. As for hearing God's voice... do not be afraid. Pray and listen, for He does wish to speak to you and teach you. Have a book next to your bed and when you hear God, write his words. Don't try to prethink it. God's Holy Spirit will always move in His fruit. Be patient and He will come and speak to you. Do not be afraid it will be fine.

This is something i got from a website to help you alittle bit.

In our walk as born-again believers, it may seem that God is silent, but God is never silent. What looks like silence and inactivity to us is God allowing us the opportunity to listen to "the still small voice" and to see the provisions that He has made for us by faith. God is involved in every area of a believer's life--the very hairs on our heads are numbered Mark 10:30; Luke 12:7. However, there are times when we have to walk in obedience to the light that God has given us before He sheds more light on our path, because in this age of grace God speaks to us through His Word.

"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it" Isaiah 55:8-11.

Therefore, when God seems silent to us as born-again believers, it may mean that we have stopped listening to His voice, we have allowed the cares of this world to plug our spiritual ears, or we have neglected His Word. God does not speak to us today in signs, wonders, fire or wind, His Spirit speaks to us through the Word, and in that Word we have the "words of life."
 
I've just been studying Jeremiah 11:11 ....where God refuses to hear Israel's prayers any longer. He even told Jeremiah to stop praying for them because judgment was coming!

My Quest Study Bible poses this question and I really like the answer they give: "When does God refuse to hear prayers?"

"It's possible that people sometimes sabotage their own prayers, causing them to be ineffective. The Bible mentions several attitudes and actions that can short-circuit our prayers:

1. sin (Jer 14:10-12, Psalm 66:18, Isaiah 59:2)
2. disobedience (Proverbs 28:9)
3. hypocrisy and insincerity (Isaiah 29:13, Malachi 1:7-9)
4. pride (Luke 18:11-14)
5. wrong motives (Matt 6:5-6, James 4:3)
6. lack of faith (Heb 11:6, James 1:6)
7. unloving attitudes toward one's spouse (1 Peter 3:7)

Finally, what sometimes appears to be no answer to prayer may actually be a delayed answer (Da 10:12-13). Other times God may deny our request in order to give us something better than what we knew to ask for."

I think this is something all Christians struggle with :)
