Christians nowadays neglect God's principles in determining the lifetime partner God is preparing for them. They often use the standards of the world in seeking for their prince charming, having forgotten 2 Corinthians 6:14 as basis. As a result many suffers unsuccessful and miserable marriages as consequences of disobeying God's teachings.
Therefore, this is to remind all of us that God doesn't want us to suffer in our marriage life, that's why He provides standards for His children through the Bible on how to rightfully seek a future spouse. He also gave us the privilege to ask guidance and wisdom to discern through prayer. In fact, we can be specific with the qualities of a spouse we long to be with in the future. But there are also some factors we must consider so that we can be certain that our waiting is not in vain. First, when we ask for the specific qualities, we must take into consideration if we are worthy with the kind of partner we're looking for (in order to be realistic). If we found ourselves undeserved, then that's the time we must develop ourselves to be fitted for them, by the grace of God. Next, as children of God, first on our list is "he or she must be a growing Christian", note of the word "growing", this means he or she is not only a Sunday church goer but also an active member of the church of God, involving in the ministry. Lastly, King Solomon in Ecclesiastes 3:1 tells us, " To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven". Lets avoid shortcuts, let us put everything into its proper order. Marriage is not a thing we should rush, we have all the time to prepare and be ready for the responsibilities attached on it. And more importantly, let us allow God's plans take over our lives' etinerary.
Now it all depends on us on how we use the privileges God has given us - the BIBLE to determine God's principles, the PRAYER to ask God's guidance and discernment, and TIME, how we make use of it in preparing for the right time.
