God's chastisment

Do not refuse God's chastisment, for like the father corrects the son he loves, so does God chastise the the one He loves!

We dont often talk about God's chastisment, but it is a good subject to discuss.
Especially when we think we do not need to set aside sin for holyness.

I struggled for a long time with understanding the fear of God our Father.
Mostly because of the abuse of my earthly father, who used fear as a tool of torment the first 7 yrs of my life.

But in Jesus, I came to know God our Father, and in Him healing was given, and a love for God Our father that sustains me now and is a joy in every moment of every day.

But it was when I saw the scripture about God's chastisement that this joy was made compleat.
For it was then that I learned that God's chastisement was not about punishment, but a correction so filled with perfect love that my heart broke free of the fear of punishment, that had held me captive for many years of my life.

One can look to any stumbling block or sin in their life, wether it is judging others, pride, greed, ect....
And know, one can be confident that God Our Father will chastise.

In fact one in Jesus in time, will, welcome God's chastisement.
Simply because, only God Our Father can chastise, correct, humble, comfort, make one laugh, delight in Him and fill them with the joy of His great love, in the same moment, breath of time.

I just wanted to witness to the great love of God Our Father's chastisement, and encourage not just discussion, but any who has been afraid of it to know.
That trully God Our Father's chastisement, is one filled with great love and encouragement.

Please share the scriptures that have brought the love of God's chastisement in your life.
For it is not just the knowladge of the word that brings faith, salvation, but the understanding of the word applied in one's life that brings peace.

Thought I would bump this thread, simply because in reading the scripture aboud God's correction?
One sees that although covered by grace, we do still stumble.
The good news is that God Our Father will not let us fall.

But He will chastise, correct us.

I sometimes read here where some say we cannot sin anymore, but if this is true, then why did Paul speak to God Our Father chastising us?

Im interested in your take on this.

Also, How inportant being chastised is?

And what we can learn from this?

1st Peter is very strong on this, and the Book of James explains it in detail.
When we sin, we bring judgement upon ourselves. When we judge, we bring judgement upon ourselves.
This judgement is physical, so that even through that fire, we will be redeemed eternal.

many have problems taking/accepting chastisement and correction
from man or God.
many problems spring forth from 'carnal fortresses' built of
fleshly desires, lusts, and various ungodly pleasures.
certainly if one is 'prideful' they don't/won't receive,
instruction, correction, or chastisement.

the hidden chambers of retreat that satan has created and made so
available to hide in, they are so well fortified and insulated that
the hard hearted are unable to hear our Lord Jesus knocking, therefore
many become oblivious to correction.

LEVITICUS 26:18.

I had a little trouble with first Peter because he was so firm, but in time, I saw not judgement or hardness, but a deep rooted love in Jesus filled with the desire for salvation for all of us.

Too often satan wants us to see all as judgment, rather than the freedom that God has set before us in Jesus, bringing the peace of rightousness that surpasses all understanding.

When I first read your posting, I was hesitant because of the judgement posted and had concern for those who might see only that.
But if we look to revelations in humility, we see that God is fighting for us, that all is not just about destroying evil, but that all is happening so the hardest of heart might humble it's self and recieive the truth of salvation in Jesus.
God Our Father's desire is for us.

If we can be mindful of Jesus's words, "that God does not give as the world gives."
For when we do recieve this, not looking to our own understanding, it is then, that the fullness of God's love and understanding of it, is known.

I just wanted to add this, as I know many are uncomfortable when it comes to speaking to correction.
Remember, Jesus said, I do not come to condemn the world, but to save it.

You see, the name satan, also means to accuse, condemn.

So when we recieive correction from God, chastisement, it is not about condemnation, it is simply God Our Father wanting to correct us, make sure our step stays on the right path, for His loves desires this for us all in Jesus.
For it is not about our not being good enough, or failing, as this is already covered, bought and overcome for us in Jesus.
It is all about the love of God Our Father for His child, you, me all who have found salvation in Jesus.
God just wants us to know His love, and realise His correction, is all about this great love He has for us.
Just as a parent who loves their child will correct the child they love, so does God Our Father correct us in love.

I don't look at chastisement as punishment, God corrects those He loves. If we're headed the wrong direction and God knocks us down, He's trying to lead us down a righteous path. Trial and error are often a means of spiritual growth and these test draw us closer to God, even though it may not seem so at the time. jmo

I agree, but to chastise, one could say chastise is to correctivly punish, humble maby?
I wonder if another here has a better or more literal refrance to the word chastise as used in this scripture?
It would be interesting to find out.

My dad never really disciplined me, this led to a lack of identity in myself - showed my dad loved himself more than me, wasn't willing to do the hard thing of discipline

God' Discipline is proof of His love, people don't want to talk about it, but then act like they doubt God's love for them

God's discipline doesn't feel great, but He's trying to transform our character and conduct - because of His love

His love is a changing love

Not having good discipline from my father - I don't respond the best ways to God's Discipline, but Hebrew's 12 outlines how to get through what God is trying to teach you - make straight path's for your feet, life your drooping spirit and get to God and Get His grace and strength

It's an amazing reality in the lives of believers - the Discipline of the Lord - you can't just do what you want to do

It seems, when all is going well, it's easy to slip into a mode of living this life, slipping into a more worldly focus. One can become not as vigilant of the things of God, while enjoying His worldly "blessings," which a pagan can also do. In my life, there's nothing that can awaken one more to seeking the Lord than difficulty, have an issue of mortal sort of difficulty that touches you or yours, and suddenly one realizes what it means to "pray without ceasing" and consider just how important and edifying a lot of our worldly, carnal foolishness is, pursuits where the name of the Lord is never mentioned, how temporal and deceptive this world is, how eternity and the Lord Jesus are, bottom line, the only true focus. This is something I've found driven home in adversity, and have come out of adversities a better Christian. Also, it's a difficult lesson to get to where one can have the great faith of Job, easier said than done that, thought He slay me, yet will I trust Him, but this a place of mature faith to just trust and believe in the Lord, because He is worthy, and not lean on our own understandings. To be frank, there's much immaturity in this sense in these forums, much said that puts God on trial in some topics, when the essence of faith is to trust Him, His love, His righteousness, because He is eternal, unchanging: He is most worthy of trust, whether we understand or not. Nothing more needs to be proven by the Lord, that He came to us and died horribly for our sins, to offer us grace and eternal life, at His expense, and such love stops my mouth, Holy, Holy, Holy. Learning some degree of humility can't hurt, and sometimes we need to be knocked upside the head, as long as this lesson remains unlearned.

Interesting, the opposite sides of how our father's treated us can effect our relationship with God and His correction.
For you there was no disapline.
For me, the disapline was abusive, filled with terror and emotional torment.

At first, I too was uncomfortable with God Our Fathers disapline, like you said it can be unpleasant.
But do know, as I have come to know in His love, that God Our Father's chastisement is filled with so much more, and in time you will see this, for it is firm, true, compleat,provides, and filled with kindness, gentleness, delight, humor and love.
I trully believe only the perfect love of God our Father can do this, and it is amazing to know.

For in Jesus, God Our Father removes the flesh from our eyes, ears and soul, so we may not just live in His Spirit, but see, hear and grow to maturity in His Spirit.
Trully, all is to the glory of God!
