Couple of bands from my hometown....a lot came out of Sacramento area in 90's and early 00s: Deftones and Papa Roach too from came from here. Oleander band name totally makes sense since there are about a million oleander bushes EVERYwhere in Sacramento....almost every yard has at least one or 2...lol

Fun fact. The singer and another member of this band were originally in a Christian band called Rage of Angels. When their album was released it blew up in Christian rock/metal circles, but the band didn't last much longer.
They said the industry was so bad and they were so mistreated they decided to break up and went off into secular bands.
No mention if it affected their faith.

Awesome bit of rock "trivia." I put it in quotations because I do not consider knowing that to be 'trivial.' I always leaned towards the songs that seem to have the underlying spirit of love behind the lyrics and believe there's a strong argument it manifests from an underlying faith in the true Original source, whether consciously or subconscious. There are a million love songs but few performed with 'real love' (won't somebody shoooo(h)ow me, real love, isn't anyyone truuue anymore?!... real love!....re(h)eal luuuohovve...-another good Firehouse song).

Other cool stuff
Many know the guitarist of Korn got saved many years ago. He even wrote a book about his experiences. Lesser known is the bassist also got saved, later on.
Alice Cooper was raised Christian by a minister. He believed all through his fame he still was a Christian, but it wasn't till watching a Billy Graham Crusade on TV, in the 90s, he realized how far he had fallen away. He rededicated his life to God that night.
Peter Sandoval, Amazing drummer of the openly satanic band Morbid Angel (from the 90s) got saved years later, after the band broke up. I have seen video interviews of him confirming this and openly discussing his faith.
Ones I've not confirmed, but have heard...
Peter Criss of Kiss (cat faced drummer) is purported to be a Christian.
Stephen Harris, bassist of Iron Maiden is supposedly a Christian.
There were claims Tom Araya, bassist and vocalist of Slayer, states to be Catholic, but I've heard his religious views in a video interview and they did not really line up with his claims. I wonder if, coming from a Hispanic background, he just sticks to that line as many of them do. But he's of Chilean descent so not sure if that's as common with them. His views sound more self stylized than Catholic.
Kirk Windstein of Crowbar began making claims of being born again, and even reflecting spiritual beliefs in his lyrics, but videos I've seen of him don't support this. I suspect it may have started out true, but he never sought out to be taught, so he just continued many behaviors under the belief he was saved. A pity he never sought out a church or anyone to learn from.

I've heard Ronnie James Dio of Dio, which letters were styled to spell "devil" when turned upside down converted to Christianity and wrong a song, The King is Coming, or something like that, I think. I looked up Sammy Hagar, wondering about his "Three Lock Box" lyrics, and found an excerpt from an interview with Doug Van Pelt from Van Pelt's book Rock Stars on God: 20 Artists Speak Their Mind About Faith (Relevant Books, 2004).
While Hagar believes that Jesus Christ was "one of the greatest men that ever walked the earth," he doesn't get that He is the only Way but that He a model of the way of being in touch with God, "And He made it pretty easy on us...," suggesting that is by following the Ten Commandments that "are so simple...Anybody in their right mind could live by those rules..." His reply to the question about Jesus Himself claiming to be the only way was, "I think it's just been misinterpreted and taken out of context. I really interpret that as Christ saying..." and then he elaborates his thoughts on it, with no hint of scriptural support. Anyway, I suppose that he is, indeed, a "Hagar," he would represent Sinai as much as she does.

Van Pelt himself is shady, though. When Kings X bassist/vocalist Doug Pinnick came out as homosexual, it was quite the surprise. Then it turns out Van Pelt had known for 2 years and didn't publish it. And not only that, continued pushing the band in Christian circles.
Pinnick last I saw him, had a gay pride sticker on his bass and a belt buckle with a one point up pentagram.
As well his band mates stuck around through all this.
So Van Pelt has no room to talk about anyone else.

I do suppose that it's just as problematic judging fruit these days as it was in the beginning and so I've resigned to leave that to Christ the most qualified, and refrain from promoting any specific person or band. I only recommend particular songs by a variety of artists, although that may also qualify as judging fruit. For example, personally, I found the Newsboys' Love Liberty Disco album and loved it but haven't really kept up with any subsequent work. And there are other works, by other artists, that I've encountered "on purpose" I believe were "God winks" toward me for following the promptings of the Spirit and "throwing lyrics out there" into the web and leaving them for providence. Those are the 'best' songs to me, of course, since they display my undeniable 'brain children' of an otherwise anonymous mother spared from the scrutiny of the industry which I certainly lack the fortitude to endure.
