Gospel blues, sometimes called holy blues. Sounds like an oxymoron, right? While much of the original blues is very worldly, there was a lot of it that was really deep, rich Gospel music in the flavor of David's psalms. They come from hardships, pain, crying out to God, trying to understand, and ultimately letting go and trusting in Him. Real blues, is like having a consoling friend that understands. You don't need to explain, they get it, been there, done that. There's a comfort in that.

If you remember, the rock band Led Zeppelin took the gospel songs "Nobodies Fault But Mine", and "in My Time Of Dying", and altered them a bit to make them worldly, but the originals are still very good.

The Rolling Stones covered this song in 1969. It was part of their live set for a while and you can hear it on their live album from 1969 called "Get Your Ya-ya's out".

The Parodical Son.

A song originally written by Reverend Robert Wilkins, first recorded in 1929. The original 1929 secular version of the song was titled "That's no way to get along", later changed to the gospel version and renamed the "Parodical Son". The 1929 secular version focused on tough times and bad treatment by women, while the later adaptation turned the melody into the Biblical parable of the Prodigal Son. Wilkins stopped playing secular blues in 1936 after converting to Christianity and becoming a pastor in the Church of God in Christ.

Been around since the 70's, as Resurrection Band.
