It's an interesting question. God is not a respecter of persons, but does this speak more to equal justice, the true inner being and God looking to the things of the heart, as opposed to how man judges others on phony things, the likes of appearance, things of the flesh? It's inescapable our Lord Jesus had a special love of John. Does this not necessarily mean God may, in fact, love to a lesser degree the rebellious? If so, what is this saying to those who espouse easy believism or some universality to the love of God? If David was a man after God's own heart, doesn't this mean there are those less after His own heart? Is it wrong or error to love your own child, more than the neighbor's brat down the street? Not some doctrinal statement, just musing, okay?
